Welcome to England ’95 # 11
During the spring of 1995, it would not have been unusual to find me hanging around outside two of London’s premier tourist destinations (Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London) where I worked on one of the projects for my final degree show. In this, I identified and photographed Canadian and American tourists for a much larger body of work about North American influences in the UK. The idea was to picture them in a way that visitors would have in the past using cameras like Box Brownies, so to get a similar feel, I bought a small budget TLR camera similar to a Lubitel that had a plastic lens. The results were varying in quality, and getting the focus right was a bit hit and miss - especially as the screen was also plastic and the camera only had three basic apertures; however, this echoed the look I was after. Somewhere I have a notebook recording details about the people in each portrait (where they came from, what they were looking forward to seeing the most etc.) but unfortunately, that will be buried deep in the attic. From memory several of these were published in ES Magazine a year or so later, and looking through the images I wonder what happened to all the tourists, some of whom are probably no longer with us.

Interrupting Thailand content for this look from London Fashion Week in @innikachoo (on sale, will link in stories!) with @visitlondon. I haven’t done a Fashion Week in years because honestly I fell out of love with it, but this season reminded me of why I wanted to go into fashion in the first place: the adrenaline when the lights go down before the models walk out, rubbing shoulders with people you’ve admired since day dot, feeling like an absolute imposter but knowing that 15 year old me dreaming of being head honcho at Vogue would (hopefully) be proud. Unironically feeling hashtag blessed, normal less sentimental content will resume tomorrow..
London at dusk, the most pleasant moment of the day to walk alonside the Thames River. The best place to stop rushing and start dreaming 💫
If you close your eyes and imagine a place, where it would be?
