European style and finishes for this local (to us) kitchen featuring Laminam porcelain benchtops and door fronts, combined with white polyurethane doors and draw fronts.⠀
It’s really interesting that when we think about interior design, we tend to think about the end product or install (i.e. the pretty), and dismiss all the steps that were taken to get to that final product.
We went to see The DeWils Cabinet factory today and got an education on how their cabinets are made. Their attention to detail is incredible, every single cabinet is touched by a person, whether it be sanding, staining or quality controlling... and it all happens in just across the river in Vancouver!
Kitchens are big investments, and while awesome hardware and tile backsplashes are exciting, starting with a quality cabinet is going to make the whole process run smoother give you a higher return.
Anyway, I could write an essay on today’s visit, but for now I’ll just leave these pictures from their factory here... and also notice the incredible industrial lighting!
What’s better than spending a few days at the @rubiomonocoatusa headquarters with the fine people of Rubio, @festoolsedge and working with some great talented woodworkers? The answer is nothing. Nothing is better. I had such a great time learning, getting to know these people and the hospitality of Rubio was over the top. Can’t wait to share more of what we did and learned. Also check out my stories to get more behind the scenes too 🙌🏻
Today was a big day! Beef and Pork Meat pick up for a year+ and got it all into a stand up freezer, and the guest house freezer lol 😆 (help yourself to some fresh 🥓!) My kitchen/living cabinet makeover has started and it’s gonna be gorgeous! 🤗
I’m loving the warm #anniesloan#coco chalk paint color and distressing! @lizsbeautifulthings is doing an awesome job! They work fast and fabulous! I’m happy to finally get this project done and off the books and it’s a wonderful birthday present from my hubby! ❤️ Im inspired to tackle my laundry 🧺 room and my master bathroom and eventually the kids Jack n Jill bath on my own! Chalk paint is so amazing and gives a room so much character!
Bye bye golden wood cabinets! 🥴
Continuing the home 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ posts with our biggest makeover - the kitchen! If you’re new here, I’ve been sharing the spaces in our home to celebrate its 100th birthday this year 🥂✨ We are still obsessed with every detail of the kitchen and with how useful the space and layout is. We cook A LOT and I love to bake, so reconfiguring everything was such a game changer for us!
We lived in this space for a few years before we renovated, which really helped us to figure out what to improve with the layout. The project was always going to be a full gut, so we had the chance to move everything from cabinets to appliances to lighting...definitely overwhelming!
One fun thing we discovered during the demo was an original drain for an icebox, and chimney for a wood burning stove in the kitchen (say what)! This is why I freaking love old homes 🙌🏻

Before & After of the peninsula area.
Ripped out those two upper cabinets on the right and hacked some Ikea shelves mixed with world market decorative branch shelf brackets that I painted gold. My husband built and I painted a faux wood beam. Brass handle pulls and mix and matched the knobs. Scored a used Kitchenaid dishwasher from Craigslist.
So, it’s.....ahem.......what I made Thursday.....I mean #whatimadewednesday ! A day late!
Today it’s all about the room in the house that gets the most abusive, where the most heartwarming moments are made, the Sunday roast, the romantic breakfast, the clean up after feeding the whole family til their belly’s burst with the (food) love you’ve poured into them! The kitchen!! Arguably the most important room in any home!
We l💕ved making this kitchen, we took an outdated kitchen that wasn’t working for a busy family, ripped out, re-designed, re-made every teeny tiny bit until the new kitchen is now bursting with joy! We used up every centimetre of space we could and experimented with funky ideas, like pull out worktops and a sliding bin cupboard, whilst still giving it a bright and airy feel.
I have been looking at new light fixtures for just about everyroom throughout the house. I would like to knock out the sitting room/office, kitchen, and living room soon! Swipe to see a few options...and let me know what you would pick for this room...1, 2, 3, 4, or 5?
I call this job site swag 90’s kid grunge, aka whatever I find at goodwill that fits 😂

Here’s another detail shot from the #whimbrelhouse kitchen, and a peak at the beautiful landscaping from the amazing folks at @bigredsun. The window views throughout the first floor add to the lushness of the space. 📷 by @madelinetolle

Sarah Robertson of @STUDIODEARBORN is taking over our feed today! In case you aren’t familiar with this kitchen design maven, she won IDAs in both our NYC&G and CTC&G competitions this year. Sarah’s dynamic, fresh approach to kitchen design caught our judges eyes, along with her custom kitchen storage ideas. This project is one of her personal favorites with its two toned cabinetry and vintage British vibe. Robertson custom designed this range hood with large corbels that reach to the counter, to evoke an old world hearth feel. A leaded glass window was designed to tie in with other antique elements in this turn of the century colonial revival in Larchmont. | 📷 @Macchiaphoto | #ad#takeover

Yesterday, we talked a little bit about custom features, so to keep that conversation going we thought we would share this custom drawer in this island. This kitchen project has many custom features from the hidden fridge, to the custom cabinets hiding the microwave and coffee maker, to these custom drawers in the island. Custom cabinets and islands truly offer all of the bells and whistles when it comes to your perfect functional design. What do you think of custom cabinetry? Let’s keep this conversation going in the comments down below!
Kitchen makeover 2.0
Done a quick spruce up earlier this year just painting the walls, but using @frenchicpaint on my cupboards and handles has made it feel like I have a new kitchen without the £££.
Swipe for before we moved in picture.
