Gentoo Penguins travel from the water up to their colony using the Penguin highways. You can see penguins following the same route up to the top, where their nets are. You can also see the green & red algae (called Christmas algae) really well in this shot 🐧🇦🇶

You often see this image of linguine in the snow, and while that is true in the winter. The Gentoo penguins on the other hand need bare rock for their nests. This results in them climbing up to barren, wind swept points to ensure they can get to rock. One thing that everyone seems to forget to mention is that you can usually smell penguin colonies long before you can see them.
A gentoo penuin feeds her chick at Jougla Point, Antarctica.
While photographing this, I stood in one spot for about 20mins, just watching various penguins feed their chicks. When the chicks want food, they scrape their mother’s beak and that releases the regurgitation of food to feed to the chick. This happens multiple times in a row, until one point when the mother had enough. In a hilarious chase through the rookery, the mothers would take off, running away from their chicks, the chicks (often two) sprinting after them screaming loudly.
Another magical day at the end of the world. We boarded a bus east out of the city and took a zodiac out to a private island that is home to a colony of Magellanic penguins. There's also a small but growing Gentoo penguin colony living there as well. Because the island is private, there's a very limited amount of people who can visit and so it's well preserved and the penguins aren't too thrown by small groups of quiet and respectful humans coming to check out their digs. They were waddley and curious birds - everything you'd expect them to be. The weather was unexpectedly warm. We saw albatross and cormorants - it was perfect. #piratour#penguins#magellanicpenguin#gentoopenguin#tierradelfuego#dreamsdocometrue#myheart#argentina#visitargentina#theendoftheworld#allthewaysouth

My hiking guides have the cutest little hineys, don't you agree? 🥰😍 swipe for more videos of our ship, views, and more penguins. #Antarctica#penguinparadise
P.S. I kept to the 5 meter rule that our expedition leaders gave us. @clintox is sitting with the penguins 3rd vid. @deltapapa6477 eating lunch on the ships sun deck.
One of the characteristics that makes penguins so endearing is the way they waddle when they walk. It was thought that this awkward, rolling motion had to waste energy until scientists showed that it actually helps by raising their centre of mass and reducing the muscle work required in an animal with such short legs.

Sunday promenade of two gentlemen: Mr. Red Beak and Mr. Orange Legs (This was my second attempt(within one day) to sail to Isla Martillo with its famous gentoo penguin (Pygoscelis papua) colony during stormy day in Tierra del Fuego. Luckily it was successful and brought me a lot of pleasure observing this cute guys, despite of the weather)
