X-influencer @virginie_nguyen_hoang was following Lam, a 21 year old women, for a story about the Christian Hmong of Vietnam and their daily life. Lam visited one of the pastors of her village that lives on the top of a mountain in Vietnam, near Sapa. On the way back, she picked up some dry wood for her house while being 8 months pregnant.

Chapter Thailand: Day 4 - Definitely one of my favorite days here in Thailand. We checked off a few things on our list - Hmong Village, Doi Suthep, river rafting. I want to talk about Hmong Village.

We visited Doi Pui Village, A.K.A. Hmong Village. Our Hmong tour guide, Vabxwm, told us that there are approximately 100 Hmong families that live in Doi Pui. Wow. Growing up, my dad always said he'd take me to Thailand or Laos so I could see how he grew up. Although I didn't come with him on this trip, it was still a very, very humbling experience. I walked into the village and saw a part of where I came from. In my heart, though, I was conflicted.

They've turned this place into somewhat of a tourist attraction and I felt like such a tourist, UGH. The pictures reflect how literally breathtaking this place is - flower gardens everywhere, a man-made koi fish pond, strategic landscaping so you can enter one way and exit another. Just like the rest of Thailand, the people here run a market with endless stalls, selling clothes, jewelry, souveniers and so on. It's common for vendors to try and get you to buy their items, and all I wanted to do was buy something from everyone. Share the wealth. I think as a first generation, Hmong-American, we often feel a sense of sadness or like we want to help those who were "left behind"...because at the end of the day, we'll go back to our soft beds and accessible hot showers without even thinking once how privileged we are just to have these basic things.

But the longer I walked through the village, the more I noticed how many people had motorcycles, how they laughed with one another, how unbothered they were when I didn't buy something from their stalls. By the end of my "tour," I felt a sense of relief. Yes, some of the people who live in Doi Pui still don't have cell phones or air conditioning units, but this is their way of life. This is what they know and I don't need to sit here, wishing I could "save" everyone. They're happy. Tourism brings them wealth and this is the reality of how they are thriving.

I encourage you to see Dou Pui. It's a sight you'll never forget.

Nors niekas nemoka angliškai, apart hello ir net ženklų kalba jiems nesuprantama, kai rodom norim valgyt, suprask: am am am - jie nesupranta, gūščioja pečiais. Tačiau šypsenos, manome, yra vienintele kalba, kurios dėka turėjome galimybę pasimatuoti vietinių spalvotuosius drabužius bei pasivaišinti jų kukurūzais, kurie priminė vaikystę. Today we drove 40 mins outside of chiang mai up to a remote village in the mountains. Thailand has many tribes in the northern part but today we visited the Hmong people. Many of the people speak Hmong, Thai, and some English. With basic Thai I was able to communicate with many of them. Everyone was very kind and welcoming giving me a brief glimpse into a totally different world. This was a experience I will never forget.

Last weekend, my friend and I took the opportunity to explore the Hmong culture in the St. Paul area. First we went to the Hmong Art Fest at the Eagan Community Center, then we went to Hmong Market and then went to Hmong Village. Sono arrivata a Sa Pa qualche giorno fa, convinta di aver visto abbastanza durante il mio loop su Ha Giang.
Sono stata catapulta in questo paesino di montagna a cui manca davvero solo la neve a bordo strada. E ancora una volta le 4 stagioni, la pioggia, poi di nuovo il sole.
Qui convivono sei popoli, sei culture differenti, sei lingue, sei tradizioni.
✨
E lei è Linh.
È una giovane donna H'mong, ha 16 anni e la sua bimba, Zoen, ha appena compiuto due mesi.
Questa mattina, con i suoi stivali antipioggia, ha camminato con me tenendomi per mano su ogni roccia scivolosa. I suoi capelli sono rimasti perfettamente lisci dopo 15 chilometri di salite e discese in mezzo alla nebbia, al fango, ai ruscelli, ai bufali.
Ha il viso più dolce che io abbia mai visto, e mentre sono qui a cena con la sua famiglia e gli altri ospiti della Homestay, mi accorgo di quanto mi fanno male le guance per quanto ho sorriso oggi.

Zoen ci guarda silenziosa dalle spalle di Surelee, la padrona di casa, vi giuro che se non fosse per questi 10° assolutamente inaspettati, vorrei non andarmene più.
