It had long been on Dave’s Bucket List to go and see the Gorillas in Rwanda, so when the opportunity arose a few years ago he jumped at the chance. Initially I was reluctant. Gorillas! No way 😱.....But slowly I came round to the idea and the day we trekked to see these wonderful creatures will live in my memory forever. It was INCREDIBLE. .
Anyone else had to be convinced to do something and end up really pleased they did it? .
"В такава тиха вечер като тази, понякога се чувстваме по-силни заради изминалия труден ден. И пак в такива вечери, в които притискаме възглавницата много силно, заспиваме като деца, но никога не се будим отново такива... Защото порастваме." Галя Кутулева, из "Рошавите мисли на едно влюбено момиче"
Mongolia's Naadam Festival is a major event celebrated each year in midsummer. Also known as ‘the three games of men’, the celebrations are centred around three nomadic sports: archery, horse racing, and Mongolian wrestling.⠀
Experience the Naadam Festival firsthand on the July 10th 2020 departure of our Nomads & Wilds of Mongolia (ZUU) overland tour, which coincides with the celebrations and will be in Ulaanbaatar for the opening ceremony on July 11th.⠀

**** turn on the volume **** (2019) in the #Okavango delta there are 3 ways islands form: 1. Termites, 2. Running water, and 3. Earthquakes.
Here we saw a pod of at least two dozen #hippos yards away while sitting just inches above the water in mokoros.
Did you know the #hippo gestation is 9 months, just like humans. There is only one bull in a pod. They mate in shallow water to reduce male weight.
Hippos are sensitive to the sun, and very territorial, making our encounter that much more exciting.
Until 1909, naturalists grouped hippos with pigs, based on molar (teeth) patterns. Several lines of evidence (blood proteins, molecular systematics and DNA, and the fossil record), however show that their closest living relatives are cetaceans – whales, dolphins and porpoises.

We ate baobab fruit right off the tree, it was kind of like an unsweetened candy heart, like you get at valentine's day. The Baobab can live for 5000 yrs. It can withstand extreme heat as you could boil water before it burns. The bark is very soft outside, and elephant tusks puncture tree when they rub their tusks against it to floss. The punctures then rot and can spontaneously combust.
Here I am also standing next to a Termite mound. For perspective, I am 5'10" tall. Termite mounds can reach up to 30-40 m below ground and are extremely well ventilated providing almost an air conditioning system to the mound. #Bushman can use the mount to determine the available minerals (calcium and magnesium), wind direction and general temperature of an area. Termites come out at night, hence nocturnal aardvark, which needs 1 kg of termites per night (50-70 kg). The saliva of the termites is what makes the mound so strong. Bushman also use soldier termites as staples with open wounds; they let the termite bite, then rip off the body, leaving the head to bind the open wound.
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to my Movember page. I have raised £577 so far, that's just over £19 per day, just for having a silly moustache!
There is still time to donate if you have not already :D

This tour ties the heartland of the Incas, Cuzco, the Urubamba Valley, Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail into the framework of the Andes and beautiful Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. The stunning scenery of the region combines with its history to make this region of Peru the most popular tourist attraction in South America, which is why we purposely offer alternative Inca Trails away from other tourists and spend time visiting the historic Bolivian town of Copacabana and the colourful city of La Paz.⠀

Exactly 1 year ago I embarked upon a very exciting journey in life. I decided my health and happiness was the most important and changed a few things. 🍑 HEALTH - I started looking at what I was eating and also started being more active. 🍺ALCOHOL - I removed this completely and have been T-total for the past 12 months. 🌱VEGAN - I switched to the vegan lifestyle 2 months ago to do my part for the planet, animals and aim to put better things inside my body 🐠 PADI - I gained my diving qualification to open up a whole other world to explore 🔧 SKILLS - I now have mechanics training under my belt and can drive a HGV 🚌 CAREER - I took the job of a lifetime working as a tour leader across the globe. 🗺 Life can change and things do not go as planned, but look at the positives and you will be ok. I consider myself very lucky to be working for such an amazing overlanding company + I’ve lasted a whole year so by my standards that must mean I like it 😉 #longestjob yet ! My body is healthier, my mind is happier and my memories are plentiful... #makethechange@dragoman_overland#dragoman#overlanding#adventuretravel#outdoorleader#adventureleader#freespirit#globetrotter#wildchild#globalexplorer#wanderlust#worldtraveller#adventureisoutthere 🚀 🌎 @solotraveling

With more archaeological sites than any other country in South America - including Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World - Peru is a wonderland of historical treasures. It is also home to breathtaking natural scenery, a distinctive cuisine, and fascinating towns and cities.
We are staying in gers (yurts) with a nomadic family near the Great White Lake in Central Mongolia. Every evening two eight year-olds hop on horses and round up a herd of yaks, which is quite a spectacle. Especially if you feel as uneasy on a horse as I do (My large head makes it hard for me to balance on them). Being able to exercise outside has also been one of the highlights of camping in Mongolia. It certainly beats repetitively lifting heavy objects in sweaty underground gyms in London, which don't have any natural light.
