This week’s #EmploymentPartnerSpotlight in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is Chicken and Rice Guys! The @CNR team goes above and beyond to make sure that the Triangle program participants feel appreciated and accepted in their positions at the Medford restaurant location. Recently, when one individual retired, they threw a get together to send him off in style and provided him with gold coins that are good for unlimited Chicken and Rice for life (we’re all jealous)! . . . [Image: Yellow food truck parked against a brick wall with Chicken & Rice Guys written in black letters across the top]. . . .

There are certain stereotypes about homeless people that make it difficult for them to get a job, as mentioned in previous posts. How can homeless people then get a job if these are the perceptions within society?
First of all, we need to know that homeless people are NOT worthless or skill-less. They can actually be very talented and unique.
A study by Tweed and colleagues says that homeless people in fact do have a lot of STRENGTHS - these include but aren’t limited to:
Listening and communication skills
Persistence and courage
An organisation called Rethink Homelessness filmed a campaign to challenge these negative stereotypes about homeless people. The film doesn’t tell the story of how these homeless people are homeless but instead shows the homeless people holding cardboard signs with facts written about themselves. And these facts DESTROY the STEREOTYPES.
There are also BENEFITS for employers in hiring homeless people (Creighton, 2018):
1. Investment in the local community with meaningful reciprocal sentiments. This significantly contributes to company reputation building.
2. Building long lasting partnerships with reputable local organisations
3. Following best practices in hiring and developing homeless workers develops a staff of dedicated and motivated workers who will stay with your organisation long term
When there are clear benefits for hiring homeless people, and the negative stereotypes aren’t true, this only goes to show that homeless people should be given EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES!

HOW TO USE YEAR 12 TO GET SOME GREAT INFO FOR UNIVERSITY AND JOB INTERVIEWS.
I’ve just spent the morning at Lodge Park Academy in #Corby where I delivered a workshop as part of an off-timetable day for Year 12 students.
The whole school was actually off timetable and it was great to see so many outside organisations bringing their worlds into an educational setting.
My talk focused on the opportunity that Year 12 gives students to start planning for what lies ahead.....UCAS applications, university interviews and Apprenticeship applications.
One really effective way of getting some relevant content onto your personal statement/cv is to contact a local employer working in the sector you are interested in studying or being employed in. Ask them if you can visit them for an hour to get an insight into their work. Not only can you get a sense of the opportunities available in that sector but you start to make valuable contacts.
The learning doesn't stop when the semester ends! No, that's not a threat; it's a promise to deliver Horizon Intensives. Take advantage of the full menu of Horizon workshops all in one week starting 25 November. Book your spot now on Flinders CareerHub. Just click the Events tab and hit Professional Development Workshops in the sidebar. .
I started with a 30 k Naira job per month. Stop sitting at home waiting for that great job to come, go out there and work for free, add value to an organization at the end of the day you will be surprised at how much you have grown.. You would have gained the experience you need to get you that dream job. #jobs#hr#careercoach#vacancy#employability
