~Georgism on the Seas~
~Land, as well as the finite resources in it, shouldn’t be considered private property (understood as an exclusive monopoly). They belong to all mankind, and all mankind has the right to enjoy the fruits that result from it’s use. That is why Henry George (as many other thinkers and philosophers) proposed the Land Value Tax as a single tax: to capture the added value of a certain plot of land given by the improvements near it made by the community, it’s situation, or it’s geographical location, and to return it to said community (in the form of infrastructure or an UBI).
~We can apply this logic to the seas, lakes and other bodies of water: a Sea Value Tax of sorts, in the form of fees charged for fishing, oil extraction, submarine mining, etc. The money obtained can be added with that captured by the LVT and used to provide infrastructure or an UBI.
~Moreover, if technology ever allows us, we could “divide” each square kilometer/mile of the EEZ by the number of citizens of the country, so that each individual can be assigned a certain number of fish tonnes, oil liters, kilograms of ore, etc. And as a result, each individual could then decide what to do with his/her resources: to sell them, keep them and aid in conservation, to exchange or barter, to buy more…
~In order to accomplish this, we need both the necessary technology and to rearrange and reorganize the Armed Forces to be effective in protecting the citizen’s property in the EEZ and defend them from the threats they could face. #environment#conservation#ecology#nature#climatechange#greenpeace#land#freedom#humanity#liberal#libertarian#capitalism#socialism
Waiting for that perfect moment is already procrastinating. Why wait until "the situation" improves when we can start improving our situation right now, right here, this year, only with small changes. One day at a time. 🙆♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are more focused on finding excuses than real solutions and creating this mental war that nobody but ourselves can defeat. 🤯⠀
Let's stop telling ourselves, " I cannot do it because..." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead, let's say, " How can I find a way to make it happen?" 🤔⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mother Earth finds a way to make it happen for us, why can't we find a way to make it happen for her too?🤷♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌍Her happiness is our happiness.⠀
☣Her destruction is our destruction.
🏞Her wellbeing and prosperity are our prosperity too!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why not do good for her, and us too?🏕
