Hello 👋🏼 and Welcome! So let me tell you a little bit of how ‘The Chicken Nerd’ evolved. Funny story actually... Before 2019 I said I would NEVER own chickens. I had my reasons and that was that!
Fast forward to 2019 and here I am with 9 that are laying now. I have 17 being raised until they are ready to be in the big coop. No, no... only keeping 8. 🙃
I lost 3 the first two months of getting them so I was just replenishing those lost. Might as well add some other new kinds while I’m at it so that takes me to 8 more 😃
The name came because I researched all about them, decided I wanted to take on some new pets and continue to learn about them through watching and reading 🤓 Ryan has since called me The Chicken Nerd 😆
So basically, here I am killing this “I’ll never have chickens” thing 🤣 #neversaynever

Brad & I are putting together tons & tons of vid clips showcasing our first full day exploring the flourishing, diverse, beautifully vegetated island of Kauai, Hawaii!🌺🌴🎋
Bout time right?
Slowly but surely we are learning how to make movies with our real life footage.

This is the exact type of tree that Buddha meditated on mindfulness & reached enlightenment under, after he left his comfort zone & found the world was full of suffering.
I enjoyed some time following in his footsteps & channeling his energy submerged in the blessed natural world under this beautiful tree in this beautiful nature preserve.
I understand + entertain Buddha’s teachings but I do not believe the world is full of only suffering. ‘Tis be what you decide to focus on, my friend. Perception is everything! The glass can be half full or half empty depending on how you decide to see it.
The world is full of all ~ good & evil • light & dark • love & hate • ease & pain • happiness & sadness • life & death ~ but the more we focus on which of these we truly want more of in everyday life; the more we focus on what we want to celebrate & amplify, the more we shall see more of those things simulate + synchronize before our eyes.
We are capable of living our best lives in this lifetime & enlightening to a small form of heaven on earth before we even get to the afterlife. 🔅 It has been helpful for me & my journey to remember the importance that there will always be ups & downs on earth but appreciating the flows will bring higher highs + less low, lows. This way, when the inevitable ebs are present, I decide to let them pass instead of ruin my whole perception of life & use them as fuel to enjoy the flows even more!

Millennial #2 has left the nest today having spent the last week or so moving into his new pad. I initiated it but it’s still sad that it’s the end of an era and I won’t have my boy so close and maybe never again. Hopefully it’s the start of a whole new beautiful stage in being a Mum. Being a Mum is so bittersweet sometimes. 😊😩 Don’t mind me. I know this has little to do with interiors .... except that we managed to make the batch room of someone who says he doesn’t care about how it looks to look pretty good. And guess whose looking chuffed about his new environment. Definitely makes a difference to have an attractive space to come home to. 🏠🍬🏠. Mamas sending your kids off to college....you are my people.
We are not quite there yet....but we are taking these three back to boarding school today (the big one stays home with me😂). In some ways, I’m pretty sure seeing them off to boarding school is even harder because they leave the nest even earlier 😫.
After five years of saying goodbye to them, here is what I’ve learned.
1️⃣They will be okay. You raised them well mama. You’ve given them a strong foundation & moral compass that guides them.
2️⃣You will be okay. I’m not going to lie, it was really hard when my boys left for school as 8th graders. But when my daughter also went away a few years later, making me an early empty nester, it put me in a funk. Who was I if not a mom with carpool & homework helping duties? It took me while to figure out who I was & tbh I’m still working on me.
3️⃣They will mess up. It’s ok, they’re supposed to. I remember getting a call from the Dean of Students informing us that Braden had been caught using a teacher login to access WiFi in his dorm (where there was no WiFi). He spent a day on Farm Duty as punishment - think cleaning up after stinky animals all day - & probably learned more from that experience than he did in Algebra class all year. Learning from mistakes is golden.
4️⃣Lean on your friends or a support group, You are not alone, even though it may feel that way. Like every stage in a woman’s life, thousands of women have been here before or are in the thick of it with you right now. Just like you needed support on how to get your newborn to sleep through the night or latch on properly & you found a community of new mamas to join, there are wise women experienced in your current situation.
Hang in there dolls. You are stronger than you know! and your babies will make you so proud!
I’m an Empty-Nester!
Many of my peer moms and dads are now paddling the same boat, trying to navigate these new uncharted waters!
When much of your life has been defined as a parent (at least partially), it may be hard to adjust to life without kids in the home. Ever heard of “empty nest syndrome?” This is when parents have feelings of sadness and loss as the transition experience takes place when the last child leaves the family home. Although it isn’t an official clinical diagnosis, the problem is still very real.
Parents with empty nest syndrome experience a deep void in their lives and they often feel a little lost. They may also struggle to allow their adult children to have autonomy as it’s hard for them to let go.
Some couples experience higher levels of conflict when one or both partners have empty nest syndrome. This can compound feelings of loneliness and distress.
Fortunately, there are some things you can do to address empty nest syndrome.
If you’re struggling to deal with your children moving out of the home, these five strategies can help you cope:
Last Sunday with this darling baby boy @franklin_newmen before he leaves the country to soar higher in life. My heart hasn’t quite grasped the thought of life without him. The hope of him having a better life keeps me happy. Fly away my darling Frankie baby! I love you infinity times infinity! ❤️ .
💚 We all know friends sometimes come and go.. but when they stick around no matter what, it’s a priceless friendship!! You don’t have to see each other often, but you just know that you always have each other’s back.
Kimber and I met on a Shabbat evening @ a Family weekend 15 years ago and there is no coincidence that we had Jazz Shabbat last night!! We have many shared memories, some with smiles and laughter and some with tears. Now we get to share our kids going off to college in a few weeks. Once again, we will be there for each other!! I am grateful for our friendship Kimber!!💚🧡 #collegeboundbraves#flythecoop#blazeatrail#emptynestmom#dreambigworkhard#trustyourheart#truefriendships#brightfutures
Here she is, our lovely Ali Rigg holding the delicious @greenbroomfarm beets on her last ever day working with us here at the @goringgrocer. Having worked with Stu and Mrs P for 5 years now, it is safe to say that Ali has become a friend to our regular customers and a constant part of the Pierrepont family working team. She will be very missed by our customers but mostly by us, so pop in and give her a hug to wish her luck on her next big adventure! X
This sweet little nest of 5 swallows greet us at every meal. I’ve never seen parents work harder - constantly flying in with food to keep their babies fed. The biggest chick is flapping and will leave the nest soon. Like so many mommas I know sending their babies off to school soon- it’s sad to see the nest empty but we raise them to fly!
