Feeling more local. I love when we are asked, “where are you from?” And we say St. Thomas🌴. #feelinglocal
'Local' for #Mayonthemove2020
For me, being local is about not having to THINK too hard to exist on a day-to-day basis. I can just BE.
It means being able to navigate a city, social situations, a language etc. on autopilot.
It's that lack of feeling resistance or discomfort - whether that's in different situations, countries or with people.
That said, being local doesn't necessarily mean that it's a good match or that I agree with how things are done.
It just means that I understand why things are done a certain way and I can deal with whatever-it-is in a way that allows me to respect my sense of self as well.
After going through that long and arduous process of adapting to a new culture, country or just a new phase of life, there's a great sense of relief to be found in getting to that place where you can just BE a local.
