Death Certificate, 2019.
Usually I like to curate my feed while posting photos as chronologically as I can, but I feel the need to clarify some things about this photo after having presented it in class today.
The idea for this photo stemmed from ideas I’ve been having for my long-term project. I’ve had a morbid fascination with death lately which, combined with various identity crises I’ve been experiencing, led me down the path of exploring the killing of our old identities. As we evolve, there are aspects of our former selves that we no longer have any need for or that we feel may no longer represent us or may even hinder our growth. This idea was intriguing to me, as I have a lot of past selves that I’d like to do away with. I never graduated college my first time around and instead I spent 10 years ambling about pursuing dead-end careers that were ultimately soul-crushing. When I applied to art school, it was a very big leap of faith for me. It was me finally taking charge of my life and moving myself in a direction in which I had always wanted my life to go. In effect, I basically murdered my old selves, the “fake Dannys” who thought a career in retail or hospitality or banking was for me. I’ve always known I wanted to be an artist since I was a little kid, and I am finally free to do this after the difficult process of not just letting the past die, but killing it myself, and thus allowing myself to embrace the future.
The imagery was also initially inspired by the album art for @icecube’s seminal 1991 album, Death Certificate, which my photo shares its title with. Mix that in with a dash of Gober and Witkin through the lens of forensic photography and my image was born. #gramoftheday#photooftheday#storyoftheday#personal#shadow#speedlight#foot#forensics#colorphotography#selfportrait#body#identity#createexplore#justgoshoot#instamood#moodygrams#agameoftones#nightmoves#longexposure#flashphotography#thecreatorclass#heatercentral#artofvisuals#primeshots#theIMAGED#weeklyfeature#visualauthority#fatalframes#mood#fa118101
- Missed it cause I was Pottering around -
Ft. @uk.shooters - We visited this bridge twice on the roadtrip and got very similar weather conditions. Both days we had heavy rain, but as luck would have it, 2 minutes before the train came round the bend a beam of light hit the tracks and lit our shots until the train left and the light hid behind the clouds🤯 @jessops@sonyalpha#uks_forthecreators#uk_shooters#uk_ports#sonyalpha
