Ball pits are always lots of fun - especially one that is at the bottom of a spiral staircase and fills the basement 😬
P’s face quite literally lit up as soon as we got down to the bottom 😍 With a massive grin across his face, he picked up the balls one by one, and made attempts at saying “ball” each time. Since we have no stairs at home, he also loved that he could crawl up and down the spiral one here endlessly 🙈 M enjoyed splashing amongst the balls just as much, and the two of them 😍loved sitting together on the mats, for row row row your boat 🚤 We enjoyed upstairs too, where we made lots of noise on the play stove, poked screws (and our fingers 🙈) into the workbench, and cuddled up for stories. Not the biggest of stay and plays, but it sure is cosy and sweet 🥰

The First 1000 Days. The time between conception and a child’s second birthday where a physical and mental foundation is set. The time when early habits and 80% of the adult-sized brain is formed. The idea behind the First 1000 Days felt so much bigger in the UK. It was really a focus. I was given so much literature on the topic which definitely shaped me as a new, first-time parent in England. I have heard the First 1000 Days mentioned here, on Instagram actually, but never in a doctor’s office. Perhaps the US focus is more on actions—actually going to the pediatrician and discussing the child’s needs and diet on a more regular basis, while you may never even meet a pediatrician in the UK. I’m not sure, but what I do know, is my focus for the first two years was about forming good sleep habits, which I’ve discussed prior (see my sleep post), offering a variety of foods while limiting sugar (she had her first taste on her first birthday and then pretty much not again until her second), and setting screen time boundaries. Now that she is approaching three, I really see that those restrictions and child-rearing efforts have paid off. I am obviously really into baking, and find it so important to get my daughter involved in the process to understand and appreciate food. I also know that restricting sweets can have an adverse effect on children and adults, so, now, we indulge occasionally. As for TV, when she was younger I had a no TV before 3:00PM rule. This meant that if we were out and about it wasn’t an issue, or often she would forget it existed, so we could go a week without turning on a kids show. Once she stopped napping, though, we shifted TV time to earlier and have made it a daily activity during the baby’s nap. We watch from 1:00-2:30—just enough time to watch a movie, give our bodies a rest, and continue learning how to have a healthy relationship with something that has such a potential to be abused. We call it our “cuddle time.” So now, thanks to our foundations, we had a slice of the pie we made together, watched Frozen 2, and are now going on with our day! 🥰 What were your main focuses in the First 1000 Days? Any restrictions?

@fortnums is a confectionery, tea salon, culinary trendsetting joint where the charm of the early 19th century is still maintained.
The goodies from here are pure joy!
The preserves, fudge, the Chocolossus cookies which are so big that even though one bite is enough, you can’t really stop at that.
And the Cherriolosus cookies, they taste like the Blackforest cakes we’ve all loved growing up!
They recently introduced the fourth kind of chocolate, Ruby, which is naturally sweet and tangy, and it is such a surprise to taste it and feel renewed.
Who knew that there were more things to discover in the world of chocolate?
This lot seems big right now but it won’t last for long 😅 #fortnumandmason#foodporn#potd#botd#londonbaby#sweetreats#eatthis#topknotandkeys#foodblog#lifestyleblogger#happiness
