Our Offense, Overall.... Despite our struggles on gaining yards in passing (220.6 average per game with a total 23 touchdowns, longest was a 60-yard pass) and in rushing (200 average per game / 5.2 yards per attempt with a total 20 touchdowns, longest was a 62-yard run), our offense is proving strong in other categories:
Offensive line has only allowed 9 sacks all season for a loss of 64 yards, which ranks best among all Power5 conferences & 3rd overall in FBS (AFA 4 sacks, -22 yards, Buffalo 8 sacks, -59 yards). Our quarterbacks have thrown a total of 4 interceptions (one by Stetson Bennett & Jake Fromm threw three, all of which came in the S. Carolina game), only Ohio State (1), Utah (2), ULL (3), Kent (2), & GA Southern (0) have thrown fewer interceptions over the course of the regular season.
We aren't lighting up many defenses (for exceptions see vs Georgia Tech 😁), but we're not shooting ourselves in the foot as badly as most teams, either. We're doing just enough, week in & week out, & have rarely trailed at any point all season (I think in only two games: Notre Dame & S. Carolina). I'm not making excuses nor naive to think we'll win a National Championship playing in post-season the same way we've played regular season, but I truly believe we've been holding back, not taking those chances against teams Coach Smart has deemed manageable. Now it's time to unleash the DAWGS & let'em fight for every bite, because they're hungry, we're in Championship mode now, & it is time to eat.
For the last three seasons, the number 1 has been the GEORGIA BULLDOGS' favorite number.
In 2017, 2018, & 2019 they have gone 11-1 in the regular season, even debuting as #1 in the 2017 CFP poll. For the last three years, they have won their division and competed for the SEC Championship going 1-1, their 3rd conference championship game looming against LSU this Saturday. In the last three seasons, GEORGIA has been the only constant in the SEC Championship game, facing a different opponent each year (2017-auburn, 2018-alabama, 2019-lsu).
This is Kirby Smart's 4th year as head coach & he has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, recruiting top-talent from the state as well as across the country. The one thing he has yet to do is bring us a National Championship.
Next week's SEC Title game is a quarter-final of the playoff, winner advances to the semi-final, & then a chance to bring home a National Championship to Athens will be within reach for this season.
I have hope.
