Today’s thoughts: travelling.
‘Travelling’ used to be such a wholesome endeavour when I was younger. We didn’t have money to go far away, so the excitement of summer was booking a caravan near the coast. (𝙸 𝚜𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚎 𝚠𝚎 𝚕𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚍 𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚘𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚌𝚘𝚊𝚜𝚝, 𝚜𝚘 𝚠𝚎’𝚍, 𝚎𝚛, 𝚐𝚘 𝚟𝚒𝚜𝚒𝚝 𝚊𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚌𝚘𝚊𝚜𝚝 😬)
My concept of travel evolved over time, as I earned my own money and as the pace of society overtook. Suddenly travelling ‘at home’ wasn’t cool anymore.
Is everyone else glad that travelling at home has made a comeback? There’s now a certain merit to learning all of the nooks and crannies of your surrounding area. This is definitely something I’ve been feeling since moving to a new country — and I’ve realised, 11 months on (has it really been that long?), I’m still every bit a tourist here.

Been craving the beach and sea for the whole of lockdown but our nearest seaside is full of people. So, me and the husband took an all too brief trip to the Northumberland coast and although the weather was forecast to be awful it was like this..... feeling much restored after a change of scenery, some sunshine and dipping the toes in the sea!!!
All the pretty corners 🌳🍃 I’m so in love with Cotswolds! Can’t wait to return there and explore again 🗺🚐 Do you have any travel plans around the UK or abroad, when non-essential travel ban is lifted?

On Friday, we have visited @castlefarmkent near the pretty village of Shoreham in North Kent. This was our second visit, first time it was three years ago when we came to do a lavender tour and learnt the difference between lavender and lavandin, tried lavender ice cream and lavender lemonade for a first time.
This year tours or massages in lavender fields are not available, but instead you can do lavender field walk or lavender picnic. You can also buy local produce in the shop online or drive through to collect your order at the farm. Do check their website for booking 😉
Castle Farm doesn’t have just lavender fields, it is 1100 acre farm with crops of wheat, barley, rapeseed, hops, apples, pumpkins and a grass-fed herd of beef cattle! @castlefarmkent are the largest producers of Lavender in the UK, with a specialised distillery on site (which we visited as part of the tour three years ago) and famous with growing Hop Bines used for interior decoration! 💜

I said on stories this morning that this 4th of July feels bittersweet partly because we can’t really celebrate, and that’s true, but it’s also that “celebrate” doesn’t feel like the right way to do it. There are a lot of things that need to change in America for us to live up to the ideals of “liberty and justice for all” and recognizing that doesn’t mean you don’t love your country. Patriotism and blind nationalism are not the same thing. So just a reminder: you can live abroad or be a vocal critic of your government or reject the tri-colour Jell-o shots and still be proud to be an American. Whether you are spending today celebrating or reflecting, I hope you have a wonderful time 🇺🇸💕
PS – I didn’t have a photo, or this caption, planned for today but I chose this because Scarborough Beach really reminded me of south Alabama in the 90s. Looking at it gives me a bit of nostalgia for childhood summers in America and Independence Days with feelings that were less complex 😂
Giveaway 🌟💫⭐️ Just because it is 4th July today and not only Independence Day, so many places are re-opening today or in the coming weeks! It’s very exciting, but do remember to look after yourself and others, stay safe!

🇬🇧 Bunting AND a wreath??
Door porn at its finest!!
I wonder if the people who live here have a diet that consists of jugs of pimms and big slabs of Victoria Sponge. They only watch TV shows with Stephen Fry in it and the radio plays @bbcradio4 ‘The Archers’.
