Location: Sanssouci Castle and Park Potsdam Germany
Really worth seeing!
iPhone XS and various apps .
Sanssouci, which means “carefree”, was erected in 1745–1747 by Fredrik the Great as a summer residence. Several members of the royal family inhabited the castle for many years, but after Fredrik William IV of Prussia's death in 1861, it eventually became a museum.
The building is not that big, it only has 12 rooms.
Sanssouci is sometimes called The German Versailles!
In the park, which holds many fountains and sculptures, there are several famous buildings of great historical significance. Among other things, the Rococo style tea house and the Charlottenhof lust castle.
The castle is part of the World Heritage Palace and parks in Potsdam and Berlin.
About 1,500 meters from Sanssouci - in the castle park itself - in the 1760s, Fredrik built the largest of Potsdam's palace - Neues Palais (New Palace). The two castles are joined by a straight road.
That Castle has over 200 rooms!
Since we didn't know how big the park was ... and it was over 30 degrees hot that day ... we couldn't see both castles! Unfortunately, as Neues Palais, looked absolutely beautiful when we drove past on our way from there.
Sanssouci kallas ibland Tysklands Versailles!
The Bagrati Cathedral is a distinct landmark in Kutaisi. It rests on Ukimerioni Hill overlooking the city. It's a steady walk up the hill from the chain Bridge along cobbled streets. The cathedral was built in 1003 and then fully renovated between 2009 and 2012.
Kutaisi is the third largest city in Georgia. Much smaller than Tblisi and so much quieter! As much as we loved Tblisi it was nice to spend a few days in a more laid back city!
A major defining feature of Kutaisi's landscape is the Rioni River. We were there in June and it was flowing so fast in fact I don't think I've ever seen such a fast flowing river.
