A moody Impressionist portrait of my handsome friend Samuel. He looks in this one like he belongs in the 19th century, musing over political controversy.
Painted with oil on gesso primed canvas board. I tried using a technique I am unfamiliar with which was used a lot by Frank Frazetta decades ago. He would underpaint his canvas with a prominent colour and use it as his mid tone. Afterwards, he would simply add darks, lights and alter the temperature of certain areas. It is quite challenging.
Stay in tune for more! Soon some still lifes and landscapes as I need to work on something else.
