-What are your favourite places in Moscow?
I adore the Red Square – especially in winter when it’s covered in snow and you can go ice skating. I also love that there are so many amazing museums. I highly recommend the Gulag museum and the museum of cosmonautics.

-What is your top tip for learning Russian?
If you play a sport or have any other hobby try to find a group to join for that activity while in Russia. It’s a great way to practice your Russian while making new friends and having fun!🤗

I’m really impressed with the level of teaching at Liden & Denz but it is also a very friendly and sociable place to learn Russian.

My name is Yusei and this year I finished my Master’s degree in language teaching in Edinburgh, Scotland. Before that I was studying in Japan. At my university there were a lot of Russian exchange students and I also participated in an exchange programme for Russian and Japanese students. I therefore wanted to learn the language because I have many Russian friends and I want to be able to communicate with them in their first language.🤗.

-What do you like about Moscow especially?
I really like the architecture. It’s beautiful and very unique. I also love the metro system in Moscow because the many beautiful stations are like a sightseeing tour in itself. They make commuting more interesting and fun for me.

-What advice could you give to someone who hesitates to learn Russian and come to Russia?
Regardless of what you might have heard Russian people are very friendly. They might not smile at you in certain situations like in the metro but if you get to know them better, they will be one of the friendliest people you have ever met. Definitely try to talk with them.

-What do you think about the school?
The school is very clean and well equipped. You have all the facilities you need. The class sizes are rather small so you can easily communicate with the teachers and other students and get to know them better.☺️.

-Favourite Russian word?
Идеально😏.
The reason why I like this word is because I’m quite a perfectionist. I definitely want to say it often.

Всем привет! I have been studying at Liden & Denz since September and I plan to stay in St. Petersburg for 1 year. I love learning a foreign languages, discovering new places and traveling. I speak German and English. I wanted to learn a new language, so ended up with Russian, because my mom and dad have met in Moscow! That's why Russia has always been so special to me. My main hobbies are Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu. I regularly go to the boxing club also in St Petersburg. 🥋

I love it and I think is has a really friendly atmosphere. Teachers are always helpful and friendly. I'm glad I study here.

Russian is very interesting and beautiful language, but it's little bit complicated. If you want to learn it, you have to work hard. But don't be afraid you can do it! Living in Russia is a very special and amazing experience. It's especially great to live in St. Petersburg❤

Today we would like to show you New Holland Island, one of the most beautiful islands in St. Petersburg!
Edged by canals, and covering an area of 7.6 hectares, New Holland Island was created in 1719 in the time of Peter the Great as a center for shipbuilding. ⚓
You can visit the island every month of the year. Today this place is open to public, and local people come here for great food, art, education and outdoor activities. A stage hosts musical performances, theatrical troupes and movies. During the summer months you can lie on the grass, walk around the green zone, play frisbee, petanque and badminton and enjoy picnics on chairs. In winter when it’s cold outside, you can enjoy the ice rink.
Aside from food stalls and kiosks, there is also Kuznya, the island’s first proper sit down restaurant by day and club on the weekends.
Another important place to see is the old naval prison. This architecture definately worth a visit. The prison is a rounded form, which earnt it the nickname ‘The Bottle’, which is where the Russian expression ‘stay out of the Bottle’ came from.
Here you will find small streetfood cafes, restaurants and coffeshops. The second floor is dedicated to fashion and design with great concept stores. The third floor contains services connected to health and beauty, offering ballet classes, yoga studios and more.🤗

My name is Alexander and I have been studying at Liden and Denz campus in Moscow since September. I decided to come here because I wanted to take a break from my work in Sweden and to experience something new. Also, my mother is Russian and that’s why I wanted to learn the language. I also have many relatives from my mother’s side here in Russia.

- What do you like about Moscow especially?
I really like the fast pace of the city and that it is so big and busy, it also has a lot to offer. I love that the city has many historical places but at the same time is also very modern. It would be great to be able to move to Moscow permanently!

- What advice could you give to someone who hesitates to learn Russian and come to Russia?
If you are considering learning Russian, go for it because it is definitely a very interesting language. Also, it’s amazing to experience Russia itself, the culture as well as the people. You will meet many amazing people and even make friends for life.

It’s a great school and the staff will help you with everything if you have any problems. You will meet many amazing people there. The group sizes are very small and I really like that we talk a lot.

Matryoshka dolls (Матрёшка), also known as Russian nesting dolls, are Russia’s best-selling toys and souvenirs. Everybody knows them, and you can’t leave this country without buying one!
So what is the history behind Matryoshka dolls?🤔 The first matryoshka was carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin and painted by Sergej Maljutin. They were inspired by a doll from Honshu, the main island of Japan. The first matryoshka was introduced to the public at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, where the toy earned a bronze medal. It was the starting point of the matryoshka's popularity.
These Russian nesting dolls are mostly used as gifts, home decorations, and travel souvenirs. Patterns and designs vary from classical to comical, the earliest being local Russian peasants and members of a matriarchal family. Today, matryoshka dolls can be decorated to the owner’s liking. Some of them are made like animals or nature. Some are painted with politicians, cartoon characters, holiday-themed images, or even customized to display owner's family members.
We're regularly carry out Matryoshka doll painting workshop with students at our school. Painting Matryoshka doll is perfect for any family activity or school project. Painting is a great way for both children and adults to express themselves, and unleash their creativity.
Painting your own doll can also teach the importance of why the dolls are treasured in the first place. Perhaps after this activity, you’d get a better understanding of what it symbolizes and the amount of work and effort it takes to made the dolls.

-Tell us a little bit about yourself and why are you learning Russian?
My name is Aline and I’ve been learning Russian at Liden & Denz in Moscow since July. I finished my studies in graphic design in Switzerland this year. Two years ago, I met my current boyfriend who is
Russian and lives in Moscow. I was keen on learning either Spanish or Russian as my next foreign language, as I already know French and English and I learned German at school. So, the timing was
perfect and I decided to come to Moscow.

- What do you like about Moscow especially?
I like that the city itself is so compact and offers everything you need. It’s also very different from Europe, especially the architecture. I really love that.
⠀
- What advice could you give to someone who hesitates to learn Russian and come to Russia?
That all the clichés you hear about Russia are not true at all. You will definitely forget all the stereotypes you have ever heard if you travel to Russia. I also suggest you to try talking to locals, even if your Russian is not perfect. Most of the people will react very friendly and they will be interested in where you come from. I promise you will meet a lot of interesting people.

- What do you think about the school?📚
The quality of the school is very high. I came here without knowing anything besides the alphabet. Now after almost four months I am already able to have conversations with local people. During the lessons we speak a lot and the small group sizes allow you to learn the language very effectively.

- What is your favorite word in Russian? “Коробка” 📦 This is one of the first words I learned and I can remember how I struggled with the pronunciation. I was repeating it so many times but to this day I’m still not sure how to say it correctly.

St Petersburg is a very cat-friendly city. You can find them hiding under café tables, living in museum basements and lurking around the streets.
But there do you know why they are so important to St. Petersburg?
Because cats saved the city! 😼
During the Siege of Leningrad, food supplies in the city were scarce. By 1942, an infestation of rats came, they ate the few supplies that were around and put the city at risk of disease, including the plague. 🐀As soon as the deadlock of the Siege was broken, one of the first orders in St Petersburg was to bring in more cats so that they could continue protecting the city from potential dangers.
The Hermitage has been the home for the Russian royal family, but these days an army of cats still lives in there. These whiskered warriors protect the Winter Palace from mice and rats. For three centuries now, they have been doing their duty, and the museum has about 60 cats in their ranks.
When a serious dose of cat is needed, in St. Petersburg you can find many cat cafes. The ''Soulmate'' cafe @soulmatespb is one of them. This cafe is a unique one, where you can spend time not only with comfort but also with cats. Visiting a cat café is not just about drinking coffee and playing around with its furry inhabitants also you have an opportunity to shelter your Soulmate.🐈 At the Cafe you can play with cats while drinking your coffee, reading a book or playing a board game or just surfing the internet.

Are you ready to try a new recipe? Today we are going to teach you how to cook ''салат Оливье'' (Olivier salad)! This Olivier Salad recipe is quite a unique one. It’s a traditional dish in Russian cuisine which is usually served during New year dinner. The origin version of the salad was invented in the 1860th by a cook of Belgian origin, Lucien Olivier, the chief if Hermitage, one of Moscow's most celebrated restaurants.
Ingredients:
3 small or medium potatoes ( картофель)
4 medium carrots ( морковь )
8 eggs ( яйца )
1 lb bologna (варёная колбаса )
8 dill pickles (маринованный огурец )
1 can (14-15 oz) of green peas ( горошек )
1 – 1/2 cups of mayonnaise ( майонез )
Instructions:
- Cook the potatoes with the carrots in a medium pot just until tender, 20-30 min, depending on the size of the vegetables. Cook the vegetables in their skins. Do not overcook.
- Hardboil the eggs.
- Peel the potatoes, carrots and eggs and cool them completely.
- Drain the peas well.
- Cut the potatoes, carrots, eggs, pickles into small 1/4 inch dice.
Mix all the the ingredients with the mayonnaise.
Enjoy!🍴 .

Udelnaya Flea Market is the most famous market in Russia, due to the abundance of memorabilia from World War II and genuine items from the Soviet era. 😍
Market is situated in the north of St Petersburg, just next to the railway station in the direction of Finland. People of low financial status come here to sell their belongings to earn a extra money. However you can meet here real collectors who share a great passion for ancient icons, coins, books and etc.
The flea market has an area of more than 12,000 sq metres. The market opens at 11am, but many sellers arrive much earlier – competition for places is high.
You can buy everything here! There is a real antique: old books and magazines, paintings. You can find well-preserved vinyl records from the beginning of the last century. Young locals visit this market specifically for second-hand clothes, which are usually sold on cloth placed on the floor. There are also many elderly vendors selling interesting junk and bric-a-brac including old furniture from noble Leningrad apartments.

Nationals of 53 foreign States intending to visit Russia for a short-term stay can now apply for Russian e-visas, much faster and more practical way to obtain a Russian travel authorization than the traditional Russian tourist visa. The e-visa for St. Petersburg is authorized to visa applicants with a validity of 8 days' stay in St. Petersburg, the Leningrad and Kaliningrad region. However, the e-visa will be valid for 30 days to use.

The Red Triangle Factory 🏭 ( Красный Треугольник )
Once a magnificent plant with large industrial area, the “Red Triangle” rubber factory is now forsaken in all its architectural glory. Built already at the 1860s in cooperation with Americans it manufactured rubber products (including galoshes). 😮
Up to the late 19th century the plant was country's monopolist in this sector of the market while, in the 20th century, it was the largest enterprise of rubber goods production in Russia and Europe.
During the World War II more than twenty factory buildings were destroyed, but they were rebuilt after the war. It was hard to keep going without any help from the state, and it was gradually abandoned. Now it stands deserted.
Today the property is a mix of abandoned buildings, small companies offices, garages, clubs and rehearsal spaces for musicians. Mostly it is a decaying wasteland, a monument to industrialization of the city.
These days city activists plan on turning this place into a new cultural hub.
