November. Spring is nearly over. Even so, mother nature still has some beauty to offer. Jacaranda is blooming across Perth as summer is peeking just around the corner.
During late spring to early summer, parts of the city brushed with vibrant colour. Fully bloom jacaranda flowers offer splash of purple-ish magic across the city, inviting locals and visitors alike. And those Instagram enthusiasts, they don't need invitations to get the best shot of their perfect pose. That's guaranteed for sure.
Jacaranda is not Australian tree. It is native to Brazil and Argentina with various colours. The one grow in Australia is Jacaranda mimosifolia, the blue (some people would say purple, though) jacaranda. Successfully grown for the first time in 1860s in Brisbane, jacaranda more and more popular during early 20th century as some councils in New South Wales and Queensland rolled out beautification program by giving away jacaranda seedlings to residents.
Not really sure about the history of when and how jacaranda grown for the first time in Perth. All I know is jacaranda has become one of the most awaited moment at the end of spring. Plenty of spots to find jacaranda in Perth with Applecross - host of the annual event Jacaranda Festival - being the most popular suburb. Other suburbs like Mount Pleasant, Subiaco, Burswood and Victoria Park also has their own jacaranda attraction. While some particular spot such as Claisebrook Cove in East Perth offers a rather luxurious vibe of jacaranda that shouldn't be missed. Note that you wouldn't find any jacaranda in Kings Park Botanical Garden. But streets near Parliament House are decorated with these tree as well as the park within the building area.
(QS. Al-Baqarah: 216)
