Today I didn’t need words to tell me how I’m feeling. I just simply wanted to feel it. Period. 🎹🎶 and Thelonious Monk knows how to perfectly do that. I embarked on this journey with him today because I was craving something with depth. I think I played “I Love You (Sweetheart of All my Dreams)” over and over again at one point 😌 It made me skipped a beat a little...🎶 Monk’s talent and curiosity for music radiates from his piano and it comes through so effortlessly. He played a huge part in modern jazz and bebop, creating and breaking boundaries for artist to come like Coltrane and Sun Ra. His some-what rebellious way of playing enchanted many and made others discover a different side of jazz.
Which brings me to my next point 🎶🎼 The influence Monk had on many Hip Hop artist. I keep learning from both genres and they both always, or in some way, always connect. Monk has been sampled in Gang Star where Guru raps about his style of playing. Wu-Tang Clan also sampled him in their iconic album, 36 Chambers on songs like ‘Shame on a Ni**a’ and ‘Clan in Da Front’. Which shows how versatile and eclectic RZA’s ear was. And of course it shows both of these artist radical way of creating music. Another of my favorite samples are with another of my favorite artist, Madlib alter-ego Quasimoto on one of my favorites songs “Microphone Mathematics” 🎶🎹. I guess when it comes to music, I have way too many favorites 😬💁🏻♀️But anyway, yes, today was all about Mr. Monk and glad to say I discovered and read so much about him it made my day so relaxing. This man was just 🙌🏼🎶
His legacy continues not only through many artists who sample him or play his music but us fans who keep him alive through playing his albums. So today I wanna know what you all think of Monk. 🎹🎶 What álbum do you recommend i get from him next? 🎼🎹🎶😊
Oh man, I’m so excited to post this one today because, I am actually on my way to see them live in concert at the @austin360amp 🌞🌴🎟🍻 311 is one of those bands that have such cool vibe to it. Perfect to listen to them with friends, specially in this hot summer weather! I love that reggae infused rock, it’s like feel good music. You can’t help but just dance a little to it. Back in the day when I discovered them, all I wanted to listen to “I’ll be here a while” and of course “Amber” a song that I now shared with my daughters and let me tell you, that is a trip! lol full circle type of stuff 😄
311 has been around for three decades now and still going strong! So much that they have a new album out! Voyager came out this July 12th 🙌🏼 Have you heard it yet? Did you all like it?
That is one thing I’m excited to hear at the concert. Their new songs. It’s so cool to think how I went from listening to them in my room to now celebrate their music with other 311 fans tonight live😋🌴🍻.
So let’s talk about 311, let’s talk summer concerts. Have you seen them live? What’s your favorite underrated song from 311 that might get over looked by ‘Amber’, ‘Beautiful Disaster’ and such? 🤗

✨The Flaming Lips✨
I love all things weird, all things out of the box 👽 Music that doesn’t fit the mold usually fuels my soul. And with this new album ‘King’s Mouth: Music and Songs’ by The Flaming Lips, my soul is beyond full. Their cosmic sounds combined with earthy tones was probably my favorite thing about this one. Musically their creativity was on full blast. It’s alternative but with a more dreamy twist. You just wanna sit down, put this record on and float all through with the notes coming out of your speakers with this one. It’s a chill vibe, with lyrics of rebirth, death and just the cycle of life. Being happy in the moment and allowing yourself to be sad when need be. 🌙 I love how their lyrics are not necessarily traditional, the way they describe feelings are truly different but beautiful! My favorite song is “How Many Times” where he explains the title of this song, he says “Just keep trying”. It’s encouraging, lively and a bit trippy. Well you can’t listen to The Flaming Lips without describing them as trippy at least once lol 🤪.
I do have to point out another favorite thing that you will find interesting in this album. Is where you will hear Mick Jones from The Clash narrating in almost every song. Quoting something special about each theme of it. It sounds vintage, like the songs very tenderly fade away while he comes out to speak. It’s meant to be heard on vinyl! So what are you waiting for? Check it out and let me know what you all think. Would love to know your input on this one 🤗.
