This side of our house was a huge eye sore . Huge ! So many rocks. So many weeds .
I’ve been saying I would like a few garden boxes over there but really didn’t know if we would get to clearing out all those weeds .
But.... today todd decided to make me a garden box so we cleared out this spot and made it happen. We still have a ways to go on this little side of our home but I think it would be safe to say we made some progress this weekend !
We planted tomatoes 🍅, some peppers 🌶, cucumber 🥒, zucchini, squash , and lettuce 🥬. The kids all helped Todd and I. #manyhandsmakelightwork#gardenarea#beforeandafter#fixerupper
Mark decided that today was the day I became a man and learned to use the miter saw to help with laying our floor. 💪 I still have all 10 fingers and conquered one of my fears in life. Plus, our floor is done!!! 🎉 The nail gun still scares me to death though... so don’t plan on that power tool skill anytime soon. Baby steps. #girlpowertools
Today was a dream day. We worked on the house for the ENTIRE day until 10pm. We took short breaks for lunch with Ty’s mom (who also helped paint!), and a picnic dinner in the yard with my little sister. After dinner, Ty and I took a walk around the neighborhood. A neighbor had a “free stuff” sign in their driveway with a small table holding books and CD’s. I was surprised to find a stack of beautiful hard cover books about Holland architecture, Michigan lighthouses, and more. These precious beauties will be cherished. I love a good stack of coffee table books! I was so excited to stumble upon these books about our new city - loving our new neighborhood! 🌷
Spending time with your loved ones is a priority. It is time that is spent because of love. It brings forth strength into the souls of all whom are brave enough to open up to give and receive love. Taking a moment to step outside and watch my children play with mother Earth...provides me a great deal of joy! .
Whoever told me that buying a new build home meant you didn’t have to do any work on it, lied.
We opted out of some of the upgraded finishes with the builder because I truly felt like they were gauging us.
One of those things was our upper cabinets. We found the original cabinet company @thebamcogroup who installed our kitchen with the builder and had them install the cabinets to extend the kitchen to the ceiling. We definitely saved a few bucks doing it this way and you would never be able to tell they were added on after!
Other ways we chose to finish the kitchen on our own include the matte black door knobs (still not fully switched over and if you look closely in the photo, you can see lol), a gorgeous matte white & textured backsplash from @ciot1950 (waiting on our tiles to come in) and updating the pantry door to a black French door (which I am almost done). These projects are taking way longer than they should because there are only so many naps my daughter wants to have in a day (and lately, that’s 0).
Folks, I really stepped out of my comfort zone with this house. My style is traditionally more white and classic while in this house we opted to go with a more dark and slightly modern feel. Think MCM meets steampunk - that’s what I’m calling it.

This was my happy place today...along with hanging out in bed all morning watching #sweetmagnolias on Netflix (so good)! We brought in my painted cabinet turned shelf and....I’m not a fan of the color. Lesson learned...spray paint Serenity Blue is not the same as a can of paint. Back to the drawing board on this one because it’s just too bright of a light blue. So no big reveal quite yet on that one. But ⏪ swipe for a few in progress pics and I’ll keep you posted! We also had our first round of s’mores tonight and they were amazing! Hope y’all are having a great holiday weekend! 🤍

Found this cute shelf for $5 at the thrift store. Debating painting her. I also sold all of our possessions and belongings and I have no regrets. I guess quarantines got me a little crazy 🥂 #thriftedhome
I finally finished the dry creek bed, using only rocks collected on my hikes and found on the property. I made the gravel by sifting it from all of the dirt I dug up, and added beautiful quartz to make it magical. It's also positioned under the roof's drip edge to capture the morning dew as it rolls off the roof!
Busy day at our new house today. We finished washing all of the walls/ceiling, cleaned all of the existing blinds, ripped up the carpet from the dining room, rebuilt the shower drain/piping (thanks dad 😊), tore down wall paper and showed Odin his new backyard.
Next up: laminate flooring removal + LVP install #newhouse#homeowners#fixerupper#adoptdontshop#greenery
Thinking through all of our must-haves in our forever home and making changes over and over again to get our plans just right! Meeting with our drafter tomorrow and never have I felt so indecisive! 🤦🏼♀️

Fixer upper opportunity in Saint Louis! $50,000! Built in 1894. Near the historic red water tower. 4428 Blair Ave, Saint Louis, MO 63107. I am not a realtor. Photos from listing. Listed by
After thirty years in Western Australia, we definitely know our brand, and so do buyers. .The Realmark brand is a cut above the rest, as the premier boutique real estate agency in WA. We have the heart of small business, but the skill of a major corporate. Find the best of both worlds with us.
Progress! Decided to get a start on our landscaping and gardening plans for the backyard - first up replacing our old puppy-destroyed grass with new sod. We also planted a hedge of ornamental grass and some hydrangea vine along the fence. Lots more to come as we turn this into our sanctuary 🌾🌱🌿🏡 #theharshawhouse#diy#backyardoasis#fixerupper

The horror of last week is behind us! YAY! 🙌🙌 This week in room 2 of Carrington House we need it to run more smoothly by hitting our timings and keeping within budget 💲💲! PLUS, I just want to shift the energy of this space from dark and heavy to light and beauitful!
So, we are:
✔️ gyprocking the walls and cieling
✔️ installing the gorgeous timber trims from @intrimgroup and just like in room 1 we are going for skirts, chair and picture rails and wainscoating
✔️ choosing my wall paper and paint colours
✔️ adding the crown jewels - real plaster cornices 👑
Plus, my amazing vinyl floor planks from @gerflorau arrived as well as my fans and lights 💡 from @beaconlighting Lighting
Do I pull it off? Does the energy of this room turn around? Watch the video to find out....link in my bio 👆
I present to you... Sexy, dramatically lit close-up photos of plaster washers 🤣. My first floor ceiling has had giant holes in it for the last six months and the current project is to remedy that situation. Seeing as Swiss Cheese Houses aren't a thing. Very excited to finally be making progress on this.
Why fix the plaster? Why not replace it with drywall? I know I'm in the minority here, but I see the plaster as an important part of the history of the house, made by the hands of immigrant laborers 100+ years ago just like the woodwork was. I also think plaster is a superior material in some ways... Sound dampening for one. Also since I'm the only one working on the project, it's easier to do plaster with one person than giant chunks of drywall. That said, I try to be practical as well, so my rule of thumb is if the lath is still there or mostly there and it's feasible to do, I use plaster. Otherwise, I sub in drywall. Also, it is true that sometimes the plaster is just decrepit and crumbling and not possible to save.
In case you're interested, I recently posted a tutorial on how to stabilize old plaster and saved it in my highlights. To be clear, there's nothing unique about my method and I've adapted it from various places and with the help of multiple people here on IG, so it's not "my" method in any way, but I just thought people might find it useful since it's a messy, obscure, and somewhat tricky topic.
If you follow my stories you know I’ve been working on my flower bed the last few weeks. Swipe to see the step-by-step process 👉🏻 Future years should not take me as long 🤞🏻. This year was different though, because I had to remove ALL the river rock. 😳 It was a ton of work. But, it’s done now and I’ve had fun putting my bed together. I still have the other side to go, but that may be a project for next year. 🤔
Remodel update at the Young’s! Shut down for almost a month but back at it and almost ready for the roof! In the midst of seriously scary times, it’s nice to have something fun to focus on 😅 #fixerupper#remodel2020#foreverhome
Bathroom reveal is finally here! After the work was done, we decided to repaint almost the entire bathroom again because it didn’t look as new 😂 It feels so great having our bath/shower re done and I can’t wait for all the bath memories we will make with the boys 🙏🏼 .
My oldest wants all the plants in the bathroom so we settled on two. 😉 I really love how it turned out! Let me know if you have any questions! 🤍

When I was only 24 years old, about a year and a half after college, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life: I bought a fixer upper house. When I say this house needed some work... it needed what seemed like never ending work, work, work, work, work! 🏚
I was scared to my core.
But I was sick of paying rent. I wanted to leave a legacy for my future family. I wanted my own, sis.
Then, I had the nerve to do it with cash (no financing at all). If you know me, you know I didn’t ask for help (although I had a loooooot of support). PLUS I was only getting paid $11 an hour... And this is still OUR home 🏡
