“It takes so much strength to raise girls in a society where people think it's unfortunate that I have ended up with "two girls in one go". My Grandfather, the head of our family always made sure us girls were just as important as the boys but my father never accepted his daughters - he wanted a son. So whilst I was nurtured to be a strong independent woman by my mother and her family, there was always this doubt that I wasn’t good enough because I was a girl. My father passed away in March and his biggest regret in the end was not being there for his children. Now my daughters are here I can only express what a blessing it is to have not one but two girls.
Times are changing and it is thanks to projects like Pink Ladoo which raises awareness that girls are not inferior to boys. A baby, be it girl or boy is a blessing and a price will always be paid by those that believe girls are not as important as boys. I am proud to be raising girls. Whilst these archaic notions still exist I must also state that it takes a stronger man to stand up and be the best father these girls could ask for. I am one of lucky ones to have the support of a man who is a proud father to our twin daughters. Just like my Grandfather I have a husband who dedicates every spare moment in nurturing his daughters and can only hope that others learn from the way he is with his girls.
I know my daughters will not grow up feeling they weren't good enough for their father.
It’s because of everything I know and everything I’ve been through that it was important to me that we we gave out Pink Ladoo to celebrate my daughters’ births. They are no less than boys and we wanted them to be surrounded by that energy from birth.”
At the Pink Ladoo Project we set out to create a new tradition that empowers women and girls and raises their value from birth. For us, it's not just a Pink Ladoo but the symbol of a protest against south Asian gender biased traditions and norms.
The success of our campaign depends on the number of people we reach so tweet tag share discuss. Spread the word. #pinkladoo#babygirl#feminism#girlsrule#girlpower#daddysgirl#babydaddy#ladoo#southasianwomen
