Magical Loch Lomond | Scotland: This lovely photo was captured on a memorable boat trip from Balloch to Luss. It was a fabulous daytrip especially with the good weather, enjoyed the amazing scenery of Scotland’s Munros from the Loch.
A lovely #Scottish sunset over #LochNess to mark the end of a gorgeous #winter day up here. Got in so much fresh air, mountains, lakes, and trees today 😍 (Even snow - thanks, Dalwhinnie! 😋) Other highlights of today besides seeing the one and only #nessie : following in the footsteps of one of my favourite movie action heroes on Rannoch Moor, drinking in freezing cold fresh air and views that made it all worth it at #glencoe , and hearing tale after tale about the history of #Scotland . Many thanks to @thehairycoo for an incredible tour!
Perspective. Sometimes it’s all just a matter of perspective
“The inclinations to believe in the fantastic may strike some as a failure in logic, or gullibility, but it’s really a gift. A world that might have Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster is clearly superior to one that definitely does not.” -Chris Van Allsburg
What about you? Do you believe in things you can’t see?
Cracked the 35k run with plenty of cow shit reroutes after the river flowed over the trail. Pack of jelly babies and found a lost dog who joined me for a couple of kms. Had to take the shoelace off for a leash 😂🏃🏼 #trailrunning#scotland#lochness
Suicides, Ill-Health and Bad Luck: Loch Ness Connections It was n ot random chance that, in 1899, Aleister Crowley headed off to Loch Ness, Scotland. #deadlive#Scotland#LochNess https://mysteriousuniverse.org/2020/01/suicides-ill-health-and-bad-luck-loch-ness-connections/

Presents, Urquhart Castle, 🏴
The present ruins date from the 13th to the 16th centuries, though built on the site of an early medieval fortification. Founded in the 13th century, Urquhart played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. It was subsequently held as a royal castle, and was raided on several occasions by the MacDonald Earls of Ross. The castle was granted to the Clan Grant in 1509, though conflict with the MacDonalds continued. Despite a series of further raids the castle was strengthened, only to be largely abandoned by the middle of the 17th century. Urquhart was partially destroyed in 1692 to prevent its use by Jacobite forces, and subsequently decayed.
Subsequent plundering of the stonework and other materials for re-use by locals further reduced the ruins, and the Grant Tower, seen in my pic, partially collapsed following a storm in 1715.
By the 1770s the castle was roofless, and was regarded as a romantic ruin by 19th-century painters and visitors to the Highlands. In 1884 the castle came under the control of Caroline, Dowager Countess of Seafield, widow of the 7th Earl of Seafield, on the death of her son the 8th Earl. On Lady Seafield's death in 1911 her will instructed that Urquhart Castle be entrusted into state care and opened to the public.
Historic Environment Scotland is managing the site
It is now one of the most-visited castles in Scotland.
I love to take the short boat ride over Loch Ness when visiting there. It's the best way to see the dimensions of the castle. In its days it must have been an impressive sight. 📸 | @blondearrround ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ #urquhartcastle#scottishhighlands#lochness#highlands#urquhartcastle#clangrant#clancraigy#scotlandsites#lovescotland#lovegreatbritain#scotlandhistory#scotlandscenery#castleexploring#castlehunting#scotlandsites#scotlandlove#scottishcastles_#scottishcastles#castlesinscotland#castles#fairytalecastle#epic_castles#scotlandcastles#castlesoftheworld#lovecastles#castlelovers#worldwide_castle#europecastles Posted @withrepos
