🐘🇹🇭 Phuket Elephant Sanctuary 🇹🇭🐘 This place was incredible, it’s the only ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket. They rescue elephants from logging, trekking and performing, and give them the chance to be elephants for the rest of their lives ❤️🐘 the staff work so hard and the sanctuary relies on visitors to raise money to rescue more elephants which they have to buy. Each elephant costs roughly 1 million Bhat (approx £25k+). It was a really privilege to spend time with the elephants and observe them in as close to their natural habitat as possible ❤️
So many sweet #elephant babies today at the @sheldricktrust . It was such an awesome experience to watch feeding time for these orphaned baby elephants. All have been rescued to be rehabilitated into the wild! #africa#nairobi#kenya
How was our little munchkin a week old yesterday!! I thought time passed quickly pre baby, now it’s just flying by! It’s been an emotional rollercoaster but I wouldn’t change it for the world! Today has probably been our best day routine wise & we actually got some sleep last night 👏🏼 praying the weather stays nice for tomorrow so we can go for a nice walk around the park and get some nice family pics ♥️
Did you know?
If an elephant calf's ear shows pink, it signifies that it is a newly born baby.
Mama and her sisters etc. use their trunks to help the baby get into it's feet soon after birth. Can you imagine a human baby being able to walk right after birth, let alone stand?
Elephant calves need to nurse for at least two to three years, and often nurse as long as four or even five years.
African Elephant moms carry their babies the longest of any mammals, at 22 months.
Elephants live as long as humans do. We need to protect these dear families.
