Benjamin handed me his canvas and a pencil. “Sit down, boy”. He told me to spell ‘cat’, and then ‘dog’. Without giving too much thought, I wrote the words down carefully in a corner away from where he had been drawing.
I looked up feeling puzzled, and his eyes met mine with a look of disappointment. “Look here son, we got two ears and one mouth for a reason. I didn’t tell you to write anything down. I told you to spell them for me.” The age old trick. I couldn’t help but laugh at myself. Benjamin had a certain uncle-like charm to him, often flashing his white teeth after a clever, yet wise remark. His words flowed passionately from his heart. His eyes shined with conviction.
We spoke for a time, and I got the impression that many people would likely ignore someone like him. These same people would also likely ignore any attempts from the world at penetrating their established notions of how life should be. He had much that he wished to share, particularly on the subjects of adversity and joy, and from a perspective I had very little understanding of. Because I believe the very essence of both these human experiences are felt in the same way by every person, the wisdom that he spoke felt as true to me as the fact of my own birth.
It is easy to fall into the trap of believing that we know more about reality than others, or that there is nothing new to learn with every single encounter. We cling in desperation to our own knowledge, and in an attempt to please our egos we speak more than listen. Act more than observe.
The inner obnoxious teen in me was silenced. Above all, he shared the importance of cherishing life. Let us remember this daily.
The farewell to autumn feels especially hard this year. It was such a gorgeous season.

My sewing journey has really just been me teaching myself through trial and error (with the help of Youtube University thank you @coolirpa and @withwendy lol) so I'm pretty excited to see my skill level now in comparison to what it was. 😅
Btw by no means is it perfect. There is so much I would do differently and I actually made this a while ago but got so side tracked I never finished the straps!
"The Gallery of Light" 🌅
One of my absolute favorite local spots to shoot at here on Vancouver Island. These sea caverns situated along the coastline give some of the most unique compositions for landscape photographs out of anywhere I've been to. I remember stumbling across these by accident earlier this year and being blown away by how many have been here all along without my knowledge. Another thing that is really cool about them, when the sunlight hits the caves just moments before sunset, the caves are lit up with this rich warm color. It's just a perfect spot to shoot at sunset.

Somewhere deep in the highlands in Iceland you can find spots like this. Hidden diamonds that look so unreal that you have to see them with your own eyes to believe that they are real!
