Since day 1 of my painting sessions I have been learning how to paint portraits. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This picture I picked randomly from a photography website where we can download pictures with high definitions so we can paint better.
Another morning shot from probably Paris’ most romantic bridge, the Pont Alexandre III - towards Les Invalides. The bridge is decorated with nymphs, winged horses, little angels and was inaugurated 1900 for the World’s fair. This romantic piece of architecture is the perfect photo op pretty much any time of the day, but obviously especially lovely during sunrise and sunset. Le sigh.
Have you ever heard of the Palais Royal in Paris? ❓
No? That's it above - it's one of those places where you might not be super-familiar with the name, but the site itself has become Insta-famous in a pretty mega way! 📸
Go along to this former royal palace (hence the name, as you probably guessed), and former residence of the famed Cardinal Richelieu, and you'll see people posing on the black-and-white pillars. It doesn't matter which time of day you visit; they'll be there!
But did you know that these adorably photographic pillars are actually an art work? And that they were highly controversial when they were placed here in the 1980's? 🔥
The work is called Les Deux Plateaux - although most people call it the Colonnes de Buren - and it was seen as being horrifically expensive, as well as not in keeping with such a historic building. There's still people on either side of the debate!
🤔 What do you think? Do they enhance the building, or distract from it? And do you have a favourite Instagrammable spot in Paris? 🇫🇷

The many passages and “galeries” of Paris have a mesmerizing charme and a huge advantage theses days. I spent yesterday morning on a balade ( stroll ) through the 2nd Arrondissement to see the most beautiful ones. This here is Galerie Véro-Dodat and very close to the Louvre. The perspective you get here is just beautiful, especially since your view is guided by these black and white diamond shapes marble floors. Right at the beginning there is a chic shoe shop that good old Carrie Bradshaw would have loved. But then, sadly, many shops are closed either currently due to the huge summer vacation escape of the Parisienne in August - or indefinitely. I hope new entrepreneurs move in to keep this charming place alive. Oh. And about that advantage: they stay nicely cool. Even on the hottest summer day.

A view is a view is a view is a view. One of the few people I know here in Paris said the other day: I will never get tired of seeing that tower. And I get it. I am living in Berlin since such a long time, my heart will always skips a beat when I see either the TV Tower or the Radio Tower. Both represent my city. For this shot you should be getting up early. This way at around 6:40h this time of the year, twenty minutes after sunrise. Luckily right down this road there is a decent bakery that opens at 6:30 and sells wonderful butter croissants. And you can treat yourself for trying to get this view, this view, this view. And that makes it already une bonne matin.
