The 2020 school year begins THIS MONDAY! What classes are you most excited for? 🍏🎉
Shout out to this amazing young lady! The girl who took a zero on an assignment because she didn't want to present in front of her class, wrote, memorized, and presented a speech for an audition for the mock trial team at OU! And...she got a spot on their number 1 team as a prosecution witness! Her first competition is October 19-20 at Ohio State. I am so very proud of her and I am beyond excited that she gets to be part of something she is so passionate about. ❤💚 #ouohyeah 💚 #bobcat#mocktrial#sheisgonnachangetheworld#myheartisfull#overcomingfears#steppingoutofhercomfortzone

Yesterday, our intrepid Year 11 team took on The Scots School from Albury in the Third Elimination Round.
We are very pleased to report that we came away with a win, 238 to 229 points.
It was a strong win for a team that is now gaining confidence and skills quite rapidly. So, we are now down to the top 8 schools in NSW and the ACT and will most likely find out our next opponent later today. The quarter final looms large and has to be done by mid-October.
They are performing with distinction and deserve recognition. #mocktrial#chevaliercollege

Next we have Denis—our external tournament director extraordinaire! .
“I was recruited to URMT by the most influential voice of our generation (grace gorant). I love mock trial bc it is a chance to develop and apply my public speaking skills and also it is a great community full of wonderful people !!”
Ms. Smith’s 7th grade English classes read the book Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer by John Grisham. The book is about 13 year old Theo Boone who knows the inside of the justice system and wants to find out if someone accused of murder is actually guilty. Students have been researching and writing biographies of the characters and character traits, and discussing plot and themes of the book. They have been learning legal vocabulary terms used and have written news articles based on what happens with the trial in the book. And today, they held their own mock trial with a jury, judge, bailiff, defense and prosecuting lawyers, witnesses, and a defendant based off book characters. The jury, had to decide the guilt or innocence of the defendant. It was a really cool way for students to completely dissect a book and make it come to life. #handsonlearning#mocktrial#theodoreboonekidlawyer#7thgradeenglish#studyingjohngrisham#homeatncs#jointhencsfamily
And our next eboard member is Meghan—our superbly talented secretary! .
. “I joined Mock Trial because I knew I wanted to become a lawyer, but I had never had any experience with law before, so I decided to join. I never realized how much I would grow to love it, and how much of an impact it would have on my life. I truly made life long friends with the people in this organization, and I’m going to miss them all so much when I graduate this year.”

Next up we have our AMAZINGLY beautiful and wonderful Vice President—Sydney Goldstein herself😍😭 .
“Sydney joined mock trial with no idea of what to expect. In the year that she’s gotten to be a part of it, mock trial has become such an important part of her life, so much in fact she became VP. For Sydney, she loves mock trial because of the people. It’s a community where people support, teach, and help each other become better, and all around pushes you to crawl out of your comfort zone. And of course, it’s a place where you can nerd out about your love for the justice system.”
Reminder: Today, the USF Mock Trial Team is holding our second informational session. We are meeting in SOC 258 from 6-8pm.
Come to learn more about our team, what we do, and what this year’s case is about!
If you can’t make it tonight but want to learn more about us, message us!
We hope to see you there!
Today we had an intense courtroom battle on the “Case for Homework vs. No Homework.” Over the last 3 weeks, we read and unpacked 4 non-fiction texts on the homework debate and 2 video interviews. Students were assigned the role of a witness or an attorney/prosecutor. They cross examined witnesses, objected to statements, and dug deep for evidence. A jury of their peers (5 students from the class next door) ultimately decided the fate! So. Much. Fun! ...I think we just upped applications for law school in a few years :-)
