I met every single one of theses friends on FB but hadn’t actually “met” them until TODAY (except Ernest, y’all know he’s my “hiking husband.”) You would have thought we had been friends for YEARS because of the stories that were told & laughs that were shared.
THAT. WAS. FUN!! ...and really challenging BUT when you take on a difficult physical challenge it ignites the inner badass in you that trickles into all areas of your life making you feel more capable & confident. Trying to live more. Acting free from conventional rules, practices and traditions. Becoming an open minded and a free spirited thinker. Knowing who I am. Enjoying the blissful path of life. An awesome message and pictures from one of our former guest, just had to share! "Hey! We visited your site a few years ago on a cross-country road trip with our kiddos! Here’s a blog post we did about it:
We only posted a few photos of your cabins but we loved our stay there! South Haven is beautiful! We hope to make it back some day." Thank you @beedalgetty for the kind words and beautiful images, we loved having you all and can't wait to have you back one day!
"Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth." There are certain things in life that leave me breathless and that I refuse to take for granted since I spent so many years not living in the moment and being controlled by others.
If I get the opportunity to experience a beautiful view like this, yes, I’m going to stand and take it in for at least 5+ minutes.
If you ever agree to go with me to a museum of any kind, sorry in advance, because not only do you need to plan on spending your entire day there, we’re going back. I could stare at one piece of art for hours.
You’ve all already heard me rave about my love for live music. I’m like literally in a trance during shows.
There is a time and a season for everything. I lived a long season of being told what to do, how to do it, etc. and wasn’t living for myself. As a result, I spent many a year after that in a cycle of not doing things for myself, but doing things that I felt would please others. It’s toxic and it’s draining.
I’m so thankful that I can now do as I please with the support of those who love me unconditionally. I’ve got so much left to do, experience and explore and I can’t wait to keep up my #shortgalshenanigans 😍

Koda and I spent the morning hiking, and it was such beautiful weather! Temps in the 50s (°F), crisp autumn breezes, and a clear blue sky! 😍 We hiked a new trail today, and even got to sunbathe together on a hill. Perfect day indeed. 💛
Swipe left for after.
It’s that time of the year when the stores get busy & the holiday parties are in abundance.
It’s the time of the year lots of us are feeling sad because loved ones are not around anymore for the holidays or about how much fun it was as a child to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him how much of an angel you were all year.
I just want to encourage everyone, no matter how you’re feeling to hold the people around you close. Go to that holiday party that you’re too tired to go to, make that effort to see your friends over a coffee, take the photo over and over again so that it can be perfect even if your patience have fun out after the 10th one.
It might be a stressful time but it could be worth it to light your spirits up by surrounding yourself with the ones you love & cherish the most. Get out there and fill up your cup!
More photos of the tree hunt to come! ♥️

Hiking season up north has long come to an end but down here we’re just getting started!!
A big part of my botany adventures involve either not finding what I’m looking for, being too early, or being too late. Flowering time and abundance can vary widely from year to year depending on climate, elevation, and other environmental factors.
I’ve been slowly ticking off seeing all of California’s native orchids in the wild over the last few years and I realize that 2019 was pretty much a failure for me. I was too late for these Cypripedium californicum, too early for these Goodyera oblongifolia, and unable to find any of the C. montanum I set out to see. So goes the botanical life.
A little bit of a different view than I’ve seen recently, but, wow, nature continues to amaze me. It feels good to get out and explore new places again! Who’s been to Niagara!? I love it! ♥️🇨🇦 #newfavplace
As soon as I finish two projects, three finals, a discussion board, a google earth presentation, finish Christmas shopping, do some laundry, clean the kitchen and get to the grocery store—I’m going for a hike! I swear it. 😅
Beat the rain this morning with a 4-mile hike at #clevengercanyon with @hikerbabes_sd . Beautiful views into the valley from the top. Someone thought it would be a great idea to bring two metal rocking chairs up to the time in 2005...and they were right! Lovely spot for some views and chats. Now I’m going to change into some comfy clothes and hang out indoors and enjoy the rain.

Did you know that the closer you are to the equator, the faster the sun sets? Thus the farther you are, the slower it sets. So, depending on where you happen to be in the world, catching the sunset from the top of a mountain could leave you hiking down in the pitch dark (not a very good idea), or in the afterglow (excellent idea).
There was about 45 minutes between catching these photos and reaching the car at the bottom of the hiking trail... and 45 minutes was almost exactly how long it took for the last light of the day to disappear.
It was really tempting to stay up there because the sky kept turning different shades of pink and it was SO! PRETTY! But hiking in the dark ain't so smart (especially when it's getting cold), so I had to pull myself away from the views.
It got me thinking what it would be like there in the summer or winter... Anyone ever experienced 24 hours of daylight? Or darkness for that matter? If no, which would you rather experience?
don’t let winter weather stop you from getting outside ❕
Spending time in nature reduces stress and increases over-all health. If you’re feeling those winter blues, don’t be afraid to take a walk in the rain, or do something fun in the snow ❄️👌🏽

When I did my research on how to do the Ha Giang Loop, I was convinced I would end up either dead or arrested by the police for driving without a valid motor bike license. Now I don’t want to encourage reckless or illegal behavior but every once in a while it might pay off to stop worrying and just do!
My experience on the Ha Giang Loop was incredible, the nature was breathtaking and it wasn’t as overcrowded by tourists as many other places. I felt confident in my driving skills and if I didn’t, I didn’t drive that part of the loop. For example, I walked up to the rock in picture instead of driving up on a narrow path.
What is a risk that you took that paid off? Or maybe even a risk you took and failed but that taught you a lesson you wouldn’t know otherwise?
