As the end of February approaches, days working on the water get closer and closer. I really look forward to possibly seeing families like the T46Bs, a member of whom is pictured here.
People often ask whether there is a better time of year to see orcas. The answer isn’t particularly helpful unfortunately. Orcas are an opportunistic species, traveling wherever within a general range will provide them with the food they need. Thus, we can’t really predict day-to-day whether orcas will show up. However, more recent work has shown that certain matrilines seem to have preferences for very general areas (I.e. the Salish Sea or Alaska). I’ve always wondered about what conception of place these intelligent animals. Do they have some sort of map laid out?

I haven't shown my face around here for awhile and wanted let my new followers know what happens around here!
I've mainly been showing my tiny landscape oil paintings in my feed with the odd landscape photo from one of my adventures! This tiny landscape collection will launch on March 3rd and the only collection I have planned for the moment because I have some ideas I'm secretly working on in the background that is taking priority.
I also have paddling inspired block prints on my website and @pacific_arts_market that will help support women in the outdoors and my expedition this summer.
My expedition this summer is my brother and I are paddling the Mackenzie river leaving the end of June! We are both SO excited about this trip. I share a little of our food and gear prep on my stories and as we get closer to the trip my feed will likely be merging into more paddling photos!
