How is it possible that this is the FIRST TIME I’ve noticed that the first letters of my kids’ names can be acronyms for two of my favorite things: SLP (for Speech-Language Pathologist), and PSL (for Pumpkin Spice Latte - and yes, I can admit that I’m basic with my drink selections).

Last week, I was talking about how it’s a priority for us that we teach our kids to give this holiday season (and ALWAYS, of course). We ESPECIALLY want to focus on it now, during this time when there’s so much talk about what they, as kids, are asking for and hoping to get on Christmas. 💝

I’m hoping to take the narrative in a bit of a different direction this Christmas. 💞
.
The change starts with shaping their hearts. All of our hearts (because we lead by example, right?). Focusing more on others instead of ourselves. Giving to others as we have been generously given to. We’re doing things a little differently this year, starting with giving projects, and even their gifts are even going to be different and I can’t wait to share more about it next week! 💗
.
Yesterday, we completed our first family giving project! 🎉
.
We have heard so many great things about Samaritan’s Purse, and they have a project called “Operation Christmas Child.” If you haven’t heard about it yet, it’s a project where you fill a shoebox with toys/crafts, hygiene products, and/or clothes and it will be sent internationally to a child in need. There are a couple of days left before collection week is over if you want to complete your own shoebox! 📦
.
The girls picked out the items to give (we went to the Dollar Store!), helped pack and wrap their boxes, and “wrote letters” to the kids who will receive their shoebox. ❤️
.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) 🎁
.
And guys, I’m not putting this out there to toot my own horn (or my family’s horn). Trust me when I say we’re are not doing everything perfectly, and even during the process of completing this project, there was some frustration, and wild behavior, and talk about how we can’t keep the things we’re picking out. 😬
.
But the seeds we’ve planted long before now are starting to grow. And I can’t wait to see what they become in the years to follow. 🌱

Третье - Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. Проще говоря парк, в котором просто статуи. Ничего такого. Абсолютно. Но когда туда приходишь, случается невероятное. Ты видишь это мощное сооружение, находящееся на территории парка, которое впечатляет своим величием. Парк сделан как-то слишком логично и не будет такого, что ты чего-то не увидишь. На прогулку по этому парку планируйте часа на два - три, точно не меньше. Кроме того, в стоимость билета включены разные плюшки, так что есть вероятность, что бОльшую часть дня вы проведете здесь. На территории парка есть парковка, несколько значимых локаций, ресторанчики, фонтаны и развлекаловки. Ну и как уже стало понятно, очень подробно я рассказала на сайте. Там куча фото и деталей с подробным описанием парка.
И ещё одно на десерт - Waterflow blow. Это достопримечательность, просто интересное место для посещения, которое сотворила сама природа. Подобие гейзера из разлома скалы и попадающей во внутрь волны океана. Но для того, чтобы увидеть его во всей красе, нужно идти туда в пик прилива, а иначе, можно ничего не увидеть. Собственно, как у меня и получилось. На сайте есть видео о реально крутых фишках этого места. Ну и мои фото, ахаха
Из того, что я бы отнесла к менее интересным местам, это шоу Balinese dance, Downtown Ubud и о том, как я побывала на кофейной фабрике на о. Бали.

We took a break from moving boxes and stuff to provide the family with dinner and show doing the #picnictablechallenge !!!! Totally worth the 15 minute moving delay for the laughs 🤣 don’t worry Meg recorded the whole thing containing all the failed attempts from her vantage point and we shared it on our stories (docked one highlights) so you can laugh too! We know Kim and Jamie are the ones in the family that are WAAAAY more skilled at this sort of thing and will do some super cool variation for us all to be astonished by! .

When was the last time you walked out of your comfort zone, friends?
I walked out of my comfort zone this week, as I attended my first-ever @blissdom conference.
It’s an AMAZING event by @barbarajones and @alliworthington and though I know a ton of people here, it’s still *new* to me. And a little bit scary.
But there are a boatload of Community Managers here like my pals @jennyonthespot and @lucrecer who are ‘opening the circle’ and welcoming us all in, making us feel comfortable and like we’re back home—even if this is our first time here.
Thank you, Blissdom, for welcoming this OG blogger who still gets nervous in new situations into the fold here in Nashville. I am already looking forward to my next one.

Several generations ago our home was called Highfields, which sounds incredibly romantic and sophisticated to me such that I briefly lobbied for reverting to that name. But the "fields," while still dappled throughout with tumbling stone walls, are now forested and, frankly, as much as I try we're not that refined, so the name of the last 50+ years seems more fitting. Plus, we inherited a bunch of cool pig stuff.

I’m really good at purging and organizing when I have to do it. But man, it’s so much easier just to keep it that way, isn’t it? Realistically, if I go through everything in their room once a month, it stays nice. But like so many things in life, easier said than done, right?
.
These guys don’t know this, but I will be completely redecorating their bedroom as part of their Christmas presents. It’s been western cowboy theme since before Malachi was born, and it’s just time to refresh their space. So I’m getting it ready little by little so that when it’s time to make the switch, it will be neat and tidy.
.
And, as always, I love words on the walls and in my decor. These will stay.

There’s a lot of talk about being grateful and thankful, yet the whole holiday to really celebrate being thankful is often overlooked. Not with me!!! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and it will not be skipped personally nor will I let the kids in class skip over it. We are heavily focusing on being grateful and thankful and what that actually means. Any talk of Santa and gifts is quickly shot down and we tell them “nooopeeee. Not yet. We have thanksgiving first!!” Come December we will talk about Christmas and more importantly the true meaning of Christmas... and news flash kids it’s not Santa. But here we are. I’m trying to be proactive with my online shopping and ordered some little gifts from the YL holiday catalog and I’m obsessed with what I got. Immediately following my unboxing I put everything back in the box and put it in a cabinet until it’s time to wrap and give in appreciation to some lovely people in my life. I’m not usually called on for post-1900 projects but this one was special and close to my heart. We caught this picture today during a late afternoon install. The house was built by the client’s grandparents in 1925 and all of the original furniture purchased new in the twenties is still there in the exact same place three generations later. Over the last two years we have restored every piece in this home and today was bitter sweet as I finished the last bedroom in the collection. Nostalgia. This is the other significant castle in my life. Haha what a ridiculous thing to say but true! We would pass this on the way to my grandparents as I kid and I would wave religiously to the fairy/ blinking light in the window. The other castle was opposite our house. A visit there is planned too. Some places hold all the best memories so enjoyed keeping some of them alive today. One of my favorite people came for a visit and we decided to run away to the mountains! After sleeping in, a long leisurely drive, 3 hikes (one met up with the Appalachian Trail) and a romantic sunset later, we’re back home to my home and ready to take it easy for a few days. Matching Halloween costumes seemed like an insurmountable task this year with the variety of (sensory and otherwise) needs from everyone in our fam. If you were on pins and needles wondering what I was going to be, the moment of the big reveal of my sea otter costume is in stories! Man, I just love sea otters. You guys. THEY HOLD HANDS WHILE THEY SLEEP. And having a costume I can wear pajamas under was a major win, as well. 🎉

(but curious what percentage of people know the above @lizzobeeating reference) and also just in general what percentage of people care to keep seeing this stuff. I kind of hit a post-disney creative rut and was doubting myself, my need to document our every move, my ability to create or relate, my motivation in this space. right now there is a lot to handle at school, there is a lot of the girls fighting at home, and I’m just kind of tired.

then one of my wise former students posted the most perfect and timely quote from one my favorite childhood authors (swipe) about being a life enthusiast. never lukewarm. and it hit me because it’s so what I try to be at school (100% obsessed: all in with them & with calculus, over the top obnoxious) but it’s also true in this space. it’s the reminder I needed that it’s okay to go all in. and honestly I think in these tougher phases it’s even more important for me to create a little silly magic at home, or for me to try to find a little good in each day, or just cathartically journal my thoughts. I mean again, it’s like, “I just took a DNA test, I’m 100% that (w)itch.” anyone?!
