In the 1490s, the first Spanish #conquistadors set foot on the clear aquamarine shores of this isle called #Borinquen by the #Taino (Arawako) people, peaceful inhabitants that live in #harmony with their environment, they only take what they need, fishing & giving thanks to each other& the boundless generosity of nature as theyplant & harvest fruit for their families, dance, and praise their merciful gods, the sun and all the warmth & beauty it brings to their sacred home.Across the #water on ships approach SpanishConquistadors that scan the land.More sophisticated technologically than the #Arawak people, yet nowhere near as socially advanced, their hearts are set on gold.So it is not to our surprise that no sooner do the #Españoles make acquaintance do they rain down hostilities, claiming the land as theirs, relocating the natives, dubbing the island #Puerto Rico (Rich Port)& forcing them to search rivers for #gold , eventuallycolonizing and destroying their culture. In 1513 They introduce the labor of African slaves, who are in fact just as #human as their oppressors. Time goes by as cities, forts &castles are built on the backs of slaves,& the #Spanish flag flies over it all.1600s-1700s Catholism, Christianity and coffee have already been introduced &though white criollos and black slaves have now integrated into the population, a large percentage still have Arawakan blood ,though most have conformed to the colonizers religion.Painters, politicians & inventors make names for themselves like #Samuel Morse who sent the first telegraph from a small town called #Arroyo in the south coast of the island of PR, which is so different from Spain. A unique sense of patriotism emerges.in 1812 the first Puerto Rican constitution is written.Laws are inforced but the winds are changing once again& #revolution is in the air.A #patriotic rebel-boss named Manuel Rojas has kindled a spark in the town of Lares, the insurrection is planned, which leads to a cornerstone in history that eventually makes way #puertorican Independance from Spain. The flag of Lares was sewed by patriot #marianabracetti & raised as a symbol of #freedom that united races. Sep. 23, 1868 the #gritodelares

I was once told, get clear on your dreams and set goals, yearly, monthly, weekly, daily. When life hits, remember your dreams, hit your goals and stay on course. From my personal experiences When everything seems to be falling apart, take a step back and analyze what’s going on. It’s perspective, process, speak to a mentor, read the right books, surround yourself with likeminded individuals. Stay Consistent in your work, stay hungry every day you wake up, stay humble in your victories and stay Relentless regardless of what life throws at you because when the sun goes down I recommend you stay grateful.

For all of those who don't know the girl on the right side is Priyanka Reddy, A twenty-six years old veterinarian from Hyderabad and On the left side of the picture is her burnt dead body.
What did she do to deserve it? She agreed to take help from some random strangers, Not even agreed, If we trust the news, They didn't let her go and get help at someplace else. So to be precise, They punctured her scootie, offered to help her, forced her to accept the help, abducted her, gang-raped her and then burnt her body in order to destroy evidence.
Police have arrested the main accuse Mohamad Pasha based on a CCTV footage. Waiting to see if our so-called celebrities make a video for her or not. Waiting to see what the so-called intellectuals who think girl's dress is the reason behind rape cases have to say about this.
How harsh will this world get to Women? What else is left to see? How to even prevent these things from happening? are the questions we'll probably never get an answer of.
Still, Just a request to all the girls out there, Since some are literally dominated by their lust and the demon inside them, Start seeking the help of Police if anything like this happens. Don't trust strangers in deserted areas. Some men are demons, Some men are monsters, Some of them will judge and blame you for it, but some will be there standing beside you in this fight.
I don't have more words, Still My heart goes out to her family. Nobody deserves what happened with her. We have seen it all. Patience have crossed its limit. Faith have crossed its limit. Silence have crossed its limit. It's time for the government to take some serious action against it. Also, If God do exist, It's time for him to act as well. We can't just stay calm and see this world turning into hell for Women everyday.
Rip Priyanka Reddy, We didn't just lose, We lost all the faith in humanity.

The famous Peruvian artist in San Blas, Cusco who combines Catholic and Peruvian iconography. Catholic saints with llama necks. There is much of this type of fusion, in the art and architecture in Peru. Influences of the conquered and the conqueror. #conquistadors#peruvianart#art#sanblas#cusco#peru#qosqo

In the XVI Century there was an European legend of 'El Dorado' a land or City of Gold, hidden in the New World. In the XIX people thought this City was lost in the Amazon jungle.
Inspired by this legend, I created my very own Gold Fish to swim forever in the minds of legend believers.
This piece was awarded the 2009
Best Creative Goldwork Prize at the Royal School of Needlework, sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Gold & Silver Wyre Drawers.
Since I was young this carved post has stood at my bank. It represents the #conquistadors who settled this part of the world after traveling from Spain. I just love the carving. #centinelbankoftaos in the back behind the bank tellers are quilts made by the Taos Quilters. #taos#taosnewmexico
Paddington Bear is actually a Peruvian Bear. This statue was I think presented to Peru by the British High Council to affirm the peaceful relationship between the two countries. After all Peru is one of the few countries Britain didn't invade. The Spanish got there first I guess. #conquistadors#paddingtonbear#lima#peru#miraflores
