Not a fan of the tone in your question but it is a great question! You are not the first person to ask!
I didn’t make up my nickname, but I certainly embraced it! Let me explain the story.
When I first started Holey Brewed I was so excited that I’d tell anyone who’d listen. About a month after officially launching, my close group of buddies and I were headrf to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. I know…so cliché!
The buddies I went with were all my high school friends. We’ve been friends for a long, long time. We’ve built our friendship on a foundation of chirping (making fun of) each other. Our chirps range from subtle to not-so-subtle. To be honest with you guys, I am not sure if we even know how to be nice to one another anymore. Through all the chirping, we are brothers and we’d go to war for one another.
While we were in Vegas, Holey Brewed hit a major milestone (at the time) which was 300 followers. I was so excited about this milestone that I made the mistake of telling my friends. Mixing alcohol with their general personalities of being complete a**holes, they took what I was proud of and used it against me. They thought it would be hilarious to go up to anyone we met (servers, dealers, bartenders, girls) and say things such as... Do you know that you’re in the presence of the great Mr. HB
Roll out the red carpet, Mr. HB is here
Do you know that this guy is famous? His name is Mr. HB and he has 300 hundred followers on Instagram
Oh…you’re drinking coffee? Meet Mr. HB, he’s a self-proclaimed expert
These were the PG rated ones. Like I said, alcohol was involved so most were not PG rated.
Although they were giving me a hard time, I decided to embrace it. I always try to take a negative and turn it in a positive. To be honest with you, I thought it had a bit of a ring.
Most importantly, as my coffee character grows in popularity and the platform continues to expand, I can look at my good group of buddies and smile. They know that the smile is a super passive aggressive way of me telling them to go f**k themselves!
