Quick reminder as we enter the holiday season that while animals are NOT suitable surprise presents, serious folks looking to give four-legged friends serious homes might consider adopting rather than shopping this holiday season.
Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees from now through January to help make more families complete. Not ready for this level of commitment? That’s ok! They’d be just as happy to see your shining face with donations of clean soft goods, or to register you to volunteer!

Human, you many not stop petting me!!!! TIP OF THE DAY: today’s tip of the day is a bonus tip from yesterday’s tip. Hashtags!! In yesterday’s tip, I explained a bit about hashtags (check it out, then come back here)
So, now that you know a bit about how many hashtags to use, I’m going to give you some tips on picking out your hashtags. When picking hashtags, you want to use hashtags that are relevant to your photo. So, for example, my picture here, I would post hashtags related to my dog, her breed, fall time, etc. .
So how do I pick mine? What I typically do when generating a group of hashtags is I start typing the # sign and then “dog” and I look for hashtags with a high number. I do maybe 10 hashtags including the word dog or puppy such as #dog#dogs#dogsofinstagram#dogstagram#ilovemydog#puppies#puppylove#puppiesofinstagram#doglovers then I do a few for pet: #pet#pets#petsofinstagram#petstagram . Then I use breed specific hashtags such as #berneseofinstagram#berneselove#bernesedaily#bmd after that, I do a few related to our location: #longisland#dogsoflongisland After that, I typically look at the pic and see what else may be relevant. For this one, I would use other things such as : #lightroompresets#fall#coldweather#uggs#coldoutside#instagramtips#animal#cuddles#tuesday#tongueouttuesday
Using all 30 hashtags and varying them slightly for each post will really help others find your pic/Instagram account! I always have a generic copy of my hashtags in my notes section on my phone, and then tweak it accordingly!! .
Try picking a few different categories relevant to your pic and start looking at high numbered hashtags (ones with a few hundred thousand/millions of uses). Include a few hashtags that are smaller and more specific (for us those are the location related ones and some of the breed specific ones). .
Try this new method out today and let me know if it helps! <3 .
