A new day a new memory #11 The jet d’eau (water jet) on the Lake Geneva, Switzerland is one of the tallest fountains of the world. It is visible from almost every street in Geneva. The jet nozzle shoots 500 litres of water per second at the speed of almost 200 km/hr. Please check the timings and the weather condition before heading towards this landmark because at times, it is shut for the maintenance work or when the weather is too windy or frosty. Watch the video of Geneva on our YouTube channel. Link in bio.
Wow - how life has changed!
(Photo 1) 6 years ago standing out front of a hotel in Langkawi, Malaysia. Note there are no bags, no kids hanging off my hip and my eyes aren’t darting around to see if one of the boys have escaped...! Ahhhh the simplicity and freedom of life pre kids - spontaneously taking our travels one day at a time, wherever , whenever, no planning whatsoever!
(Photo 2) now... 🤦🏽♀️ but 😍🥰
If you could go back in time, what would you tell your 20 something self? 6 years later and I’m married with 3 beautiful boys.. wouldn’t change it but wouldn’t mind a day being 20 something again 🤭🌸
I want to tell you a story about this island. Our new friend Helen shared it with me, and she was told it by an Indigenous man from the mainland. It gave me goosebumps, and I’ll tell you why.
Indigenous people know the island as Yunbenun and there is a special story about it. They say the island has a female spirit, and attracts strong women.
Long ago, there was a big argument between the men and the women of an Aboriginal tribe on the mainland. The women decided to leave the men, and at low tide they took the children and walked over to the island - Yunbenun - where they lived in harmony and the island provided. Eventually the women and children returned to the mainland - the nightly screams of the curlews scared them - but ever since the island has had a female force.
Because of its strong female spirit the island is said to attract strong women and most don’t even know how they came to be here.
And I thought about the remarkable people I’ve met since I’ve been here - all amazing strong women like Helen and the school principal Kasey, our new friends Gemma and Carole, and Krystal and Carissa and the awesome girls at @scallywags_cafe and so many more. And I’ve asked a few how they came to be here and most of them have a story to tell about randomly, accidentally ending up on the island - just like we have - and once they came here they didn’t want to leave. Isn’t it amazing? I think it’s the community so many of us are looking for.

When travel leaves you speechless! We tried to go to London yesterday until we had to give up 😅 First we arrived at the airport early in the morning in good time. Checked in and went through security. We had fika but then at the passport control we were told that because Cordelia now has a personal number, her Swedish passport that we got in London was invalid. We need a new one stating her number. 🙈 We didn’t think of it and this was never pointed out to us. We had left the British one at home as we didn’t think we needed it. We were advised to go to a service desk and rushed there to rebook. All service desks were closed so we had to go out and then it was too to late to rebook so we had to purchase new tickets for the last flight. My husband rushed to get the passport and I took Cordelia into town for a walk in a park. We went back to the airport for 2.30 but as we stepped off Arlanda express my husband texted and said the car has stopped on the E4 motorway ! No petrol left despite it saying 25l left. 🙈 So he had to wait for a lorry to take him in the car, on top of the lorry to a petrol station 2k away and we miss the last flight! So this is what we did. Stayed in a favourite boutique hotel. 👍😘
camping off the grid used to make this mama pretty nervous ... i was admittedly anxious about being without cell service for so long, running into large critters 🐻 and not having other humans around if we need them for anything ... I have since grown to LOVE the solitude and crave the time to be out in nature, just the four of us 💫💛🌎🌲
we would love to hear what you all think about #boondocking 🚐 do you love it as much as we do??
It’s really strange to think that a few months before we found out I was pregnant with Roam, we made the decision to not have kids (because we wanted to freely travel the world)
She’s gonna be 2 next month and I think I’ve *almost* traveled more in the last 2 years, than in my 28 years before her.
A lot of people thought we were naive for thinking we would be able to travel once we had a baby...but it’s totally doable. It’s not always easy, but the more Roam travels, the more it becomes second nature for her (and for us to travel with a kid.)
Becoming a parent doesn’t have to hold you back from living a life of adventure...in fact it makes life even more of an adventure.
