Day 1 Bali. One of the warm nights in Uluru, when we were enjoying delicious Australian wine on the balcony, Angie (my co-traveler from AUS/NZ trip) asked us a question: If you could pick any destination you want based on a movie or a book you liked, what would it be? I smiled, cause I literally just lived this experience. I know, it might sound cliche but after reading Eat Pray Love, Bali became a must do! I’ve never been a tropical vacation type but something about Bali was calling my name. I only had 3 nights there before my AUS/NZ tour but they were enough for me to realize that I will be back for more. Although I must admit it didn’t start this way... I arrived to Bali late at night, it was dark and hot... and different. Mind, I just came from Singapore -rich, busy, clean, trendy, million lights... Bali is a complete opposite. I am a city girl... or so I thought when I started this journey. So my first thoughts were “I miss Singapore. Would I actually get to like Bali?!” On my way to the hotel I looked out of the window and Bali looked dark, rather poor, lots of uncontrolled traffic, many dogs roaming around... That’s all I saw at night. I didn’t do much homework for my trip (any part of it!), I just wanted to wake up every morning and be surprised, have that “little kid” curiosity and sense of joy every day. I wanted to remember what it felt like to just be happy for no reason! Which was great - I was curious, happy, excited and amazed daily, but in some way, lack of research made things awkward. 1. I had no idea how far Ubud was from airport or what Ubud actually was like. 2. I didn’t realize that Bali is not all beaches. 3. I was completely ignorant about Balinese culture. No, I didn’t do anything wrong, I learned and adapted fast. I was respectful and open-minded but it felt awkward to be so ignorant. 4. Traffic, driving patterns & street crossing rules were kind of a shock. It is busy here and one’d think an island vibe should be slow and deliberate. Not Bali, apparently. 😂 Went to bed early first night (jet lag was still brutal). Maybe I will like it in the daylight... #bali#whereintheworldisalena#travel#vacation#dreamscometrue#sabbatical

Day 4. Last Day in Singapore. Conclusions. When I was getting ready to go on this trip, the question I was getting the most was “aren’t you scared to go so far for so long absolutely alone?” I am not going to lie, this all was a very new experience to me as I have never traveled alone before. Well... that is if we don’t count the time when I moved across the continent by myself many years ago. Pretty close, right?!😉 So yes, I was a bit nervous but you know what, traveling solo happened to be a great, liberating experience! And Singapore was the best place to get me into a solo traveler mode. I felt safe there. I felt free! Singapore is a unique city and country, it is a futuristic place in the middle of a tropical oasis, all green and blooming, which softens the edges and gives it some extra charm. It kind of reminded me the Capitol from Hunger Games movie, if you watched it. Even some fashion choices were from there. 😂 I enjoyed just walking around, getting lost in the city and its gardens, talking to random people, trying delicious authentic food and just taking the experience in! I was drunk on the freedom of having no alarms, no schedules, no set agendas—just wake up, pick a direction and explore! Everything was new and exciting! Even the heat didn’t bother me at all. This city was my first point of destination on this trip and I am grateful it was as it set a perfect tone. I was constantly in awe mode, couldn’t stop smiling and just was grateful to the Universe that I, a girl born in a small unknown Belarusian town, got an opportunity to see all this. Grateful and Happy are actually 2 things I continuously felt every day of this trip, in every country. ❤️
Singapore is rich, vibrant and always on the go! I want to come back to celebrate a New Year here some time in the future. I think it will be cool! One day... But for now it’s time to leave Singapore cause Bali is waiting... #whereintheworldisalena#worldmeetalena#vacation#travel#vacationmode#sabbatical#pinchmeiamdreaming#singapore#lifeisgood#путешествие#каникулы#сингапур

Day 3 continued. The Supertree Grove. All right, it doesn’t matter what time of a day you come here or whether you are standing right under them or are admiring them from above (balcony of Marina Bay Sands, for example), you will be amazed! I think my jaw dropped once I laid my eyes on them the first time and I picked it up only on my way to the airport when I had to leave Singapore. I can’t even find the right words to describe how cool this creation is! But I will try... Supertrees are unique tree-like structures that were designed to perform an environmental functions - to cool down water, to provide shade, to facilitate planting and of course, as a side bonus, to give us entertainment. There are several of them and their height ranges from 25 to 50 meters, so you do feel like a little kid when you stand underneath. #когдадеревьябылибольшими Even though they are men-made, they truly are like real trees and are able to mimic the natural ecological functions of those (e.g., photosynthesizing). Oh, and check this out! They light up at night (utilizing solar energy collected during the day) and I got to enjoy the Garden Rhapsody — a coordinated light and music show that happens every evening. I just found a spot under one of the trees, laid on the ground and stared with my eyes wide open, enjoying the sound of various pieces of such familiar classical music (Italian opera anyone?). Very unique experience! There are a lot of people there but the magnitude of the trees makes you feel like a teeny tiny grain of sand in a huge world. I did feel a little bit lonely that night but only for a moment... Italian opera must have gotten into me... Day 3: One thing that surprised me about Singapore is that with all its contemporary hi-tech futuristic infrastructure, this city has many green parks. Gardens by the Bay is definitely the largest and most famous of them and since I could see it from the windows of my hotel room, I had to check it out! You could spend the whole day here and still not be done — there’s plenty to explore. Ok, I did go there every day for a little bit, that’s how much I loved it! 😅 What completely blew my mind about this park is that it’s a combination of natural beauty (the plants are real of course) and of hi-tech human intervention to keep the eco system unharmed and to utilize natural resources for the system support & taking care of the flora! 🤓 The Gardens have a little river, multiple sculptures all around its grounds, two cooled conservatories and the Supertrees (they deserve a separate post as it’s a very unique creation!) I did check out both conservatories, which are basically men-built greenhouses with glass ceilings smartly designed in such a way that it minimizes the environmental footprint. Rainwater is collected from the surface to be used for taking care of the plants. The Supertrees are connected to the system and are used to vent the hot air and cool the water 😮 The Flower Dome is bigger and has more plants from different parts of the world (yes, I saw a few Russian garden plants and palm trees from FL and CA). It also had a cool Christmas exhibition at this time, picturing different countries, I spotted Iceland right away😍 The Cloud Forest is a bit smaller but definitely with higher ceilings. It’s designed like a mountain. It had all kinds and types of orchids (national flower of Singapore), alongside with other tropical plants & a huge waterfall (also utilizing collected rainwater! So no wastes!) I left re-energized and in total awe! This is probably my top favorite thing about Singapore... Day 2: Marina Bay Sand. I had to say a few words about this iconic place! This hotel became a landmark of Singapore. If you google “Singapore”, I guarantee that MBS will be on at least one of the top 5 pictures. I stumbled at a pic of this hotel on Instagram about a year ago and ever since Singapore made it to my bucket list. I never thought I’d get to stay at this place though but there I was! The hotel is huge: 3 towers of luxury accommodations, food and entertainment topped with a boat which houses a couple of posh rooftop bars and nightclubs, a Sky Park Observation deck from which you can see the city skyline and a gorgeous infinity pool! The location is really great as it overlooks the Gardens, Marina Bay and is a walking distance to the city center. It’s reasonably priced for the quality you get and just the pool is totally worth the splurge (even I hang by that pool a lot! and you can only use the pool if you are a guest of the hotel). The customer service is superb. They won me over with a sweet surprise and a note “Sorry we missed your birthday”. Mind I stayed there in November, so only a couple of months late 😂 but I sure enjoyed my cake and champagne after a long day of walking around the city. If you are in Singapore just for a couple of days like I was, do yourself a favor and stay at MBS. You won’t regret as there are plenty of things to do. My material girl part was amazed by all the poshness and diversity of brands — anything you can think of was there, I tried like 10 pairs of Manolos ( no, I didn’t buy any but they looked so good 😂🤦🏼♀️). The food options are for any taste and budget, you won’t go hungry. The cherry on the top is Spectra — a light and water show daily extravaganza. It’s free and it’s beautiful so you don’t want to miss it. So far, MBS tops the list of my favorite hotels I stayed at. Oh, and I did try a Singapore Sling. It was ok😜 To Be Continued...
Fear... This paralyzing feeling, cold sweat, dry mouth, uncontrolled shivering, tears, blood pressure goes up... the overwhelming emotion swallows you all and stops you from moving forward. Some fears are reasonable and are there for common sense, to protect us from hazards. Others are just there and we as humans choose whether to dwell on them and let them consume us or face them heads on and destroy them. I heard million of times that “it’s all in your head” but never really dissected the true meaning of this saying. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I am terrified of heights. I lived with this fear for as long as I remember myself. One of my goals for this trip was to stretch myself outside of my comfort zone in many areas and as one of them, face my fear of heights and push myself forward to overcome it through the mind power. This collage is a perfect summary of what was achieved and I am proud of it. Fear no more! Live more, fear less! #подсознаниеможетвсе#mindpower#fearless#conquertheworld#vacationmode#sabbatical#fearnomore#whereintheworldisalena#worldmeetalena
You know what the best part about traveling solo is? Meeting incredible people and making new friends! I have been so lucky to be a part of this cool group of people, each one of them have their own story which I love to learn. We laugh a lot on this trip! Some of these people will become friends for life and this excites me! #travel#vacationmode#friends#travelbuddy#sabbatical#pinchmeimdreaming#australia#whereintheworldisalena#worldmeetalena

This is Portland, baby! As in Portland, OG Weird, vibrant and diverse. These are my 3 first impression words for this city. #vacationmode#worldmeetalena#каникулыбонифация#sabbatical#travel#lifeisgood
