Our CEO, Lead Practitioner and Creative Director @kupidval has been busy with @switchmidlands
This week! Here's what - Giles. D.L. Coghlan. LLB. Lth. MA had to say about Kupid after working with him.
“I worked with Kupid while he was a drama practitioner with The Challenge. I was Assistant Program Leader and got to see a number of practitioners over a few years. Kupid stood out for all the right reasons: Great attitude, calm nature, encouraging to all in the drama group. He had the ability to bring the best out in people and I would highly endorse Kupid.”
This week at Switch they've focused on bullying, friendship, first impressions and communication.

When I was a new mom, I wanted to spend every minute with my first baby. For the first two years of motherhood I rarely left his side—because I wanted to be there for every second.
During that time, I remember speaking at an event and a mother of 5 raised her speak. She said, “I recently spent the night in a hotel to get a break from my family and it was amazing”. I remember feeling pretty judgy towards her.
"What kind of mom wants to leave her kids?” I wondered.
Fast forward 5ish years. As a new mom, I would have never imagined this. But I’m no longer at my best when I spend from sun-up until sun-down with my kids. I need about 5 hours a day away to focus on my work and feel my best.
My husband needs about 10 hours away.
Obviously, we don’t always get this time—especially in this crazy year we are living. But does wanting/needing time away make us bad parents?
Actually, it makes us GOOD parents. Because when we get that time to pursue our careers and interests, we come back to our kids feeling renewed. Our moods are better and our connections are deeper.
When we don’t get that time away, we are okay. Sure, we get a little grumpier. We lean into screen time a little more. We aren’t as perfectly calm or responsive. But we give ourselves grace.
We can’t always meet our own needs parents, but we should never feel guilty for having those needs.
How many hours a day do you need away to feel your best? Maybe it’s 2. Maybe it’s 12.
TO DO: While we are on the topic of racism in our educational system (see last post about the racist origins of the SAT), we are listening to a new podcast, Nice White Parents (🔗 in bio), that is a MUST for white parents, but truly, fascinating for anyone and everyone. From the first episode you are going to hear a lot of truth that you likely have never heard or said out loud. This one will stretch you for sure—this is what the real work is and we must embrace it in order to #ShowUp .
