“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning — that was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again.” - Bill Ford

Thanks to Google Lens I managed to find a match for the 'metal thingy' I found on Tuesday. Although initially I hoped it was much older (as a few other Instagramers pointed out it does resemble a type of ancient belt bucket), it is in fact the top piece of a pair of coil points from the ignition system of a Ford Model T!
Swipe for a photo of this iconic car.
The Model T was produced between 1908 and 1927. According to an article in The Irish Times, there was a large Ford Factory in Cork, where the Ford family hailed from, operating from 1917 to 1984. A worker there said local sentiment towards the factory was summed up thus: "Ford is a Cork company; it just has a very large American branch to it". The Model T was built there from 1923.
If this part is original and from the Cork factory, it presumably dates from 1923-1927.
It may not be ancient, but it might just be the most exciting car part I've ever found 😂 👍😃 Additional photos from Lang's old car parts & Brittanica.com
TBT to "Dizzy" my VW powered Model T. Damn fun little rig, kinda miss it. Traded a 52 Pontiac that I never drove for it. Had fun giving it my touch, was featured in Super VW and Volksworld Magazines and used one of our goats in the photo shoot! I can't for the life of me remember where it went after that, but I hope it's still out there somewhere making someone smile! #slowcowfeedshop#socalspeedshop#modelT#oldbug#mycarfilledlife#carchaeology
