As a participant in the important Breastfeeding on the Border organization, Mitzi attended the all-day HUG Your Baby program in Texas!
She was a cheerful participant as we role-played a baby's ability to look at a toy, practiced a step-wise approach to comforting a baby, and discussed the challenges new mothers face.
Mitzi was quick to incorporate The HUG into her breastfeeding classes in Chihuahua, Mexico! She and colleagues work tirelessly to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals even in the most difficult of situations. *

Does mood diagnosis impact feeding or formula introduction? Drs. Stuebe and colleagues studied 222 women with and without depression or anxiety diagnoses and when they introduced formula. They found no association between diagnosis of depression or anxiety, but symptoms of depression or anxiety were associated (significantly) with earlier introduction of formula, as was history of childhood trauma, disordered eating, and poor sleep quality.
Why is this important? This helps us identify groups of moms to focus on in encouraging and supporting breastfeeding moms.

Have you heard of D-MER (dysphoric milk ejection reflex)? Most people, and even many professionals, haven’t. But it can make #nursing even more overwhelming, with it’s feelings of #depression and #panic around #letdown . Don’t bear it alone! #breastfeeding ⠀
An article from @scarymommy offers these tips on managing this often debilitating medical condition:⠀
1. Name it- being able to name what is happening to you – will help alleviate some of your fears and stress.⠀
2. Educate yourself. “I would still feel sad, and still cry, but I was able to realize it was something that I couldn’t help, but I could get through. I would still be able to enjoy the times I nursed, even though I was fighting the tears.”⠀
3. Remember that D-MER is a medical condition and what what you are experiencing is not “all in your head.”⠀
4. Many moms attest to the fact that when they are tired, depleted & dehydrated, their symptoms of D-MER are worse. Have a glass of water and a healthy snack with you each time you sit down to nurse. ⠀
5. A study published in the International Breastfeeding Journal found that caffeine and stress exacerbated D-MER symptoms in moms. But chocolate reduced symptoms. (Silver lining?)⠀

Had a wonderful weekend teaching guiding and supporting 17 wonderful trainee doula's. 🧡
This weekend was our second training weekend and we devoted all of Sunday to supporting early labour.
This year's training will finish in December with this group of doulas being accredited and certified in 2020. 🧡

😈Грудное вскармливание иногда может доставлять дискомфорт, особенно, если вы столкнулись с подтеканием молока, и вроде бы все классно, молока вдоволь, ребёнок сыт и здоров, но мокрые пятна на одежде могут серьезно испортить настроение.
💦Подтекание молока выглядит следующим образом: когда вы кормите ребенка (если у вас один ребенок) одной грудью, во время характерного покадывания или как мамы говорят "прилива" молоко капает из другой, а у кого-то даже льется.
☝🏻Это происходит потому что грудь у нас, как известно, парный орган и во время сосания ее ребенком окситоцин выделяется и заставляет мышцы в груди сжимать молочные мешочки (альвеолы), как в правой, так и в левой груди, так задумано природой. Но мы все разные, у кого-то так не происходит, а кого-то с первых дней подтекает и до самого окончания лактации. У кого-то сначала течет, потом перестаёт или наоборот. Это не связано с силой или слабостью сосоков или с количеством молока.
👙Побороть это можно несколькими способами:
1️⃣Подложить под капающую грудь вкладыш и он впитает молоко (по правде сказать я всегда с ними хожу, иногда и просто от жары или теплого чая случается рефлекс);
2️⃣Во время рефлекса приложить палец к соску и "нажать кнопку" на 30-60 сек (правда мне этот метод не помогает, через минуту все равно начнет литься);
3️⃣Носить на груди специальные молокосборники, ососбенно актуально для тех, у кого мало молока и кто докармливает детей сцеженным, потому что при рефлексе окситоцина может довольно много вытекать молока из другой груди, а собрав его в специальный резервуар, можно его использовать жля докорма.
⚅Конечно, все очень индивидуально, у кого-то эта проблема исчезает сама собой, у кого-то в течении всей лактации такая радость, но оба случая нормальны, просто это ваша особенность. И уж тем более это не нужно каким-то образом лечить, хотя существуют женщины, которые с помощью каких-то особых практик добиваются успехов в сознательном сдерживании подтекания, магия??? #lovemilk_подтекание

My only recommendation for this particular pod (this is my first time ever using one) is make it less noisy. There is an open grate on the ceiling of it so it makes the hallway and bathroom traffic echo and loud in here.

Let’s talk chichi milk (.)(.)
So this time around(2nd pregnancy) my milk supply was being difficult major difference from my first time! It took more than days to come in I was being put in a position to have to supplement formula in and the way I roll I just was not gonna give in to that!
Fun fact: my niece has more than enough chichi milk to share and she was nice enough to supply my cataleya with some until mine would finally drop in! Forever grateful 🥰
Well I began to do all I can eating & drinking breastfeeding supplements to help with my milk supply (putting major holes in our pocket) let’s be real lactation products are pricey AF ! .
So why not spend a little less to make yourself MORE!

I am very honored to be interviewed by @tianweisignaturesg to give a testimonial for their confinement food, including new and improved dishes. It is very important for a new mum to focus on recuperating during the confinement period, and to eat the right foods for your breastfeeding and recovery needs.

Potentially Controversial Post || 38 days postpartum after giving birth to twins via csection || 148 pounds, less than my pre-pregnancy weight. || YES, I’ve cared about snapping back. Didn’t realize I did and I didn’t do anything extraordinary to make it happen. Actually, I was “smaller” pregnant with twins than I was with my singleton pregnancies especially by month 8. And so many thought I’d “blow up” by the end of this pregnancy but I didn’t. || I’ve cared about what I saw in the mirror. I’ve cared about how my clothes fit. I’ve cared about what I’ve eaten. I’ve cared about increasing my water intake. I’ve cared. Me. Postpartum bodies are as unique and individual as the Mom wearing them. Don’t shame her/us one way or another. Don’t shame me for caring about “snapping back” in a healthy way. Don’t shame the next Mom for going about her postpartum body her way. But also don’t continue to feed this culture where we tell Mom to NOT care about her postpartum body at all by doing all the healthy things that could make a difference with how she sees herself, feels in her own skin and practices self-care. Wear your belly-binder, corset or body shaper if you want. Get in the gym or exercise at home when cleared. Adapt your diet to include healthy calories and eliminate what might contribute to postpartum weight gain. Try this... per your doc, get started while pregnant! || Moms, women... we’ve gotta be more nonjudgmental and more supportive and more RESOURCEFUL for one another. Don’t dull another’s shine and watch how your tribe and village will open the stage for you to shine as well! XOXO

"So here i am, getting up for my 2 AM pump, groggily walking into the kitchen to grab my parts and find this on the counter! My husband made this 'award' for me! I instantly started bawling lol.
Guys, we work SO hard to provide life for our little ones and if you're like me, you feel largely underappreciated for the HUGE commitment that goes into this. I feel like I'm out here all by myself some days and totally isolated, and some days my husband catches the brunt of it, like bad.
My exhaustion, my discouragement, my beating myself up if i don't pump a certain amount of ounces per day, the guilt for taking so much time away from my other kids to pump, my semi-rigid pumping schedule-it all adds up some days, especially when you feel it is going unnoticed!
I can't tell you how much i needed this right now, i had to share. Keep up the awesome and crazy hard work ladies, in case no one told you today- you're doing AMAZING, keep it UP!""
