Cody and I were driving down a road when I saw this beauty fly off out of the corner of my eye. Cody pulled over without me even asking and I shot out of there like a rocket in hopes I could find her without being to loud or startling her.
I went through the woods only a few minutes when I saw a gentleman not to far from me. I slowed my pace as I approached because it looked like he was watching something. As I drew closer, he turned his head and nodded and pointed to a tree a bit out in front of us.
Now, I was in awe of the owl for sure and stood there just watching for a minute. I don’t know. Owls just are special. Can’t you just feel them?
But what he said next was just really cool. He said....why don’t you go first? I’ve got plenty of pictures of her before and as long as you go slow, she won’t move.
I don’t know. I just thought that was so neat that he gave me the chance. It’s like I got her all to myself for quite a few moments before others found us.
Unfortunately, I didn’t find any great grey owl chicks this summer but I spent a lot of time observing chicks last summer and still have many pictures to share! I found this shot in March while editing the files I never got to last summer, and have loved it ever since. This shot was taken right at dusk, and it was pretty dark. The chick sat on this perch for quite some time, so I was able to play around with angles and found a green bush to put in the foreground and I think the result was pretty cool.

Great Grey Owl. This is my first encounter with a GGO, and I hope there are many more in the future. These owls are really stunning and being in their presence feels otherworldly.
I had been looking for this owl for hours when it finally appeared just in time to get some photos before I lost all the light. I followed it through the forest for a while, just completely in awe, so thankful it was sharing it’s presence with me. Then I bid it farewell and a long healthy life.
Great gray owl taking a bow at the vole that got away.
The focus in their eyes is incredible!
Would be awesome to see what goes on in their head, as sound becomes vision.
Last millisecond before taking off it decided it wasn't worth the effort. Incredible !
