You will never be broke if you pay yourself first by putting money in your savings and investments every time to you get paid or get a chunk of money. Why give your money away to bills and stores and have nothing left for yourself? Be smarter with your money, and put money away every payday 😁👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #payday , #savingmoney , #savingsgoals , #payyourselffirst
Spent MLK Day at the local parade training teens on how to be social and spread awareness about Obamacare to sign up uninsured people for much needed health insurance. I’m looking for more teens who are outgoing, talkative, independent, reliable, self starters especially for the summer, which will be here before we know it😉👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #affordablecareagency , #obamacare , #teensandmoney

It was so rewarding meeting with this couple and educating them about wealth and retirement and then evaluating their finances and giving them suggestions for their budget, debt, credit and home buying goals.
I had so much fun sharing money lessons and quizzing teens about money habits this morning at my sons’ school, Mandarin High.
I think my advice changed the course of many of their lives so they avoid the financial mistakes many adults. Several of the teens told me their parents or older siblings struggle with money. I told them each to share my flyer with their parents and get my books available on www.missmoneysense.com #missmoneysense , #youthandmoney , #moneymanagement , #whatmymomtaughtmeaboutmoney , #financialsecurity

If Prince Harry and his American wife Meghan can quit the royal family and their riches to pursue financial and personal independence, what’s stopping you from quitting your job to push for financial and time freedom? 🤔
The Royals have far much more to lose than you. On a smaller scale, I quit a job where I had just earned $135,000 in a year. That was 7 years ago. I have earned $250,000 in the last 24 months, and in 2020 I’m going to earn $250,000 and push even harder to get to more than $300,000 in profit before the New Year’s ball drops again✊🏾 Everything you want in life is outside of the confines of where you are right now. Break out💪🏾👊🏾😁😊 #missmoneysense , #100jobfree , #financialfreedom , #legacy , #fireyourboss

The first week of 2020 is a wrap. 51 more weeks to go in the first year of a new decade.
So have you created an actionable plan to reach your financial and professional goals in the next 12 months or at least in the next 60 months? Do you have measures in place to track your progress along the way and built in rewards for reaching certain milestones?
I’m not the most organized person. In fact, I have undiagnosed ADD😆 But I have the mental blueprint of what I have to do to reach at least $250,000 this year and $3.5 million in the next 5 years. (I probably should write it down🤓) And I know what I have to do to stop talking about losing 60 pounds and actually get it done this year. I also understand the sacrifices I have to make, and I have set up rewards for myself as I reach milestones.
If you don’t have a plan for reaching your goals, what are you waiting for? How will it ever happen? It starts with a vision.
I had a clear vision about my future when I realized continuing to be a journalist was going to keep me away from my children on the weekends covering sports and it would keep me living paycheck to paycheck. So I quit and made a new path and worked my butt off daily, and my life now is better than I could have imagined. 7 years of job freedom. More savings and more family trips than ever🥰
I made A LOT of sacrifices along the way, and it built my faith and mental strength. I’m a better person.
So get motivated and get focused. Have a vision for where you want your life to be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, and 20 or 30 years when you’re completely retired. Don’t be among the majority who are broke or poor in retirement🤨
All of this may be overwhelming so just think about what you want to accomplish this year and build from there. You have an entire new decade😉
Your goal might be to earn an extra $10,000 this year or to lose 20 pounds. So you need to find out what you can do to bring you an extra $1,000 a month. Also figure out a plan to lose 1-2 pounds a week to reach your goal in 10-20 weeks.
Credit has always been my kryptonite. I know how to earn lots of money 💰 without having a job, and I know how to save my money 🏦. But over the last decade of me educating 📚people about their finances💵, credit was the one area I was clueless about because I always paid someone else to fix it. I knew how to build it but not how to repair it after it’s broken.
That changed after I paid a networking marketing company to fix my credit a year ago and I got the app alert that my score dropped by over 100 points while I was driving through the San Diego mountains⛰. Then my oldest son, who was in the back seat and who I taught how to build good credit when he was 19, challenged me to fix my own credit. He has an 800 plus credit score😁👍🏾 And here we are, I’m at a 667 credit score with one company and a 614 with another company as I continue to learn what is required to have a good credit score. And I challenge each of you to figure it out too instead of passing it on to someone else or some company to fix it cause you’re just going to ruin it again. But if you learn what it takes to fix your own credit, you will be able to maintain it.
I have been using the FREE Credit Karma app to understand what it takes to have good credit and to make disputes, settlements and payments. Plus I use it to monitor my credit score. It has fallen a few times for opening new credit or for having a high balance or for an old collection popping up. And I learned from those downs and I am looking for to my score continuing to soar.
It’s a new year but it will be February and then spring and summer and then the holidays all over again really quick. Time does not stand still and wait for you to get your ducks in a row. So go. Get moving. Get things done. Don’t procrastinate. Make progress toward your goals to have a life by your design by 2025 or 2030😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #timemanagement , #goalssetting , #newyearsresolutions

This is more proof that Credit Karma works. Don’t pay someone to fix your credit. Learn how to fix your own credit so it doesn’t get jacked back up because you didn’t learn how to build and maintain good credit.
A couple weeks ago, an old Verizon Wireless bill from four years ago appeared on my credit report. So I called the collection agency immediately and negotiated that I only pay $350 instead of the full $607 balance under the condition that the agency would report a $0 balance and remove the collection from my credit. In a week’s time, the collection has been removed and my credit score has shot up 22 points.
Each time you get a collection removed, your credit score can jump up 20-25 points. So for example if you have 5 collections, I recommend you get them removed to increase your score by at least 100 points. You should dispute the ones that are 5-7 years old and settle the newer ones or set up a monthly payment plan.
Also pay your credit card and store card balances down to 20% or less of the total limit and that can raise your score another 50 to 100 points.
I can’t wait to get my credit back to the 700s and then catch up to my oldest son whose credit score is in the 800s.
This just goes to show no one has everything together. We all have a weakness. I know how to earn a high income, how to protect it, how to budget and how to building my savings and investments. But maintaining good credit has always been my shortfall. I knew how to build new credit, but not how to fix it once it’s damaged.
Now, I know how to build credit and how to fix it from personal experience. I hope you decide to take control of your credit so you can build and maintain a good credit score 😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #goodcredit , #creditscore , #badcredit , #fixingcredit , #creditrepair , #creditkarma

CBS News recently reported that 79% of parents are providing some financial support to their children ages 18-34. That’s because parents and teachers aren’t preparing children for the real world by providing financial education.
Only four U.S. states require financial literacy to be taught in schools. So I’ve taken it upon myself to teach youth about money management through my books and Youth Sense workshops.
Today, I took my 15 year old son to one of his banks to deposit some of his Christmas money. I showed him how to fill out a bank deposit form, and I encouraged him to put some of the money in his savings account. I also have shown him how to keep daily track of his money and his bills on a bank app. And I just hired him for one of my companies and I advise him on his own business so that he understands how to earn an income and how to manage it.
Parents, please teach your kids about money management. I taught my 26 year old son the importance of saving some of each allowance, financial gift and paycheck when he was a child. I partnered with him in business when he was 12 and we are still partners. I taught him how to build his credit before he moved out at age 19. He hasn’t needed me financially since and he has excellent credit and six figures saved.
Follow my lead so your kids aren’t a statistic and can run their own stable household. Considering buying my books What My Mom Taught Me About Money and Mom’s Money Lessons. The latest versions are available on my web site, www.missmoneysense.com, and if you know of a leader in a youth church group or youth community group, have them reach out to me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying,”People overestimate what they can accomplish in a year, but they underestimate what they can accomplish in 5 years.” In other words, we expect to accomplish a lot in a year and get discouraged and quit. And don’t realize it takes a few years of consistency to achieve your dreams.
It’s because we live in a microwave society where people want overnight success or to get rich quick.
However, success takes consistency and time. So do not make bold goals for 2020 that you realistically can’t reach. Set bold, scary goals for the life you want by 2025 or 2030👌🏾 Use these last few days off before the new year to set bold 5 and 10 year goals, and figure out what sacrifices and changes you need to make and what steps you need to take in order to achieve your ultimate goal by 2025 or 2030. And pause to celebrate the little milestones along the way.
If you take the long term approach, you will have less disappointment, and you will stick to your goals.
After 6 years of being broke in my journalism career, I set a goal to earn $70,000 a year in a new field. I committed to adopting new skills and putting in the work everyday. I achieved my goal in 4 years. Then in 3 more years, I reached a six figure annual income and realized I can work for myself and make just as much money without the stress. It took me 5 years to get back to six figures a year from home.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and Noah’s arc wasn’t finished in a year. Greatness takes time and consistency.
So I encourage you to give yourself 5 years and maybe 10 to achieve your ultimate goal. I’ve set a 10 year goal for the millions I need for retirement from my businesses. Plus I’ve built in milestones along the way to monitor my progress and keep me on track for my 10 year plan. By the way, I’m not an organized person. But I am goal oriented and a hard worker😉
I challenge you to set some bold long-term goals like when you declared a college major, and be disciplined to sacrifice and take the necessary steps to achieve your goals or else you get discouraged and end up in the same place when another decade comes in 2030.😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #goals , #newyearsresolutions
Most parents are spending their hard earned money or going into debt to make sure their children have a good Christmas.
But I challenge you to turn your children into assets instead of liabilities, and focus on experiences and not gifts because most people remember moments and not presents👌🏾 I have two sons. A 26 year old that I had in high school and a 15 year old I had a year and a few months before I turned 30. Sometimes they get a present for Christmas and sometimes we leave town and create experiences as we did for Thanksgiving.
My oldest son has excellent credit and six figures saved and invested. He’s been my business partner since he was 12 years old. We combined for more than $400,000 in take-home profits in our 13th year in business together and our sixth year as fulltime entrepreneurs.
So I encourage all of you to teach your children to earn their own money and to build excellent credit by keeping their balances low (10-20% or less). So you can focus on creating memories and legacy instead of worries and liabilities. If you need guidance, buy my two books to read with your children, teens and young adults on my personal site, www.missmoneysense.com 😁👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #moneymanagement , #assets , #liabilities , #debtfree , #credit , #sixfigures , #sevenfigures

Don’t go into debt and spend all of your money on Christmas. It’s only one day. Meanwhile a whole new year and a new decade — 10 more years, is upon us. So enter the new year ahead of the curve and most people who are blowing their money over the holidays. Take time to figure out your financial goals and start positioning yourself to have more saved and invested in the upcoming year in order to be on track to the life you want by the time a new decade arrives in another 10 years. #missmoneysense , #christmas , #christmasspending , #moneymanagement

I visited my high school to complete paperwork to teach money management to adults in the community, and one of the counselors said I may also be able to share financial literacy with the school’s graduating seniors. My vision is that every teen in the world is exposed to Money Sense to avoid the many financial mistakes adults make. #missmoneysense , #financialliteracy , #moneymanagement , #teensandmoney
Banks have more money than we do, and they only lend money to people who have a good track record and the means to pay back their loans. So if you want to have millions in assets too, you should act like a bank when lending money. Consider your friend or relative’s track record and their earnings and make an executive decision on whether they can pay you back. And never loan an amount that it would hurt you financially if you aren’t paid back😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #personalloans , #loaningmoney , #moneymanagement , #borrowingmoney
I like to be transparent. I didn’t become an overnight success. I didn’t come out of college understanding how money works. And I’m still a work in progress, especially when it comes to mastering credit.
I am so glad my oldest son and another young man told me NOT to pay a credit repair company to fix my credit. They told me to work on my own credit for FREE through Credit Karma.
Initially I didn’t listen and I paid a popular credit repair network marketing company to fix my credit, and it dropped my score 130 points while I was driving through the mountains of San Diego in January. I almost went off a cliff when I got the alert on my phone. I was so shocked and angry.
So I decided to take the advice of my
oldest son, who happened to be sitting in the back seat when I got the alert. I began using Credit Karma to master my credit.
It’s been 11 months, and I’m so glad I decided to take control of my credit health. Because now I understand how credit works and how to use it properly to never ever abuse it again and to maintain a good score that will continue to climb and get into the 800s like my 26 year old who I taught good credit habits to when he was 19 years old but I didn’t follow my own advice.
So I have included pictures of my score when it dropped due to the credit repair company almost a year ago and where my scores are now that I have learned how to build good credit and maintain it. I’m still working on my credit to raise my scores just as I will continue to hustle to raise my business income from six figures to seven figures.
Here’s a bonus tip: keep your credit card balances below 30% of their limits if you want a good score. If you want a great score, keep your balances below 10%. For instance, if a card has a $1,000 limit, only charge $100. Anything higher than 30% or near or at the limit is bad!
I hope this inspires those of you who also struggle with credit to learn for yourself instead of paying a company. Credit Karma is FREE. If you keep paying someone else, you will continue to struggle with credit. Take responsibility for your credit 😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #goodcredit , #creditrepair , #badcredit , #creditkarma

If you recently purchased a home or started a business lease or opened a new location, you should have your big investment secured and monitored by the no 1 or no 2 security monitoring companies in America: ADT and Vivint. I have ownership in both, so I have the ability to give you a reasonable price for installation. I just gave a great deal to a lady who opened her second hair salon and needed four cameras.
You also should consider mortgage protection and key man insurance. Mortgage protection can pay off the house if you get a major illness or if you die. Key man insurance can compensate you when a key employee or business partner dies.
I’ve had many fears, but I never let them stop me, except when it comes to jumping out of a plane or off a building☺️ But for the most part, I move past my fears by relying on my faith and God has never let me down. You don’t need to pay someone to repair your credit. You can fix it yourself.
A decade ago, I paid a company to fix my credit & it helped & I was able to qualify for what I wanted. But then I quickly fell back into bad credit because I didn’t know how to maintain good credit.
So when you pay someone to fix your credit, it can get broken again if you don’t know what it takes to have good credit.
Included are some helpful photos Credit Karma posted on my FREE account today. They show how your credit can rise & fall based on how you handle your debts.
The 1st photo shows that your credit score can drop 38 points with just one late payment. Payment history is the No 1 factor in your credit score, so never make a late payment. Get on autopay to prevent late payments.
The 2nd photo shows that removing a collection from your credit report can boost your score by 23 points. So if you remove 4 collections, your credit will shoot up by 100 points. You can dispute the collection on Credit Karma to get it removed if it’s 7 years old or more or call the collection company to negotiate a settlement to pay a lesser amount & get it removed from your credit report.
And lastly, keep your card use low & your credit score can rise by up to 7 points every time you lower your balance. Card use is short for card utilization, which means the percentage of available credit in use. This is the No 2 factor in your credit score. Creditors & loan officers want to see your credit use at 30% or less & preferably under 10% for excellent credit. For instance, if you have $3,000 available between all of your credit card accounts, your balances should total $900 or less for a fair credit score but if you want an excellent credit score, pay off your balances or keep them around 10% or less, preferably $300 or less in this example.
I hope these tips help. They actually come from my FREE Credit Karma account. So if your credit needs work. Step up and fix it yourself. Get a Credit Karma account and start working on making payments on time, paying down your credit cards and removing collections and watch your credit shoot up and keep it there😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #creditrepair , #creditscore

I love Monday’s. That’s a big change in mindset for me because I hated Monday’s when I had my last job 6 years ago. Even though I earned over $100,000 a year, I hated waking up early Monday and fighting rush hour traffic to get to an unnecessary morning meeting. Now that I’m jobfree, I’m enjoying the time freedom to wake up when I’m finished sleeping, skipping rush hour and choosing when to work toward my weight loss and financial goals. What are you going to do to prepare for retirement? Are you going to only rely on a monthly Social Security check that is on average less than $1,500 a month and expected to shrink by 25% for Generation X if it’s still around when we retire in the next 15-20 years.

Happy 26th Birthday to my first born Darian. He motivated me to change from an irresponsible teenager to a responsible overachieving adult. And he changed my perspective when he walked into the Tallahassee Democrat newsroom (at 5 years old as in this photo #tbt ) and he told my fellow journalists that he wanted to be a boss when he grows up. A few years later, he taught himself computer coding and I discovered that there was no pension being a journalist and that Social Security was in jeopardy. So I made a decision to partner with my 10 year old son to become a business owner. Now 16 years later, we are still partners and each earn six figures a year and enjoy unlimited time with our family to do whatever we want. I don’t know where I would be right now if I wouldn’t have given birth to this inspirational soul when I was still a child. His birth is a gift that keeps on giving🙏🏾😍🥰🤩🥳🎂 #missmoneysense , #iraisemen , #happybirthday , #virgo , #firstborn , #worldchanger , #teenmom , #mothersandsons , #birthdayshenanigans , #inspirationalstories
Champions don’t make excuses. They make things happen. Like this young lady in blue. She is finishing up her doctorate in pharmacy and her residency. Yet she has taken on the task of getting licensed to assist people with health insurance, life insurance and financial services. She’s caught on so fast in only two weeks of me mentoring her, and tonight she got almost a dozen of her friends online with me so I could teach them How Money Works. She is just getting warmed up. I’m so excited to be coaching her and her take-action mom😊👍🏾 #missmoneysense , #100jobfree , #howmoneyworks , #financialliteracy , #wealthwave , #insurancecareer
Life Insurance Awareness Month is drawing to a close. Make sure you have life insurance. If you can pay $200 a month for car insurance and $400 a month for a car that you won’t have 5 years from now, doesn’t it make sense to pay for insurance on your long life? That will continue to pay the bills (car note, car insurance, mortgage/rent, cell phone, internet, electricity) when you or your loved one dies? Contact me to get the correct type and amount of life insurance that fits your budget👌🏾 #missmoneysense , #lifeinsuranceawarenessmonth , #finalexpenses , #legacy , #wealthtransfer , #lifeinsurance , #termlife , #wholelife , #universallife
Everybody has been sad or fearful at some point. It’s normal. But don’t dwell in hell. I used to be stressed, depressed and hopeless. But 5 days a week, I got up and embraced my fear and 2 days I allowed myself to be pitiful. And at the same time, I was a top producer and changed my sons’ lives and had a home built for us. I literally faked it til I made it by hiding my fear but speaking to it daily for four years until one day I snapped out of it and flushed my meds down the toilet for good. That was 8 years ago after four years of fighting the stress, depression and anxiety. Now I am never depressed although I have my moments of being emotional. But I snap out of it by speaking positively to myself and just letting it go cause I understand that I can’t control everything although I can do all things through Christ who truly strengthens me. And now I run 2 thriving businesses and have 2 that are growing. The goal is to go from a casual six figures to multiple seven figures so I can completely retire in 7 years. I also mentor others all around the country so they can get past their fear to prosper. Since I passed the grueling test, I have a testimony, and I hope this helps somebody😉🙏🏾 #missmoneysense , #embraceyourfears , #dontdwellinhell , #bepositive , #talktoyourself , #encourageyourself , #depressionisreal , #dontkillyourself , #thistoshallpass , #100jobfree , #sixfigures , #sevenfigures , #fromstresstosuccess
