I’ve been wanting to share this story for a while now, but it’s a long one. So on the assumption that you don’t feel like a bit of a read, enjoy this cute picture of my somewhat new, very good boy, adventure-mate, doggo. .
World, meet Supai. As you may have guessed he is named after the place we know and love called Supai, a small community nestled deep in the Grand Canyon that is only accessible by foot, mule, or helicopter. Back in March, we had the luck of scoring two coveted permits to backpack into Havasu canyon and spend 3 nights. It was an amazing trip filled with some of the most incredible beauty I have ever witnessed. On the forth and final day of our time there, we began our journey out of the canyon and were passing through the tiny town center when a white unruly haired dog came bouncing alongside, tongue lolling, and mouth smiling. I gave the friendly pup a few pets on the head and carried along. As I walked on by, he mouthed at my hand, looking to play. I gave in, and tussled him up a bit. On the outskirts of town, we assumed he would turn around, not wanting to leave his territory, but he kept following. Uh oh, we thought, not wanting to lead him somewhere he would get lost, so we decided to try not interact with him. And yet still, he kept following. Other groups of hikers would walk on past, but not once did he stray from our side. Sure, he would trot ahead a few yards but would look back with this goofy look on his face, making sure we were still following. Occasionally he would whisk on back to me and lean his body weight into me while tucking his head between my shins. Whenever a caravan of mules and horses rode by, he would step aside to where we were and wait with us for them to pass. Naturally, I was smitten by his sweet nature and seeming loyalty. Steve and I had been wanting a dog for so long, but kept putting it off due to our busy travel schedule, yet this guy seemed to tick off so many boxes of our ideal pup. As people walked on past they’d exclaim “what a lovely dog you have,” to which I’d reluctantly correct, but not without a strange pride at the idea of him being my companion. .

She asked for a cat. Not going to happen. 🤣
Although we specialise in cats our lovely canine friends are also special to us too! My sitter Magda and I met this little doggo friend on our placement in Santorini. He came to see us often and we gave him lots of food and cuddles ♥️
