Managed to get under some Exmoor high birds on what must have been the sunniest, stillest day of the season 😎. At least we didn’t get a soaking like every single other day I’ve been out! Had my old boy Jaeger with me on peg on what might be his last proper days shooting before retirement which does make me a bit sad. He still loves a shoot day but I’ve really noticed this season that he’s slowed right down and a bit of his drive is going along with an attitude of ‘I’ll do what I like thanks dad,’ which is probably due to deafness and not hearing the whistle (and a lack of training 🙃). He also takes days to recover after a hard days work and that shoot day morning at home excitement/anticipation that young dogs get is being replaced by preferring to stay curled up in bed. it’s only fair that I call it a day on his working and that was loosely the plan anyway at the end of this season. Jaeger has been a great shooting companion, from beating and picking up to being on a peg and if my young dog Timber can match him in attitude and personality (and hopefully exceed him in ability) then I’ll be over the moon. Good job JB, you’re a 🌟 p.s. if I’m honest you’ll probably still get the odd chance to have a mooch about here and there next season and beyond if you want to but no pressure. #labradorretriever#gundog#workingdog#blacklab#pegdog#shootday#exmoorpheasants#drivenshooting#birddog#pickingup#fieldsports#fieldsportsbritain#thefield#countrylife#woodadventfarm#highbirdshooting#beretta#pheasantshooting#gundogjournal
Last drive of the day (the sun came out after the wind and rain!) gave us the perfect end to a fantastic day! Astronomical pheasants, supersonic partridge and hilarious company, what more could you wish for? #girlsonpegs

The last few weeks has seen a number of low pressure weather systems battering the UK but now we have a change bringing morning frosts and winter sunshine. Boots on the ground early this morning to clear some of these does up before the end of March.
The undisputed King of wild game! 🙌🙌
These amazing little birds have to have properly managed ‘wild’ habitat to gather in numbers. Ancient oak woodland with natural ground cover is the perfect home for these visitors. Challenging shooting, wild terrain and excellent eating! What could be better? #GRB

Just a daily video on my thoughts for the day about fieldsports generally everything from shooting, conservation, wildlife management, gun choice and of course dog choice.
A huge thank you to all our supporters who attended our drinks at @jamespurdeyandsons last night to mark the 500,000th meal delivered to people in need.
Thanks to Purdey, @knightfrank , @pinkstergin and Alvarium for covering all our costs.
We are now just £22k short of completing our £100k winter appeal so please if you have not helped us would you consider doing so - every little helps us feed people in need. Just follow the LINK IN BIO to our donations page 👍👍 #thecountryfoodtrust#charity
Perennial crops are always worth considering!!
This canary grass was planted at the same time as the trees, over 10 years ago. It’s still providing good ground cover, and will continue to do so for years to come. 👍👍
Get in touch to discuss you gamecover for next season!! #brightseeds#gamecover

Whizz the rescue spaniel loving her day out in the field today and staying snuggly warm in her Newmarket coat at end of the day, we love her! #girlsonpegs

One of the amazing parts of shooting is seeing different parts of the countryside with all of its quirks (the aim of the game here was to get from one side to the other without falling in). Sounds simple?!

So proud of Purdey, she is loving her days in the field and learning so much. It looks as though she is more concerned about the sausages appearing at elevenses here rather than hugs and photos! #girlsonpegs#purdeyonpegs#thecountryfoodtrust 🐕🧡
