I was so happy to make a new friend yesterday. When that girl had asked us if she could come along on the walk with us, I wasn’t quite sure what would happen after those several awkward moments. But then my human teen started to actually speak to her, so I did it! I helped him get over his fear!
Today started out as a dreary day- the rain was incessantly coming down with no end in sight. I wasn’t sure when we would be able to go for a walk. Everybody was gone, except for me and my human mom. She seemed to be anxious and tense throughout the whole morning, so I kept putting my head on her knee; it always seemed to make her smile when she could pet me and massage my ears. Whenever she would look down and start to rub her head with her hands, I’d put my paw on her leg to show her that I see her and that I love her. I stood by the door and stared, wagging my tail. I listened intently as I heard her walking around. What is she doing? Now what is she doing? What about now? Now? And then suddenly the closet door opened and shut. She’s getting her umbrella- hooray! She threw on her flip-flops and attached my leash, “Ok, buddy, let’s go for our walk now- before it starts to rain again!” I barked a “heck yeah” back at her, and we were on our way.
About halfway around the neighborhood, I started to feel a few drops on my head, but I didn’t care. My human mom uttered, “Uh oh. Come on, Otis, let’s cut through here!” And seconds later, it started to pour. The umbrella was not holding up well either. The wind was too strong, and now the rain was coming at us. We had just made it through most of the backyards when I could finally see our deck and sliding back door. All I thought about was getting my mom inside, so I decided to take off running. Looking back now, I realize I should have warned her. I guess she wasn’t thinking the same thing I was, and since her grasp was so tight on the leash, she yelled out, tripped a little, and then completely lost her balance . . .
