Grilled vegetables ratatouille with green peas mash, polenta and stir fried vegetables - no, this was not my choice of dish, but my friend @smitadeo_ ordered this for herself at @thehomemadecafeandbar when we met last week. She insisted that I try it and well I had to comply! I must admit that this was delicious and totally something that I’d order when I go to the cafe again and would recommend it to others too! 💕
I noticed that this was part of a lean menu that they’ve introduced and there’s a lot out there which makes it easy for people who’re on diets or following a strict regime but still want to indulge in eating out. Also, how vibrant is this plate? 😊
5-ingredient dinner for this week: chicken enchilada bowl! This low carb, dairy-free version of enchiladas will still knock your socks off...the corn is such a yummy addition (@traderjoes has the best frozen roasted corn) and the @casasanchezfoods avocado salsa kills it as always! I have this mean in my 5-ingredient stories along with my other ones. It’s so easy and so good, give it a try!

you guys this may be shocking buuuut i have never ever baked or cooked anything with pumpkin before !! i’ve been seeing it all over my feed and knew that i had to try it out. for my first recipe with it i made pumpkin cookies with maple cream cheese frosting !! they are honestly so so delish. super cinnamony, the best chewy texture, and i cannot get enough of the cream cheese frosting ! the perfect fall cookie !! except maybe next time i’ll be able to make them look a lil more like cookies lol !! 🥰🙌🏻✔️
recipe !! •
1/2 + 1/4 c canned pumpkin
2 c almond flour
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon + LOTS more (do however much you like!) 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 c whipped cream cheese
1 tbsp maple syrup .
simply combine all ingredients (in the first list) and then form into cookie shapes on a baking tray !! fyi the dough is a little hard to shape so just do the best you can. bake at 350 for around 20 minutes. depending on the size of your cookies, they may need a little longer. while the cookies are baking mix the cream cheese and maple syrup together. once you remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool, top with the cream cheese mixture. lastly sprinkle a little extra coconut sugar on the cookies !! i recommend storing in the fridge or freezer because of the cream cheese. 🥳🥳🥳

This truth was fundamental for me in being able to overcome my tendency to binge. Whenever I'd start eating something delicious or special, I'd tell myself "This is bad and wrong. You'll start over tomorrow, and then never eat this again." In case it isn't obvious by now, the next step for me was eating as much of it as I possible could until I was so full I was sick. ⠀
Allowing myself to eat my favorite foods whenever I wanted them broke their power over me, and now I'm free to enjoy them whenever I want - no binge eating! #eatwithfreedom ⠀

Wouldn't it be nice if we always had time for a healthy, delicious home cooked meal? 🍳 Yeah, I wish too. This photo was taken on a Sunday last summer. Today I ate leftover Coconut flour pancakes cold out of the fridge with nothing on them on my way out the door. But they're gluten-free, moist, naturally kind of sweet....super delicious and I made up a batch earlier this week with busy mornings in mind.
I guess this is kind of a 'Reality vs. Instagram' post. Don't beat yourself up if you're grabbing an apple and running out the door - but being prepared definitely helps. #humblebrag I was prepping all weekend in little chunks - it made my "meal prep" not seem like an entire day was wasted to cooking and cleaning, and I didn't go crazy with labelled containers but my fridge and pantry was stocked full of grab and go snacks or healthy breakfasts, with some dinner staples cooked or planned ahead of time. Wow, life saving moves Taryn. Actually. This week I was less rushed, more satisfied, felt kind of proud tbh ("like, yeahhhhh I'm snacking on my overnight oats with homemade chia seed jam right now with hemp hearts sprinkled on top despite leaving the house at 6am and my soup I made last night took 20 minutes and was the bomb.com"). Biggest thing - haven't had to go to the grocery store once. I am a frequent late night visitor at the Gibsons IGA... wondering around the aisles aimlessly at 8pm, dazed from my 12 hour day. And it's on those nights I always buy ice cream. Sometimes 3 flavours.

Feeling myself on this lovely Thursday 😏👏🏻. Finished up with a great upper body day and 30 minutes of cardio (which is more than I’ve done in about 6 months LOL). Sometimes no matter how stressed, frustrated, or anxious you are... you just have to keep faking it until you make it. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing and I think it’s starting to help 😂. Distraction techniques are so so important!
Sometimes the ED voice can become too intrusive, to the point where want to curl up in a ball and ignore the world. I am fighting that voice telling me that I have to go out for a long walk. I decided to start a puzzle. A bloody hard one too! It will keep my mind occupied. Especially as it now time to have an afternoon snack.
Instead of not eating my afternoon snack, I will be ignoring the ED voice and throwing myself into the puzzle.
Recovery isn't linear and some days need more effort than others but, I keep telling myself that it is possible!
I feel like this week alone I’ve made SO much progress: two nights out in a row (drinking alcohol which is a MAJOR fear/challenge) AND I WENT OUT FOR BREAKFAST WITH MY FRIENDS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS AND NOT ONLY DID I GO BUT I ORDERED EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED (no silly anorexia versions of food YAY) Now I can honestly say I enjoyed every single bite but that’s not to say it was easy. Afterwards I managed okay for the rest of the day but in the evening when I was on my own the guilt was horrendous and I had such a panic attack that I had to ring my mum which ended with her and my dad driving the whole way down to take me home. But despite that I don’t regret doing it. Challenges are never going to easy and I know that the next time I challenge this it won’t be just as bad. This was a huge first step. The old me would have got myself together and forced a fake smile to join in again, head out that evening and pretend like nothing was wrong but I know now when to put myself and my recovery needs first. Going home and resting was the best decision at this time for me. I was both mentally and physically exhausted and that was only after two days. But not everyone else is fighting an eating disorder every second of the day. So, to anyone else struggling to keep up with freshers week don’t worry, honestly you’re not missing out, there will be plenty of more nights out to come and you’re better off going out when you’re both mentally/physically ready…trust me you’ll enjoy it so much more!

And obviously topped with the goods: @terrasoul cacao nibs + coconut chips. Savory oats going down on this gorgeous Thursday 😏 here’s how 👉🏻 cooked 1/3 cup oats in water. Once cooked, stir in some grated @cabotcheese cheddar, salt, pepper and garlic powder. After a nice hilly run 🏃🏼♀️ this morning🏔, it called for our classic favorite combo of avocado 🥑toast 🍞with fried eggs🍳. The perfect thing about this meal is the balance of fat, carbs and protein which helps with muscle recovery and fueling for the rest of the day🤗. It has taken me a while to really understand that the food I put in my body does have a direct correlation with my performance 🥇and being recovered for the next hard day. While I used to view food as the enemy🙅🏼♀️, I now look at food as an opportunity to make me better and stronger💪🏼

Time for a spicy treat ! Look at the rains in Mumbai!. Yes, I made the quintessential Maharashtra speciality misal pav with mixed pulses that I soaked earlier and boiled. I was craving for something spicy and this dish fulfills my craving. Warning : sinus opening spice levels( can be adjusted though).

How I made the USAL for MISAL : 💚Usal is the gravy of the mixed pulses and misal is when this gravy is mixed with farsan. 💚Soak dried pulses overnight or 5 hours minimum. Pressure cook with some salt and water for 4 whistles and simmer for 10 minutes. 💚💚Saute in some oil cumin seeds, finely chopped onions, green chillies , lots of crushed fresh garlic till onions are light brown. 💚Add corriander powder, red chilly powder, usal misal masala( a special spice mix for this recipe), and some dried or wet garlic chutney. 💚Add fresh tomato puree ,some ❤️and salt and saute till oil leaves the sides of the pan. Add grated fresh or frozen coconut. Mix well . 💚Add the boiled pulses. Mix. Add sufficient water for the gravy. Let it boil. 💚Add garam masala powder and chopped cilantro. 💚For Serving.: Take some farsan in a bowl. Add the usal gravy on top. Add chopped onions and more farsan. Garnish with chopped cilantro and some garlic chutney powder. Enjoy with soft pav / dinner rolls.
