Casey has a love/hate relationship with birds! She loves to chase them, but now that she's blowing her coat for the first time they've been consistently swooping in to steal chunks of her fur. She's definitely getting into the habit of giving them the stinkeye while they sit in the trees above us. How is your dog with wildlife? #wildlandwanderer
Say hello to this pretty lady! This is Izzy, the 8-month old German Shepherd. The owner came to me pretty desperate and in need of some serious help with this very disobedient pup. .
Izzy has wreaked havoc on her owners home. From digging up the entire yard so the irrigation is showing to destroying pretty much everything in her house, the owner has had it. Izzy is the queen of “catch me if you can” and following commands as she pleases. The owner can no longer control Izzy and Izzy doesn’t want to be controlled.
I’ve had her now for 6 days and I’ve realized she’s just like all the other dogs I see in my program - She’s just a punk! 🤣 She’s used to getting her way at all times and has zero respect, structure or boundaries. Needless to say since she’s joined the program, it’s been a rude awakening for her!
In getting to know her over the past 6 days, she has this extremely sweet side and she still is just a floppy puppy. At first she did NOT want to be touched/pet/handled. After several days of doing counter conditioning drills with her, we’re finally at a point where she’s allowing me to pet her and she’s enjoying it. .
Each day she thrives here and Ecollar training her as been a GAME CHANGER in her behavior (thanks God for the Ecollar - seriously 😄🙌🏼) I couldn’t be more proud of Izzy. I know the owner will be ecstatic when she sees the final results of this training. Stay tuned for videos on my story 😍

I ran into a question posted in a group and it made me think about something. The question was "I see people saying that a German Shepherd is a working dog. But what does that mean? I don't have any work for my GSD to do. I don't have anything to herd and I don't need him to detect anything. What does it mean to 'work' my dog?"
I never thought about this before. How many people who aren't in the training world don't understand what it means to work a dog. Working a dog is not a specific task. Working a dog means to challenge a dog. Mentally and physically. Mentally work your dog can be as simple as teaching your dog obedience (I will break down what obedience means in my next post). It can also be taking your dog to unfamiliar environments and requiring them to perform obedience tasks on different surfaces. It can be a game of hide and seek with their toy; take some buckets, make some holes in the bottom of them, put their toy under one and nothing under the other 2, as soon as their nose hits the bucket with their toy, lift the bucket up and reward them. As they become better at the game, add buckets and add variables under the other buckets. These are all tasks that are going to challenge your dog. Physically challenging your dog is far easier. Runs, walks, fetch, obstacle courses. But if you are not mentally challenging and working your dogs mind, you are simply conditioning them to be bigger, faster, and stronger than you with no sense of purpose or direction. The bond you create when you challenge your dog and you see them unlock that potential is far greater than anything you create by allowing your dog to be purposeless and out of control. I hope this helps some of you who may have had the same question and feel free to ask questions!

Status update: Bored.
Going back in for another x-ray on Monday. Hoping we get better news.
On the upside (for me), Mom and Dad cancelled next week's planned trip to Italy. Something about a beer virus 😷.
They're not happy, but I can't say I'm mad about them not leaving.
