When you see a cruiser with lights on doing a traffic stop, we are REQUIRED BY LAW TO MOVE OVER. We wore different uniforms but you were a brother in blue. My heart felt condolences to your family, friends and RCMP colleagues.

Bear with my PSA. “Distracted driving” hit home yesterday when, during a very normal bike commute on a street I’ve ridden down 100 times, I got hit by a car - because the driver ran a red light.
I was extremely fortunate in that 1) Had this happened even one second earlier, she would’ve run directly into me instead of me smashing into the side of her car; 2) There were two wonderful Samaritans who rushed to check on my injuries and help me and the bike get off the street (and photographed the vehicle); 3) I somehow walked away with only a cut on my knee and some bad bruising. Kind of miraculous.
Yes, she stopped, but she didn’t even know the light had been red (for a while). Don’t feel sorry for me, just focus on your *#!% driving. There are actually serious consequences when you don’t. I’m fine THIS time but I really don’t want to repeat that experience. Kthxbye. ...
P.S. Am I going to stop riding now? Of course not. But you can bet I’m going to be a little bit nervous those first few days back on the bike, after I get it inspected. #distracteddriving#bikesafely#sharetheroad#toocloseforcomfort

Potholes can be avoided with a reduction in your speed - Take care out there - we know #ItHappens - But you can avoid #BadRoads
Remember - You should use caution when approaching puddles of water as they could really be potholes in hiding. If you can’t avoid hitting a pothole, slow down before you hit it and firmly grip the wheel to help avoid losing control of your vehicle. If you do, we're here to assist!

Uber and Lyft Safety Tips
Uber and Lyft have grown increasingly popular with the ease of calling for a ride from your cell phone.
Be safe when getting in the vehicle. Remember, your driver is a complete a stranger that you just met. While it’s true that Uber and Lyft drivers go through a background check, it is important to follow these steps every time before getting in your ride:
1. Wait inside the pick-up location until the driver arrives.
2. Always verify the vehicle you are getting into is your intended ride (ask your driver for your name, select a color code to identify your driver, etc.).
3. Never ride in the front seat.
4. Keep transactions business-like.
5. If the driver is not driving safely, stop the ride.
6. Always review your ride and driver.
Both Uber and Lyft pay close attention to its customer’s ratings and comments.
Both Uber and Lyft have a strict review process based on customer ratings and comments and they are reviewed almost immediately upon submission.
It is critical to rate and comment on your experience in order to help protect the safety of yourself and others.

Had a lot of fun getting creative with this standup with my photographer Danny while trying not to peel out of our parking lot! Jokes aside— remember to put your phone down and stay alert when you hit the road. 🚙 🚑 #distracteddriving#reporter#indiana
According to AAA, while you are snapping that 2 second photo, your car has just traveled 176 feet driving 60 mph. This is how long half a football field is. Videos are worse. While you are recording that 6 second video, you have just driven the length of one and a half football fields (528 feet) at 60 mph.⠀

Teens’ inexperience behind the wheel makes them more susceptible to distraction behind the wheel, especially in the light of the smartphone era.
Talk to your teen about safe driving before handing over the keys, and download ping on their phones to ensure their safety. The future is voice. 📢

Did you catch me on @globalbc this evening talking about #distracteddriving ? 📱📞🚘 The latest case from the BC Supreme Court provides further clarification of the law in this area, but the government needs to do more to make this information available to the public and the police.

CAA says that people texting and driving are 8 times as likely to get in a crash.Talking on the phone raises that rate by 4 times. Everyone on the road needs to put their phone down, and law enforcement is a big part of this.
It's interesting to note that Toronto saw a 61% decline in tickets issued for using a hand-held device while driving between 2011 & 2018. That's 14,000 less tickets per year while distracted driving became the number one cause of deadly crashes in Ontario.
this woman decided that the best time and place to pluck her hair is in her car while on the road, with her kid in the passenger seat. it sure is a great way to model good behavior! #trashy#distracteddriving#ohjeez
Mama, I had one too. A never-ending, screeching crying baby (mine was that way in or out of the car 😝). It was hard. And it could be distracting. Gut wrenching. And it made my boobs leak. #truth . .
If your kid cries or gets sick in the car seat, first go see a certified technician. Even if you know you’ve got it right, let’s triple check mmmkkkkk?! Once we know harnessing and installation are spot on, start working through the rest of the list with your pediatrician. .
And, remember, a crying baby is a safe baby. We know that airway is wide open when those cries are bursting out. .
Hang in there. I know it’s tough. I also know it will pass. I also know I freaking hated (and still hate) when people tell me that but it is the truth 🤣🤦♀️.

8 years ago today little did I know my life was about to change completely. *
I got ready to go to a commercial audition, per usual. I had recently filmed an industrial with the same director and production team so I was looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. *
After my audition, I had plans to have a nice dinner later on. One of my consulting clients was hosting myself and a few others that I was looking forward to meeting. *
None of this would ever happen, though. Because as I passed by Hollywood on the 101, a distracted driver caused a 4-car pile up. I was in the 3rd car sandwiched between 2 others. *
Those of you who have been following me on other platforms for years know the aftermath of this. Neck/spinal injury, difficulty breathing/speaking, years spent housebound, estranged from family, 24/7 care, deep suicidal depression, incredible financial burden. And that was just PART of what happened. *
All of this because one person wasn’t paying attention. One person in one moment wasn’t fully focused on their driving. *
I’ve spent the last 8 years of my life recovering. I’ve also spent it missing out - on weddings, funerals, babies being born, as well as following through on my own life and plans the way I had hoped to do. *
I forgive this person and I accept what happened. *
But whenever I see someone not paying 100% attention when they drive, I can’t believe it. Whether in person, or on a webinar, I see it constantly - as I’m sure you do too. *
💗 #DistractedDriving is as detrimental as anything else. When you see it, please consider saying something. And if you find yourself doing it, think of me and these words. *
Remember that nothing is more important than your safety and the safety of others. And while you think you can handle the multi-tasking and whatnot, let me give you another scenario to consider. You never know what someone ELSE could do in any instant where you may need every bit of your reflexes ready. *
Bottom line - IT’S NOT WORTH IT. PERIOD. *
Distracted Driving needs to end. It’s dangerous, unnecessary and completely avoidable. Will you do your part?👇🏻 🚙 #stopdd#enddd

THIS right here is why distracted driving is something I will ALWAYS stand up for. My dad was at a red light when a middle aged women was driving while on her phone and rear ended my dad going 60mph. My dad suffered MANY injuries and spent 2 weeks in the hospital, 2 weeks in a rehab center, months in a wheelchair, then months with a walker. Distracted driving takes the lives of innocent people daily lives lost on the road are lives that are lost under completely avoidable situations. To all the lives lost on roads because of distracted driving WE MISS YOU. WE’RE FIGHTING FOR STRICTURE LAWS, YOUR LOSS WILL NOT BE IN VAIN, and we’re using your story to inspire others to practice safe driving habits too!!!!!!! The day we stop standing up for what’s right is the day we’ve lost ourselves. We have a voice for a reason. Use your voice to inspire change. LOVE ALL OF YOU THAT I KNOW FROM THIS LITTLE PLATFORM!💕💕 #textinganddriving#distracteddriving
