There is always a hard way and a smarter way of doing things. A smarter way of physical exercise, in my opinion, is combining strategic body movements with deep breathing. This is exactly what yoga is about and why I like it.
Some of the key physical aspects of yoga are about mastering breathing techniques whilst working the muscles with strategic movements and body positions. Yoga uses isometric exercises which are static positions in the angle of the joint. Without movement, you are working the muscles.
There are other mental and spiritual aspects of yoga, but in terms of your physical body, this is basically what it is. This is why when you are working out or doing yoga, deep breathing is key. I never used to pay attention to it.
Furthermore, too much stress on your body can make you gain fat instead of losing it. Through deep breathing, strategic positions, light movements and stretching, yoga is gentle yet so effective at keeping you fit.
Have you noticed that at the end of a gym workout session, stretching, most people leave thinking that’s not important? I used to be one of them. Don’t make that mistake. You would be missing out. I wish someone had told me this before. Stretching is a key part of your workout if you do it correctly. You are still working your muscles but in a gentler or rather smarter way, by combining gentle movements and deep breathing.
