We love us some A-26 here at the CAF. We have two flying examples in the CAF A-26 Invader Squadron's "Night Mission" and the A-26 "Lady Liberty", then we have one in the museum at CAF Airbase Arizona, and one under restoration. So we're happy to celebrate the birthday of the Douglas A-26 Invader, which took its first flight #OTD in 1942.
A lot of folks get confused between the Invader and the Martin B-26 Marauder because the Invader did use the "B-26" designation for a time in the middle of its career once the Marauder was retired. Do you know why it was changed back to A-26 in the Vietnam Era?
Air France and Lufthansa A380s in storage at Teruel Airport in Spain. All Air France A380s have been retired whilst Lufthansa are retiring a number of their A380s and the left over ones will remain on the ground until 2021.
Spoiler - a mechanism designed to control the reduction of lift on the wing. For the most part, the spoilers are structurally placed on the upper surface of the wing. Thus, the formation of lift behind the interceptors stops and this part of the wing is switched off. The main difference between spoilers and air brakes is that the latter are designed for the most part to increase resistance, without affecting the formation of lift. Interceptors also affect the formation of lift and drag.
Spoilers can be used both in combination with other controls and wing mechanisms, or independently. When removed, the spoilers do not affect the operation of the wing.
In the case of a glider, with the help of spoilers, the pilot controls the intensity of the descent and thus corrects the landing calculation. If there is an excess of height during approach, the spoilers are released; if the height is optimal, they may not be used. After touching during the run, the spoilers are used to reduce the length of the run (along with the wheel brake). Types of spoilers:
Besides the bicycle, I have another favourite means of transport: the plane. For me it is always fascinating to get on a plane here in Berlin and after a maximum of 2..3 hours get off somewhere and you are at a completely different place. With a different language, different weather and different geography. Mostly you have already flown over at least 2 other language zones. But not only that - also the whole act of flying itself inspires me again and again. Simply that it is technically possible at all. The compact design of all things in an airplane. The take-off, the landing - I even like it when it really rumbles in the air! And I am always thankful that, simply by being born, I was lucky enough to get a passport that allows me to do so at any time.
