With the proliferation of the internet and social media, the business climate has changed for entrepreneurs starting their own company. With the emergence of various brands across a number of industries, the competition is fierce!
While major brands like Coca-Cola can execute major brand awareness campaigns, it doesn’t mean small brands can’t set themselves apart in their own market. In fact, the one thing that can help a small brand is its small size!
After all, small brands have the distinct advantage of being in tuned with their customer. This is precisely what keeps customers coming back.
And yes, while we may see and hear about the big brands everywhere, it’s small business that’s growing our jobs.
Small brands cannot rely on economies of scale or operational efficiencies to do what the big boys do. However, by thinking big, and focusing on the customer, small brands can do big things. •

The Amplify by @aliceturner_design is a hearing device designed to be seen, to feel confident about and to help people experience life to its full potential!
Amplify was created to empower the hearing-impaired demographic with more than just a medical accessory that makes them feel less than others. "In the 60’s, glasses were aids for a disability. Now, glasses have evolved into ‘eyewear’, a fashion statement and an extension of your personality. This shift made me question why the main innovation in hearing aid design is developing technology to make them smaller and more hidden," says the designer on her thought process behind starting the project.
Using bone conduction technology, Amplify provides the users with high quality audio for a more comfortable and wholesome sound experience. This technology enables the device to decode sound waves and convert them into vibrations that can be received directly by the Cochlea so the eardrum is never involved. Amplify essentially becomes your eardrum! Because we live in a smart world, it is important for devices to be integrated ans therefore Amplify features Bluetooth connectivity which helps the user to control smart speakers, smart TV’s, phones and car audio devices.

I finally finished re-doing this pillow and putting it back together! I’m hoping to have the pattern back up on Etsy sometime tomorrow. 🤞🏼Many, many of you kind humans have been following along with this sun pillow pattern situation—I still have at least 50 DMs that I haven’t been able to answer yet, all of them sweet and supportive. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s a recap and how I’m currently feeling about it. I made a lovely sun punch needle pattern that lots of people loved, but a handful of people thought was too reminiscent of the Japanese imperialist rising sun flag (you can google it). I want to be really clear here—I hadn’t knowingly seen that flag and did not know its history. I also didn’t/don’t think that my pillow looked like it enough to warrant changing it. So now you might be asking why I bothered changing it then. The answer is that I chose to change it, reluctantly (I loved the original, have really limited creative work time, and really struggled to want to spend a ton of it recreating something I had mentally moved on from), because I am personally working on listening to others. I’m working on listening to the voices of minorities, to stories that are not based in my own experience. I’m working to create a space in my home, my community, and in this virtual space where people feel heard, feel important, and feel joy, even if I don’t necessarily share their viewpoint.
I originally created this sun pillow to bring joy and happiness. If it was causing some people to feel the opposite of that, I knew I needed to do the hard thing and try to adjust it.
Now, that was easier said than done. I agonized all week about how to do it, tried out a bunch of things, and really tried to stay true to my original vision, while making it different enough to no longer have the negative association for some. As I worked through it, I realized it was important to me to have rays that were interrupted instead of solid, as my way of making space for voices other than my own and space for listening to narratives that I haven’t heard before. I hope that those who loved the original will also find joy in this one. Thanks for the support friends!
