Timber framed window restoration.
The decay and rot this window frame has encountered is a direct result of the cement pointing that has been used around it. You can clearly see where it has trapped the moisture between the timber and brick reveal all around the outer parts of the frame.
The water that is naturally absorbed by the porous soft bricks during a rain shower has not been able to evaporate after the rain because cement mortar is not breathable. After years of repeating this process the moisture content has gradually increased in the timber creating the conditions for rot. Had the frame have been pointed in lime then the moisture could evaporate naturally. Exacerbating the issue is the waterproof/unbreathable oil based paint on the timber. Hairline cracks let water seep under the paint which then gets trapped..
The temptation would be to completely replace the timber frame but that would be a loss of historic value of 100s of years old timber and methods. As you can see from the photos, the least new timber is used to replace the rotten parts using traditional carpentry mortise & tenon joints. More time consuming but remaining true to the historic methods for future custodians of the house to enjoy.
I’m hoping by showing how detrimental even a small amount of cement pointing in the wrong place can be, it’ll help justify the slight difference in expensive when it comes to pointing with lime mortar. .

STOP doing "sit-ups" and START doing "curl-ups". .
...Why? Because all sit-ups do is f*ck your lower back up. .
...How? Because the very thing you think you're training (abs), you're not - you're actually just flexing and extending (I.e. f*cking up) your lower back through momentum, poor form and not *actually* using any of your abs or core muscles. .
Your upper back should never make contact with the floor, keeping tension in your abs and core, and the closer your feet are to your bum, the more impossible they become 😂
Moral of the story? Don't do shit-ups (yes, shit-ups). 😬
It’s really very hard to beat original cast iron radiators. From my experience, the vast majority of the modern reproduction versions are inferior castings which develop leaks and faults in a short space of time. Perhaps count intuitively, the Turkish and Chinese castings are not to the same built to last standard as original English casting from over 100 years ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whilst some manufacturers offer very long warranties, one thing to consider is if/when an issue occurs that it’ll be expensive to get the issue repaired or replaced due to the shear bulk of moving these things! You’ve only got to search online for the issues people have had with new cast iron radiators to understand some of the issues. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s why if the spec is ever for cast iron, I’ll always opt for an original which has been overhauled and refurbished - there is a reason why the originals have been in use for decades with no issues. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The price is comparable for original cast iron versus some of the higher end new reproductions so why compromise?
There is one supplier I use for my original cast iron radiators and the quality and finish is second to none. Happy to put people in touch via DM if it’d be of interest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #doitproperly #myhouseidea #myrenothismonth #periodfeatures #originalfeatures #periodhomesofinsta #myrenothismonth #originalcastiron #castironradiators #victorianradiators#realhomesofinstagram#realhomes#myhousethismonth
TECHNICAL POST: Shower trays Vs Wet Room Tiling.
When you think Shower Trays it’s easy to think of 1990s deep plastic square bowls that you have to step into, but things have evolved! *
There are shower trays now have such a slim profile that they can be fitted as an alternative to a wet room tiling system with the same seamless look. *
The big advantages these trays have is the ease and speed of fitting plus the long term reliability of them (no leaks). Wet room systems by their nature take a lot of preparation and skill to fit properly. The wet room former, once positioned, has to be sealed with a suitable membrane or tanking material and then the tiles are carefully cut to fit. Remember too that grout isn’t waterproof so this tanking is critical to the system not leaking.
Depending on the look you’re going for it’s well worth considering slim trays as an alternative to wet room systems. They’re not cheap but can work out considerably cheaper in installation costs and ongoing maintenance compared to wet room tiling.

Now now.... This one was MINT! Fresh import. TOTALLY STANDARD!🏆🏆👌🏾. Owner was a top bloke👊🏾 had a great chat about Cossies, Rs turbos, Renault 5 turbo: Anyways he only wanted #epicwindscreens to do the work, he was a top spectator who complimented the work attention to detail and cleanliness.
Ever wondered how long it takes to strip a stone tiled roof?.... .
The first job of any major renovation is to control the water, that meant removing and relaying the whole Cotswold Stone Roof over a breathable membrane. .
This was done in the Spring and being as the rest of the house was going to be renovated throughout we took the gamble of not having a scaffold over-roof during the work. By only doing a section at a time it minimised exposure to the elements but saved huge costs in scaffolding. .
This replacement should last 50+ years and 80% of the removed stone was able to be re-used minimising costs. .

Recently I’ve been asked about non-peroxide whitening and whether it works.
In this next case you can see that the top teeth are incredibly white compared to the bottom teeth.
Don’t be fooled this isn’t because I did any dentistry but the result of us putting on a rubber sheet and keeping the teeth dry.
This is the same effect you get when you visit a non dentist/ beautician that does whitening using non-peroxide gels.
However the effect only lasts a few days rather than 10 years which you would expect from professional whitening.
To get long lasting results you must see a dentist as we are the only people who can do effective, long lasting, whitening treatment.

Today is world vegan day so it seems like a good time to start my series on the different diets that Lisa @ultimatelifeca and I will be talking about in our Dieting. Done Right workshop. Every few days I'll do a post about one of the types of diets we'll be addressing.
Today is obviously about the vegetarian/vegan diet. There are many good things about this diet as most of us could benefit from a more plant-based approched and, done properly, it can be healthy and provide most of the nutrients that we need. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to do right. Doing this diet right goes far beyond just not eating meat or animal derrived products. You still need to be careful about your source of proteins, proper food combining is necessary to ensure you're getting all your nutrients in a day and there are some things that you primarily get from meat that will need to be supplemented.
If not done properly, this diet can lead to problems such as leaky gut, anemia (low iron), hormone imbalances, thyroid problems, malnutirition and a higher risk of mental health issues.
This doesn't mean don't do it, it means make sure you do it properly if you're going to do it and make sure it's the right path for you and your body.
See the link in my bio to sign up for our Dieting. Done Right workshop at @lymphbalancecentre on November 20 as we talk about this diet (as well as others) and how to keep your body and brain healthy while on it.
JUPITER MOVES INTO THE SIGN OF SAGITTARIUS ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 4th
(**STAR BASED ZODIAC**) Note: This post ended up a bit long, but it’s an important article that you’ll probably find helpful & want to save for later this year.
Jupiter is about to change signs again, which is usually a yearly occurrence. It already made a brief appearance in Sagittarius this April before turning retrograde back into Scorpio, so we’ve already caught a glimpse of what to expect energetically.
When I evaluate a planet’s position in the sky, what I do is talk about the planet & sign separately, which should give everyone a general idea about whether the planet feels comfortable in that environment or not. If the planet & sign have relatively cohesive energies, that shows an opportunity to learn & create with more ease & flow. So let’s try this together & see how it unfolds:
Jupiter in the sky represents a seed vibration that’s present within our collective consciousness as belief, trust, and higher purpose. When you feel inspired to learn & grow into a better version of yourself, you’re channeling the power of Jupiter. This energy helps us rise above the details of life that can pull us down & make us feel overwhelmed. We’ve all got some reason to be alive & an answer for why all this is happening, and your relationship & integration with “Jupiter” energy will show me that.
Sagittarius is a sign that’s created by the vibration of Jupiter, so it’s “home” when it arrives in Sag. We experience Sagittarius as something that pulls us forward & gives us a vision for the future. It’s a sign that deals with rules & laws; first on a personal level as our principles & ideals, then on an interpersonal level as religion & civil laws, and finally on a collective level as universal laws & truths that cannot be altered or modified by human interference.
I DID IT !!!!! I was going to wait until Monday to start training. Why do we always wait for Monday? Or until we have lost a few pounds or until we are running out of time ? It makes no sense but it's what most of us do. So I realised I could fit 2 runs in before monday if I started now and Monday will actually be a rest day. Foxx turned down a cinema trip to be my personal trainer and what a fabulous personal trainer he is. Pointing out the pheasants and partridges as I'm running up a hill with Michael Johnson cheering me on in my ear as well as the most uplifting soundtrack in the background. I felt like I was in a feel good movie and I'm the fat kid that wants to be on the baseball team but has no chance so my friend is training me hard so I can make that team 🤣🤣 I cant wait for the grand finale but for now I'm going to enjoy the story. I'm sure there will be lots of ups and downs and twists and turns but hopefully a happy ending with some great music 😎
Well that’s rough! Could have at least glanded onto a wiska box and brought the cores through a stuffing gland! Where’s the pride gone in this industry?! 😬😬

@corten_miller showing how it’s done with a diagnostics session before tuning .
They recently had in a Skoda Octavia 1.4TSi 122BHP for a Stage 1 tune 😁
Before tuning any car we always carry out a diagnostic session. This is the key to real tuning, make sure the car is 100% before adding more power. Upon initial diagnostics they found an inconsistent boost delivery as can be seen in the first dyno graph (boost/torque). Looking deeper into the problem they found a sticky waste gate actuator which we were able to rectify whilst still on the dyno. With the issue addressed they confirmed this with further dyno runs and were then happy to proceed with the APR performance software.
Installing the stage one APR software on 95RON fuel netted very nice gains +40LBFT and +30BHP 😎

There’s no denying Duncan does a lot of the DIY jobs around the house (today he’s plumbing and attaching the drain to the new sink in the utility room 🤯). Despite this, a year of house renovating and I felt I should at least have something other than painting, sanding and manual labour to show for it! .
Putting a mirror up shouldn’t be that hard but knowing Duncan would be nervous of the brand new plastered walls I had to get it right 😳
Well after about 20minutes of planning and worrying it only took about 15minutes to get it done. It wasn’t 100% perfect (one plug was slightly out of alignment for the screw - didn’t need it anyway 🙄), I’ve learnt what I’d do next time to do better, the mirror is central and the wall still looks perfect.
Mantras for DIY:
- If you’re going to do a job, do it properly.
- If you’re not sure how to do something, learn.
The 2 girls smashing it this eve..huge shout out to miss Candice who we made sign up for the open the day before & may have pressured her (only a small bit 😅) in to doing the wods rxd, because we see what she's capable of even when she doesn't see it herself. There she goes this eve...and 💥 all 21 deadlift at 70kg & 8 hspu (mobility goals)! Also there Sarah is in the background going for a walk in the park with the bar 💪! Well done ladies, the standards are tough for this one, if you're doing it properly 😉 🙌 #intheopen#doitproperly#proud#ennisfitfam#clarefitfam#crossfit
Ooo happy day!
Zasyp wykonany.
Ok, let’s talk shipping. This is by far the part where we have the least control and rely on the most for the total satisfaction of our collectors. An artwork damaged during shipping is total devastation for not only the collector but the artist too. Sometimes we do everything we can and it’s still not enough... here are some tips for collectors to insist on, and for artists to live by:
ALWAYS ship the artwork fully insured (ALWAYS!!)
Unless you know what you are doing, get the artwork packaged professionally - I packaged my own artwork because I know what I’m doing, and my heart has been broken by a pro packer who did a shit job and the artwork got damaged anyway 😫 (artists, include these expenses in the final quote of the artwork, don’t add it on at the end or give the collector a choice about it, do this without compromise). I also like to customise the box with “Carla Grace” now so collectors know from the start what they are getting. I use 7mm box, a tone of bubble wrap, core fluting over the face and back of the artwork, protective foam over the face of the artwork and stickers till it would take an idiot to miss the instructions. Next thing I’d do is line the box with foam sheets, but as my work isn’t framed with glass, this hasn’t been necessary.
And last, always insist on tracking info with your shipment. ..
And yes, my belly was in the way a lot when I was packaging this painting 😆😆😳
