Maputo, Mozambique 🇲🇿 Maputo’s landmark train station is one of the city’s most imposing buildings. The dome was designed by an associate of Alexandre Gustav Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame), although Eiffel himself never set foot in Mozambique. Also impressive are the wrought-iron latticework, pillars and verandas gracing the dark-green exterior. Inside is the Kulungwana Espaço Artístico, with a small exhibition of works by local.
In 2009, the American magazine Newsweek ranked the station #7 on a list of "Train stations as grand as the journey", and described it as "probably" the most beautiful terminus in Africa. In 2011, the American travel magazine Travel + Leisure included it in a list of the world's 14 most beautiful railway stations. In 2016, the station was included on a list of nine beautiful train stations published by The Financial Express, an Indian business newspaper.
Here you can find the first “ First Class “ train in the world.
With its Mediterranean-style architecture, waterside setting and wide avenues lined with jacaranda and flame trees, Maputo is easily one of Africa's most attractive capitals. It's also the most developed place in Mozambique, with a wide selection of hotels and restaurants, well-stocked supermarkets, shady sidewalk cafes and a lively cultural scene.
Maputo is pricier than elsewhere in the country. Yet prices are reasonable and there's enough selection to make it a good destination no matter what your budget. Getting to know the city is a highlight of visiting Mozambique and essential to understanding the country. Don't miss spending time here before heading north.

My visit to #Mozambique ended on a high note, meeting with newly re-elected President Nyusi and an interview by Rochete Libombo at TVM studios. 🇨🇦 looks forward to continuing to strengthen its partnerships with Mozambique - and I hope to return one day!
After 3 trains 🚆, a 12 hour flight ✈️, a 18 hour minibus transfer 🚐 and 2 VISAs 🛂 I finally safely arrived at Tofo, Mozambique 🇲🇿. I'll be spending the next 2 and a half months here with @tofoscuba completing my PADI Rescue Diver and then completing their PADI Divemaster internship 🧜. I absolutely cannot wait to get stuck in but tomorrow will be spent getting to know the team, settling in and getting my whereabouts 😁 .
God wants us to step towards the obstacle rather than away from it. That is the step that allows insane things to occur. Stand and declare what God has placed on your heart; your act of faith will be the reason giants fall. 😛
