Chef @carrienaha, @kostalichicago, on what she loves about Chicago: “Everything. It’s the most vibrant, accessible, urban city in America, if not the world. I love the architecture, public works, museums, and I love that we have a zoo right in the middle of the city. We’re a scrappy city with a strong mayor. Plus, we are one of the greatest restaurant cities in the world.” 📸 @paulstrabbing

I headed over to New Lane Hawker Stalls because @gourmetpigs sent me a photo of a hawker stand whose Char Kway Teow she enjoyed. I couldn’t find the stand she referenced, but I found another that was very delicious!
This one served the char kway teow on a banana leaf, and I had the option of either chicken or duck egg to be mixed in with my noodles. I chose duck egg (as pictured here) and it was yummy yummy yummy. Also, look at the size of those prawns!! 😍

Char Kway Teow is probably one of Penang’s most famous dishes. Most hawker stalls had a charcoal wok running for the char kway teow, and it was all about finding the best.
I went to Siam Road Char Koay Teow, and as soon as I saw the man making the noodles over the large wok, I knew I’d love this dish. I love flat noodles, and that is the base of this dish. This particular location used flat glass noodles - my FAVORITE type of noodles. I have difficulty finding this back home in Boston. Note: I waited in line for 45 minutes and was served the second to last serving of Char Kway Teow for the day. I was lucky.
Char Kway Teow takes fresh ingredients of prawn and bean sprouts over the charcoal wok with the rice noodles. I watched as the wok master incorporates water and lard while cooking, alongside a few other spices, eventually cracking the egg to bring it all together, finally topping with crispy pieces of lap cheong (Chinese sausage). If I weren’t feeling so sick the day I went and tried this, I would have seriously gone on a Char Kway Teow crawl in Penang.

Just returned from a short 3 day stay at one of Africa’s most luxurious safari camps - Ivory Lodge on @lionsandsgamereserve.
We were treated to not only beautiful game drives & sightings, but also to a wonderful 5* lodge experience. The rooms were incredible and massive, had our own private butler, a plunge pool with a view over the Sabie River & much more.
If you’re looking for a similar treat then certainly do give this some thought. Best is my company @wildeyesa can put the whole itinerary together for you!
To my wifey @safari_wife thanks for being so amazing, loved spending some much needed time with you. Can’t wait to do it all again soon!
Shumai is my favorite dim sum item, hands down, and the dim sum at Tai Tong Restaurant has some TASTY shumai.
If you don’t know what shumai is, first of all, let’s go get dim sum together when I’m back in Boston, and second, it is a dumpling with thin, unleavened dough wrap. The filling can vary, but the ones I’ve had tend to be with pork and mushroom and some roe on top. SO GOOD, SO JUICY.

“I lost track of time snapping Polaroids and decorating my guestbook entry for future guests—it was the most time I’d ever spent happily cooped up in my hotel room, but also the most energy I’d devoted to considering the feelings of people I didn’t even know. I felt more present and mindful of others as I made my way downstairs to the Kimpton’s complimentary wine hour where silent, screen-lit faces were outnumbered by bubbling conversations that roared with laughter. I may not have connected with anyone in my room, but my room made me more open to connecting with others outside of it.” 💬 Anna Haines, @afarmedia, on @monacochicago’s #StayHuman Suite

At the stalls on Lebuh Kimberly is one stand in front of Restoran Kimberly that makes this dish: duck kway chap. For 7.5 RM ($1.81), I got this small bowl of incredibly flavorful broth. The depth of flavor incorporated duck and pork, and I think soy sauce, maybe some anise - there was an underlying spice and kick to it.
Beneath the layers of duck and innards, you’ll find rolls of flat rice noodles waiting like buried treasure to be found. I was lucky I didn’t have to wait long for this bowl.

Creating a blend for a client is like creating a magic potion.
After the initial consultation, I gain a deeper insight as to what oils will benefit the client.
For example, they may present with tension, but listening to what they are telling me, while at the same time observing their body language will often tell a very different story.
The client may physically feel the pain of their tension, yet be emotionally & mentally switched off as to how the pain really affects their day to day life.
It's at this precise moment, that I can sense what oils will be needed in order for the treatment to be beneficial for the client, not only on a physical level, but more importantly on a spiritual level also.
When the oils have been synergistically blended with the correct carrier oil, I gently swirl them around & pour a bit into the palms of my hand, the oils are at their most energetic at this point & you can't help but have a moment's meditation when you inhale them deeply.
Already, the treatment has began without my hands even making contact with the client. The energy in the treatment room is so powerful, it's difficult to explain what it's like, other than to say you never feel alone while doing a treatment, you can see the most vivid of colours, hear the preciousness of the affirmations that are being softly being whispered by spirit & your hands are being constantly guided by the most powerful of energy's.
I have no idea where all of this comes from, I just accept it as being an important part of the treatment, & believe this is the beginning of the healing process that the body has asked for on a deep sub concious level.
The client will often feel drained & emotional after a treatment, they often have very little idea just how much energy they use while laying still on a massage couch.
The secret power of healing begins the second the top is taken off the essential oils, & blended to evoke memories & magic.
Curry mee from the Chulia Street Night Hawker Stalls. When I ordered this, an auntie yelled at me when I tried to sit at a table and order a drink from her. She wanted me to move tables, so I ended up sitting at a table with a man who was just trying to enjoy his curry mee. Oops.
This had two different types of noodles, a prawn, some oysters, tofu, and fish ball. It was 4.5 RM for the bowl!

Just some good ol’ laksa from Yee Fung Laksa on Gaya Street at 6:30 am. It wasn’t as thick for the gravy as I was expected the laksa to be, and was more of a curry consistency, but still tasty. Tasted like a coconut curry broth with tofu, egg, prawn, chicken.

1) Jess and I booked a quick trip to NYC today!! No place does the holidays quite like New York does.
2) 20s are weird in a lot of ways, but the absolute best so far. Taking last minute, quick trips all over the world won’t last long, but we’ll take it while we’ve got it.
3) supposedly @rolfsny gets even MORE festive during December. I’m here for it. (pic taken last November)
It was honestly a whirlwind traveling the last few days to get to Kota Kinabalu. As soon as I arrived, @derrickteh picked me up at the airport and dropped me off at my Airbnb. The room was still being cleaned, so I left my bags in my room and walked over to the Imago mall. I forgot to bring my sunglasses, so I went to Aldo and bought a cheap pair. I also forgot to bring my little coin purse for my local currency (as opposed to bringing my passport wallet out every time I need to pay). Aldo had a buy two accessories, get one free deal, so in total for three accessories (earrings, sunglasses, coin purse), I paid at the Imago mall 75 RM ($18 USD). So cheap!
I was so hungry at this point because all I had been eating was plane food or a few bites at the airport between my BOS-IST flight, layover in Istanbul, IST-SGN, SGN-KL, and KL-KK. TIRING. I went to Madam Kwan’s across the hall from Aldo in the mall because low effort, I got a notification that my Airbnb room was ready, and I was a five minute walk from my homestay. I wanted something comforting, and rice, even at home, is comforting to me (because I don’t eat it often). I got this dish of salted fish fried rice - the salted fish was so fresh! I eat this dish sometimes at home at places in Chinatown, but this salted fish was not dried out the way it is at home (probably from the import into the US). It was so simple, and so tasty. Exactly what I needed after long haul flights.

@themariapinto’s secret weapon: “I first met Charles in NYC in 1994. He came to my hotel to do my hair as I was making an important presentation at Bergdorf Goodman. Since then, Charles has been part of every photo shoot for the collections I create and the only person I let cut my hair. He used to wear this belt with a buckle that had the word TRUST. He genuinely gets all my trust when it comes to the hair that will further tell the story within each of my collections as well as always making me look and feel terrific.” 💬 Maria Pinto

Sabah, there is so much delicious seafood here. I may or may not have been stabbed by one of the crab claws and feeling the sting from the cut in my finger today, but worth every bite. Working for my food never tasted so good.
Thank you for having me for this family meal, @derrickteh and @katelynzoee!

📍Greenwood’s English Tearoom
Oh hot dayum, this eggs benny is SERIOUSLY my jam. Never before have I encountered an egg dish as amazing curated and beautifully plated as this one served up by @greenwoods_tearoom.
For those who have been following along, I’ve been hanging out in the beautiful Dutch capital of Amsterdam for the last couple of days. Home to dance/EDM music, raw herring, and stroopwafel, this city has been nothing short of surprising.
Our breakfast at this bustling English tearoom (the first in Amsterdam to be exact) was beyond incredible. Perfectly poached gooey eggs covered in bright pink beet hollandaise on top a bed of tender smoke salmon and crispy latke cakes.
You will never be able to eat eggs any other way ever again. The game has been changed.

My skin routine is always such a ritual for me, I like to think of it as an at home spa experience that I create. I love incorporating aromatherapy and essentials oils into my skincare. @clarinsaus has a beautiful Aromaphytocare Range. The Relax Treatment Oil is one of my favourites to use on my body as it infuses the skin with natural benefits and is absorbed instantly. I’d love to hear your skincare rituals. ✨ @clarinsaus#ClarinsAus#Aromaphytocare#clarinspartner

#ad I recently had the opportunity to attend an amazing weekend enjoying @testkitchen’s #atkeats events thanks to @peteandgerrys. The weekend started with a Chef’s Table dinner, followed by the America’s Test Kitchen’s 20th Anniversary party, and of course the Boston EATS event itself, with so much food to indulge in.
Throughout the weekend, I was able to explore various ways Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs can be used, such as in a delicious tart lemon dessert, a cocktail, and of course, a meringue. Keep an eye out for Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs and let me know how you use them! And don’t forget to tune into America’s Test Kitchen on PBS.

While I looooove the idea of getting “lost” in nature - actually being LOST in nature sounds completely terrifying. 🍃😬 And let’s be honest, the only time I’ll even put up with being terrified is if I’m on my couch with a bowl of popcorn in hand watching a thrilling movie. 🍿 @Netflix' latest thriller Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock, hits TV screens this week!! I was able to see a sneak peek of this action-packed movie early and it’s not to be missed! 🎥
The film is about a strong-willed mother and her children trying to survive when there’s a force out there in the world that kills you just by looking at it. 🙈 So throughout the movie everyone is blindfolded while they’re trekking through the wilderness to try & find a potential safe haven.🌲(It sure made me look back on my recent outdoorsy adventures with my little one in a different light!) Have you seen @BirdBoxMovie yet?! #BirdBox#Netflix#Netflixpartner#ad#outdoorsy#hiking#movienight

صباح البياض لكل القلوب النقية ...... انتم بهجة الصباح ...... good morning beautiful white hearts .
الصورة من منطقة باموكال / قلعة القطن التركية..... مكان ساحر ..... سبحان الخالق .....
📷photo at Pamukkale/turkey. Listed under UNESCO and must see places before you die .
Pamukkale has been made eternally famous by the gleaming white calcite travertines (terraces) overrunning with warm, mineral-rich waters on the mountain above the village – the so-called ‘Cotton Castle' (pamuk means 'cotton' in Turkish). Just above the travertines lies Hierapolis, once a Roman and Byzantine spa city, which has considerable ruins and a museum.
